What I remember from 1975

since i am sort of late to the party this has probably been beaten to death and if it has just kick this thread to the curb.

i was 11 years old in 1975 and i remember being scared silly the whole year.

i mean there was so much hype about it and the tension in the air was so thick it was unreal.

We didn't have many in the congregation who quickly became angry at the failed prophecy.

But there were quite a few who gradually faded from the scene and left the org.

One thing that surprised me, is the volatile anger that some elders directed at those who were disapointed and spoke of their feelings.

Funny though, one or two of those elders later were df'd for apostasy.

It did create a lot of confusion and doubt, even in those who did not leave .

The prediction of armageddon did take place.

The wbts caused it.

Anyone who says they did not, either does not know what they claim is false or they are blindly defending an organization that they deserve to be in.

Hi David.

I was in my early 40's in 1975.

I recall the theo. ministery proclaiming how wonderful it was to see some jw's selling all they had and getting a trailer and the whole family went where the need was greater since "1975 the end of 7000 yrs." when Jesus would take up rule, was so near.

There were many many subtle articles that led many to believe that 1975 was when armageddon would come.

The co's would have tapes of speaches given at conventions that almost came right out and said 1975 and armageddon were linked.

It was the subject of conversation incessantly for months AND THE WBTS DID NOTHING TO PUT A STOP TO IT.

There is a forum called QUOTES where you can find all the documentation on this and most other subjects.

I am not computer savy enough to be able to post that url here.

How about one of you hi tech guys helping this member find that url so he can look this up? Ok.

FOR A LONG TIME, I don't recall when they stopped, but the Watchtower had a pyramid with the all seeing eye "what you also see on US currancy" over the pyramid.

Sounds a little MASONRY like doesn't it? That winged sun disc is also used by the Chrysler auto manufacturer. Check out what Mazda stands for.

i smoked for a week when i was 15, i quit when i started studying.

my "smoking" then was only a few cigarettes, i was by no means addicted.

Not to change the topic, BUT you mentioned something I often wonder about. "we are computers"

I have often wondered as I ponder this God-creation-thing.

Might we be a biological product "computer" manufactured to be self replicating and serving some unseen unknown race of entities.

This thought ever cross your mind?

Every ones body/brain/mind/emotions and "reactions" are different. Even if they may be slightly so.

Some one like you has the ability to control their actions but not always the reactions of the brain/mind and body to stimulants or depressants.

With the established rules you have given your self, I see no reason to feel guilt or worry about what others may think. I doubt the small amount of smoking you do will harm you.

Since our dna determines what kind of lungs/heart we have and their tolerance to smoking, it is kind of a toss up.

Nice to see you posting here and free from the borg.

I have never smoked. Mostly to my mothers forbiding it as a youngster and them the wbts forbiding it.

Got df'd and still did not smoke as I felt it was a hazard to my health.

Then I was given a cigar by a friend as we were having a beer and lots of fun in the group.

Then I felt it was kinda like pissing on the jw's and their religion when I smoked a cigar and those who shunned me could see it. I got a real kick out of it.

This lasted about 3 yrs. then I began to think of the health hazards and my age at the time, 66.

So I haven't smoked for a year now and may only smoke a cigar "if someone gives me one" a few times a year.

I think pissing on the jw's might be one of the motivators we ex's use.
