I remember back in the 90s when they changed the policy on shunning those who weren't baptized. It used to be that unbaptized "approved associates" were to be shunned once they became unapproved. This meant a lot of teenagers who engaged in "teenage behavior" whose parents were baptized were shunned. When the change in policy happened, people were were shunned for years were suddenly spoken to. Very strange indeed. I can imagine that happening again but I wouldn't expect it to unless legal pressures made them change their behavior. I choose my friends carefully but I would not be rude if someone who didn't speak to me decided to start talking to me again. I might just speak back and say something eye-opening.

I really have no desire to get involved in Christmas as a born in and I never celebrated it and never missed it. I guess for me Halloween is for kids and if they come I give out candy but don't get much more involved in that. I do enjoy my birthday since that is my own holiday.

Do You Ever Look Back? Should We?
by Joe Grundy ini'm a bit unusual here, never was a jw, don't suffer from the ex- or leaving jw stuff, but i surely can sympathise with those who do.. .
tomorrow ( 2 august) my divorce decree absolute is issued, disolving the marriage with my filipina princess.
i'm not sad about that, per se, it will be good to get the whole sorry episode over and done with.

Evreyone who doesn't look back and reflect is doomed to future failure. Your tale makes me want to ask so many questions as to the what and the why but I hope in the future you can find a new princess if you so desire.

We are not benefited by trying to refute the arguments of apostates or those who are critical of Jehovah’s organization
I love that line. It says it all. "We" refers to the Governing Body and they are not benefited by trying to refute arguments because they cannot. It becomes obvious by their own words that they are liars and frauds so they can't prove to the contrary because the arguments and criticism is valid.
If every one of the rank and file said "I am not benefited by trying to refute argumetns or criticism" then there would be no need for any more judicial meetings. If people didn't want to confess they should be given the benefit of the doubt just as the "mother organization" is given that same latitude.

Is it possible to find out if someone has been disfellowshipped?
by svitapeneela ini recently saw on the website for my local newspaper, an article about a guy who has recently been convicted of burglary and theft - is there a way to find out if he's been disfellowshipped?.
-
wisdomfrombelow
The best way to find out if someone is disfellowshipped is to ask them yourself. The congregation he was last associated with might have his publisher's card or if he moved a lot it might have gotten lost in the cracks.

My kids know I am disfellowshipped, they were there when it happened. They don't go anymore and I couldn't be happier.

Can You See How Idiotic The JW Religion Now Is?
by minimus ini was telling my gf about my mom's removal as a regular pioneer when she was about 80 years old because she went to my daughter's wedding (and she married a non-jw).. my girlfriend couldn't grasp the severity of my mother's sin and as i explained the witnesses' position, it all sounded so absurd!.
have you experienced anything similar?.

When people can't decide for themselves what to do in a certain situation but have to consult publications or write "the Society" then it is very ridiculous. Can you imagine asking if you can eat Turkey on the 4th Thursday in November?
