i think that even jw-lites have a grasp of the basic teaching that all humans have inherited sin from adam and eve, and hence all humans die.

jesus was a perfect human, and through his death......(from the wt website):.

God created man in his image...uh, well kinda.

Man turned out less then expected...a big dissapointment.

God decided these are no good, got to get rid of man. Back to the drawing board.

Jesus said NO WAIT DAD! Can I have 'em?

God said, well ok son but, its gonna cost ya. How bad do you want em?

In a nut shell, Jesus bought us from his father then mapped out a plan to bring some of us back to perfection over the next several thousand years and live happily ever after.

Maybe God sold us to his son then went on to try it again elsewhere, there's another planet somewhere with actual perfect humans living in a paradise. Watching us f%%kups.

being raised a jw, imho, is basically being raised with more demon influence then anything else.

i do not mean this in the sense that it might be taken.

what it did for me, the up bringing that is, is put the idea in my head that everywhere i went i had to be very careful of satans influence.

Both my parents became JWs and are both very set in thier ways about demons. I was born in it and began questioning the reasoning of the WTS and that subject by the time I was a teen. The same goes for my brother.

Even so, the baptism (immersion by water) which you are speaking of is not found in the Mosaic law.

I have discussed this with my mother in the past, wanting her personal thoughts on the subject since she has partaken since before I was born, and got the same answer. The "real" baptisim is not with water but with holy spirit. One does not need to be baptized in water. That practice is only for sightseeres.

I've heard stories of people needing to be baptized twice! LOL! The first time didn't take due to an elbow sticking out of the water. hahaha.

I have been that depressed before but I can't say I never went through with it because of my up bringing as a JW. Not sure really. I think the only real reason for not going through with it was my children. If I didn't have them I might have gone off the deep end enough to go through with it. But I'll never really know for sure.

(It sounds stupid even if you take into account that Satan does stuff that sounds stupid just so that you wont believe in him)

I think you're correct about that. It does make a difference. My father ( an elder) having been in the religion for almost 50 years was and is just as bad as my mother when it comes to the daemon thing. I don't think gender makes a difference but the length of time associated with the religion does. As I recall most of this stuff was and still is taught via the "society"

I can’t think of another religion that is so preoccupied with Satan other then perhaps the Catholic religion and I think JWs have surpassed them.

With regard to black cats etc., even those superstitions were of demonic influence. That way of thinking was only another form of Satan tricking us into believing in the supernatural.

Christmas was demonic

Easter was demonic

Most music was demonic

TV shows were demonic (Bewitched, smurfs etc.

There was no escaping demonic influence everywhere.

My question to those who are no longer affiliated with JWs is, do you still believe in demons?

What about ghosts? Has anyone converted to ghosts instead of demons?

Do these teachings still have an impact on your perspective? plum

On the surface it sounds like a good way to get lots of attention but, I can’t help thinking that most would see this as a very disrespectful way of getting attention and it would backfire. JMHO.

would the passage from new world translation be a miss print....because in the holy bible the word is god......so if god is not capitalized..then what god is the book referring to...because there is only one father and one living god witch is jesus...... .

In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.

Over the years I’ve had this explained a few different ways. The last explanation of this scripture and a reason for using thecapitol was explained as:

In [the] beginning the Word was , (as in the first creation that being Jesus)

and the Word was with God,(Jesus was with God from the beginning)

and the Word was a god. as in Jesus is “a” god but not “THE God” The big guy the only one that rates a capitol G.

I’ve heard this one as well:

In clause 3, however, evidently because of the absence of the definite article, [THE] they argue that the word "God" undergoes a shift in meaning, making it mean "A mighty one" So, in effect, the WTS says that Jo is saying: "The Word was with God, and the Word was a mighty one"
