that the wt "self insures" kingdom halls has come up in occasional conversations on here.
how exactly does that work?
do they* actually set aside a portion of the monthly remittance from each kingdom hall and save into a pool to cover damage etc.

Do they* actually set aside a portion of the monthly remittance from each Kingdom Hall and save into a pool to cover damage etc. issues that arise? If a Kingdom Hall burns down, does that pool get tapped, or is the congregation expected to raise their own funds to rebuild?
On public liability, I can't imagine a JW suing "the brothers", so I imagine any of those situations are gotten away with Scot free**.
It all looks a bit iffy to me, hence why I'm posting this in scandals and cover-ups.
* Presumably some department within Bethel.
** But what if an outsider, say a memorial attendee or bible study, decades to sue over an injury obtained on Kingdom Hall premises?
apparently there has been quite a stir in jw apologetic circles recently about the translation of john 1:1 in the early sahidic version of john.
i don't know if this has been discussed here before - if someone could give a link to a previous thread they know about on the subject that would be great.
here is what i gather: .
"...Coptic Christians were never Arians, unlike, for example, the Visigoths or the Vandals."
It used to amuse me that the JWs chose to identify themselves with groups remembered for their violent and warlike tendencies. Perhaps I've grown up a little? 🤔 Heck, no! It still amuses me! 😸
holy nativity batman!
on jw broadcasting.
final song for this year's convention.
BTW, I'm not calling it a Christmas Song, but a Christmas Carol. It's just more fun that way.
memory from long ago: my old mate from high school lived next door to a jw and was often "treated" to the latest jw literature.
when the "you can live forever in paradise on earth"* book came out, this neighbour waxed lyrical about how good this book was and how powerful the message was.
he acted really keen about it, like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Diogenesister, you're right about mainstream churches at least being more noticeable in the community. In the town where I live there are a bunch of old churches with pipe organs. Last year they organised an "organ crawl", an afternoon where each church would be open at a certain time and an organist or two would play a piece or two on the organ before moving on to the next church, the audience moving on with them. I was too crook (sick) that year to attend, unfortunately.
Recently one of the churches allowed the organist to play a piece she had been learning, Bach's Passacaglia, at the end of the service. It was very moving. 😢
I can't see the WT opening up to outsiders in similar ways. "Brother Jones Solos the Latest WT Christmas Carol*" probably doesn't have much pulling power, and besides, the WT probably doesn't have the insurance to cover such events.

the september 2015 broadcast had david splane explain matthew 24:34 “truly, i say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place”.
his explanation of this scripture was by means of a chart to indicate an overlapping generation.. .
no scripture was used to show the overlapping generation concept, and as a result it makes no sense.. to illustrate how crazy this concept is, look at the lyrics of the song my generation.. my generation.
Like all things related to the WT doctrines regarding the 144,000, "the annointed" and the FDS, I'm confused about this "overlapping generation" thing. How does it work? Does it mean that someone who worked in close proximity with someone at Bethel who had been baptised before 1935 could have the annointing passed on to them? If the annointing can skip forward once and the new annointee is genuinely annointed, what's to stop it skipping forward in every subsequent generation?
I suppose it's shorthand for the GB saying that every GB member is annointed because we say so. Diogenesister alludes to something like that above. As she said, eventually only the GB will be the 144,000, the FDS and "the annointed". Will they stop people being allowed to partake at the memorial, eventually? Will the memorial become an annual event wherein the JW congregations of the world get to watch a livestream of the GB partaking?
i get a few good laughs from the ex-jw facebook site: " ex jw humor will set you free".. i was laughing over dinner with 3rd gen over this post tonight: "question for the audience: i was driving around today and it hit me...there are big falsehoods (armageddon etc.
) that we were told, but also ridiculous falsehoods.
what is your favorite ridiculous falsehoods?
Diogenesister, you reminded me of a conversation at the door many years ago. The JW talking about the Pair-a-dice Erf quoted Isaiah 65:20 "For anyone who dies at a hundred will be considered a mere boy".
Me: People will still die in the future paradise?
JW: Oh, yes!
Me: What??

spread the word (ha).
So, they habitually lie about the financial situation to get more donations? That doctrine they have: the one where they don't need to tell the truth to those who don't deserve it. Does this mean that they classify the faithful R&F as being among those who don't deserve the truth?
It's been speculated on other threads that the leadership are just laughing at the plebs. It's sad that the R&F place such trust in such untrustworthy leadership.
i’ve been invited to the dedication at chelmsford.. it’s crazy here, several thousand ex bethelites here for lots of events.
all hotels booked.
big marquee.
St George of England, it's not the only time they've played fast and loose with respect to nations other than the USA. I recall something about Greece not recognising the name Macedonia for the former Yugoslavian country. Not sure of the details (it was probably the 90s) but the WT placated the Greek government by changing references to Macedonia on the back of WT literature, but continued to refer to Macedonian editions of literature on the back of literature for other countries, hoping that the Greek government wouldn't notice. (It was some time ago, so I'm sketchy on the details. I do remember some exJWs suggesting that the Greek government be contacted to inform them of this example of the WT talking out of both sides of its mouth. It may be roughly contemporary with the Bulgaria/blood/sanction scandal.)

Do modern JWs still feign a similar level of enthusiasm about new publications?**
* Rolls off the tongue, doesn't it!
** I wonder how much the new publications differ doctrinally from the one mentioned above.
