I went to a college and lived on campus and met other JWs there. We had our own clique and were mostly very vocal in favor of higher education. The locals in the hall we attended could do nothing because they didn't know us as children and we just popped up as 18 years olds moving into their congregation. Either they embrace you or they shun you but because you live on campus they have no access to you unless you want them to. For those who were local I believe it was a positive influence because many of them went to college (but didn't announce it). We had nothing to hide because the only reason we were at the congregation was because we were going to college.

Those who went to University whilst being a JW
by MMXIV ini've read a number of posts in the brief couple of years i've been on jwn of those that were brave enough to go to university whilst being a jw.. clearly this is a small fraction of those that wanted to go but couldn't or had the grades to go but accepted pioneering instead.. for those that did go to uni despite all the advice and pressure, why did you go?
what was the response when you broke the news?
how did it affect your relationships?

Commitee and disfellowshipment
by Freeof1914 ini have only posted on here several times, but i am constantly reading what others post.
i guess i am more of a reader than author.
that being said i am happy to announce i am no longer one of the jehovah's witnesses.

My first thoughts are "how is your marriage affected?" Will you stay married? Do you have children because they will be affected by this also. I hope you can ceal with your wife and family on a personal level, regardless of how the congregation will treat you.

Governing Body Hates Higher Education Because It Destroys Their Delusion
by frankiespeakin inin an effort to keep their delusion alive it is only natural for them hate something that lifts the vails of their delusion and lay it barren.
their hate is transfered to the faithful rank and file and manifested in their forbidding it to the young who will surely see the ignorance of their delusion.
narcissistic delusions of divine appointment are resisted at the expense of the young.. they hate higher education to the same extent they hate psychiatry because both tread on their delusion and identify it in clear terms..

I used to think the anti-college rhetoric began with Knorr and Franz because one didn't go and the other didn't complete. Is there any indication that the Da Judge was anti-university? I also believe those at the top don't like to know those beneath them are smarter than they are.

Well an old friend found me. Now I'm in her cross hairs to get active again.

on one hand i'm glad she's ok. rather sickly.
but once she got word i've been inactive, she's all hot and bothered to get me back to meetings.. "did you attend the memorial this year?".

If she's really a friend she'll keep in touch because she cares about you but she'll learn that your made a choice and come to respect that.

Does anyone know which day of the week the memorial was held those years? I have a feeling that might make a difference in attendance.

A very well educated brother once held up the Weekly World News and said "it's all true". He said it in relation to how we call our literature "Truth". I now understand how he had to think that way in order to survive in this religion.

Elders Call Off Meetings A Lot More Easily Than They Did Before For Inclement Weather
by minimus inthe meetings were cancelled in this area with only 2 inches of snow for the "storm''.
lol.
a month ago the co had the meeting cancelled because it was a bit tracherous, which i thought was a good call..... years`ago, if we cancelled a meeting it took until one hour before the presiding overseer would finally decide to cancel.. today's jws are wimps..

I personally like it when they call off meetings. The more notice that is given the better it is for all involved.

Does anyone know the name of the officer that was released and not sent to jail? Is the list of the 7 others readily available?

What group within the Witnesses has the highest drop out rate?
by Ultimate Axiom inif you could categorise jehovahs witnesses into their various groups, i.e.
publisher, auxiliary pioneer, regular pioneer, special pioneer, missionary, co, do, bethel worker, born-ins, etc etc, (and you can subdivide into as many groups as you wish) what group do you think has the highest drop out rate?
i remember an ex ny bethellite saying that bethel cured him of the watchtower, and after reading the thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/160509/1/warren-schroeder-from-bethel-on-freddy-kline-and-the-apostate-books my guess is that it would be ny bethellites, but i am interested to know if there is a consensus on this, or on any other group, or no group at all..

I guess it depends on what you've invested and how painful the exit will be. Once people get promince and are in special full-time service, they really are financially bound. They lose the prestige and have to fend for themselves in the real-world where they are ill-equipped and might not have any non-witness friends or family. CO and DO might be the least likely to leave because they often don't have any real roots as they are constantly moved around.

What if you simply IGNORED being disfellowshipped and continued as before?
by Terry ini know this is an odd idea.
maybe it is even silly.. but, i do daydream..... .
what if you were informed that you are disfellowshipped and you flashed a huge smile and said, "nah.".

Terry,
Your specific case is much different then the scenario that you mentioned initially. They no longer state publicly the reason why someone is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses so the rank and file are left to wonder. On another note, "innocence" is relative. Not related to your case but people can be kicked for smoking when under duress, for having a child through artificial insemination, for making personal decisions about medical treatment and for not blabing about a sin someone else did that they were aware of. Since no one knows the reason WHY, people don't have enough information to decide anything for themselves about how they feel about the case. When you hit them "in the pocket book" it has a lasting affect on those who did the injury.
