Is a CSA suit "an accident"? ๐๐ฑ
"...lawsuits brought by persons upset over judicial actions" Was this common? Was it ever successful?
that the wt "self insures" kingdom halls has come up in occasional conversations on here.
how exactly does that work?
do they* actually set aside a portion of the monthly remittance from each kingdom hall and save into a pool to cover damage etc.

blood transfusion history.
1665 the first recorded successful blood transfusion occurs in england: physician richard lower keeps dogs alive by transfusion of blood from other dogs.. 1818 james blundell performs the first successful blood transfusion of human blood to treat postpartum hemorrhage.. 1840 the first whole blood transfusion to treat hemophilia is successfully completed.. 1900 karl landsteiner discovers the first three human blood groups, a, b and o.. 1902 landsteinerโs colleagues, alfred decastello and adriano sturli, add a fourth blood type, ab.. 1907 blood typing and cross matching between donors and patients is attempted to improve the safety of transfusions.
the universality of the o blood group is identified.. 1914 adolf hustin discovers that sodium citrate can anticoagulate blood for transfusion, allowing it to be stored and later transfused safely to patients on the battlefield.. 1932 the first blood bank is established at leningrad hospital.. 1939-1940 the rh blood group is discovered and recognized as the cause behind most transfusion reactions.. 1940 the us government establishes a nationwide blood collection program.. so from the beginning of the watchtower being printed in 1879, they were ok with blood transfusions until 1945. what caused this?
I've had JWs tell me that transfusions didn't happen up until the time the WT banned them. IOW, the technology was banned the year it became a thing. I pointed out that it had been available at least since before WWI. And that the ban hadn't started until 1945*.
*Conveniently, after Rutherford's death.
uh oh, looks like the mega thread gave up the ghost, so while i investigate / fix it just continue the discussion here .... it's been a long 9 years lloyd evans / john cedars.
What is inexcusable is to know that and be making promises that you'll bring it about, if people donate money to you.
Isn't that somewhat what the WT does?
the september 2015 broadcast had david splane explain matthew 24:34 โtruly, i say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take placeโ.
his explanation of this scripture was by means of a chart to indicate an overlapping generation.. .
no scripture was used to show the overlapping generation concept, and as a result it makes no sense.. to illustrate how crazy this concept is, look at the lyrics of the song my generation.. my generation.
My Generation by The Who:
People try to put us d-down (talkin' 'bout my generation)
Just because we get around (talkin' 'bout my generation)
Things they do look awful c-c-cold (talkin' 'bout my generation)
I hope I die before I get old* (talkin' 'bout my generation)
*Apparently a hope within some JW circles ๐ณ Mentioned in this thread: https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/6028430898888704/jw-murders-wife-mother-law

Interestingly, I discovered this bloke just this week . I couldn't directly search for Donald Burney and YORWW directly through this site's search function; it always spat out an error message. (I wonder if that's deliberate, to stop Burney disciples being able to find threads about him and spam them.*) Searching the internet, I found that one exJW despises Burney so much that he wont use his real surname, but "Brumley" instead. I tried using that surname, and Lo and behold: I discovered page after page about the wonderful** Philip Brumley.
What a piece of work! Good to see that his tireless efforts to muddy the waters of CSA cases involving the WT are finally being recognised and rewarded by the secular state! ๐ธ๐๐
* Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules of this discussion board by mentioning this ๐ค๐ Please remove this post if it is.
** This is strictly sarcasm. The only wonderful, or more correctly, wondrous about him is his longevity.

2027: the end isn't imminent? At least, not for another three years. ๐

That the WT "self insures" Kingdom Halls has come up in occasional conversations on here. How exactly does that work? Do they* actually set aside a portion of the monthly remittance from each Kingdom Hall and save into a pool to cover damage etc. issues that arise? If a Kingdom Hall burns down, does that pool get tapped, or is the congregation expected to raise their own funds to rebuild?
On public liability, I can't imagine a JW suing "the brothers", so I imagine any of those situations are gotten away with Scot free**.
It all looks a bit iffy to me, hence why I'm posting this in scandals and cover-ups.
* Presumably some department within Bethel.
** But what if an outsider, say a memorial attendee or bible study, decades to sue over an injury obtained on Kingdom Hall premises?
apparently there has been quite a stir in jw apologetic circles recently about the translation of john 1:1 in the early sahidic version of john.
i don't know if this has been discussed here before - if someone could give a link to a previous thread they know about on the subject that would be great.
here is what i gather: .
"...Coptic Christians were never Arians, unlike, for example, the Visigoths or the Vandals."
It used to amuse me that the JWs chose to identify themselves with groups remembered for their violent and warlike tendencies. Perhaps I've grown up a little? ๐ค Heck, no! It still amuses me! ๐ธ
holy nativity batman!
on jw broadcasting.
final song for this year's convention.
BTW, I'm not calling it a Christmas Song, but a Christmas Carol. It's just more fun that way.
memory from long ago: my old mate from high school lived next door to a jw and was often "treated" to the latest jw literature.
when the "you can live forever in paradise on earth"* book came out, this neighbour waxed lyrical about how good this book was and how powerful the message was.
he acted really keen about it, like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Diogenesister, you're right about mainstream churches at least being more noticeable in the community. In the town where I live there are a bunch of old churches with pipe organs. Last year they organised an "organ crawl", an afternoon where each church would be open at a certain time and an organist or two would play a piece or two on the organ before moving on to the next church, the audience moving on with them. I was too crook (sick) that year to attend, unfortunately.
Recently one of the churches allowed the organist to play a piece she had been learning, Bach's Passacaglia, at the end of the service. It was very moving. ๐ข
I can't see the WT opening up to outsiders in similar ways. "Brother Jones Solos the Latest WT Christmas Carol*" probably doesn't have much pulling power, and besides, the WT probably doesn't have the insurance to cover such events.
