To those that think the pressure being put on the government is the work of the liberal media, the New York Times, the Internet, etc....erm, Shut Up! You're not fooling me on this one, this was the fault of state and federal government at the very highest levels and somebody has to pay for it, it's called "The Tough Shit Rule" and its one of the primary obligations of our govenment: if they fuck up, they have to investigate it. The same administration that was ultimately hesitant to meet with a 9-11 commission better accept a full fledged investigation on this one. If we had the time and resources to find out if Country Bill Clinton got a blow job or not, then I think we should do the honorable thing and give an answer to all the people who have lost their families. The issue isn't republicans and democrats...it's authority...or in this case, the lack thereof. And say what you will about John Kerry....the guy wouldn't of overstayed any vacation (by three days) in reacting this badly to a hurricane.

when i was a faithful dub, the biggest, nagging doubt i had was the belief that a book... writing thousands, upon thousands of years ago....largely written in the middle east....was written with a couple of jehovah's witnesses in mind.

it never ceased to amaze me the number of elders that told me that "the bible was really written for the annointed...remember, everyone else just benefits from its non-heavenly related discussion..but only a god fearing, going to heaven annointed dub could truly understand it...in that special way.

the whole thing reminds me of that carly simon song, "you're so vain", you'd have to be really vain....or insane even... to think that a book that ancient was written with a couple of guys in brooklyn in mind, a city that didn't even exist at the time the last book of the bible was written.

If some guy went around saying that Theodore Dreiser's "Sister Carrie" was written for them, they'd be written off as one insane mofo, but we're talking about the Bible here... the #1 selling book of all time. Isn't it odd that the dubs in general haven't stopped and said, well... maybe these guys really are crazy... even that's a less controversial way of approaching it than saying well, the governing body is a bunch of dishonest evildoers... I'm still open to the organization being run by the insane... of the some of the most vain people in our lifetimes.

Just watching TV and it got to me....

there is a tv programme on at the moment on itv and it just got to me.

i was surprised but perhaps i shouldn't be.. it was about kids here getting their 16 yr qualifications...they're gcse's for those who are not in the uk.

anyway, it showed a girl getting the same results as me, pretty much a's for all exams, and her family listening to her results and celebrating them.

I don't think she meant it like that... honestly. I'm not too crazy about their politics, but its like when someone in congress got slammed for saying that it's questionable to rebuild New Orleans or not, my perception was he was questioning the way it looked previously without taking into consideration the dangers associated with the city's structure which was a major factor in all the damage. I've heard just as much finger-pointing as I've heard analysis about the destruction itself. Over time people will really see where there was compassion, and where there wasn't. Winston Chruchill once said that "The responsibility of government for the public safety is absolute and requires no mandate. It is in fact, the prime object for which governments come into existence." If this is true, then I don't think there will be any shortage of ire for the people in charge anytime soon...

What's the big deal about a Circuit Overseer visit?

according to the son of my newly baptised jw friends, they re-decorating their house for a visit and 'inspection' by the circuit overseer.

can anyone explain what the circuit overseer's visit is all about?

does he or she normally visit the homes of people in the congregation?

The circuit overseer's visit, allows every single faithul witness of Jehovah to "role-play" that they attend every meeting, faithfully adjust their schedules to knock on doors several times a week, and display a greater degree of kiss-assity. It represent the "ideal" that the JW's are told to be. In other words, its how you act at work after the boss has come back from a 6 month vacation.

Looking forward to the resurrection of your 'loved ones'?

the witnesses cite this as one of the greatest attractions of their faith...who does not want to see the ressurection of their loved ones?

but wait a minute....surely the closest relationship...between 'loved ones' is man and wife?

and reading the wt literature, they are pretty careful not to mention that relationship in the resurrection discussion, because of course they cant answer the question as to whether husbands and wives will be reunited in the resurrection...because of that damn scripture which says about resurrected ones not marrying or being given in marriage.. so, they wrap it up in the broad terminology of bring able to be 'reunited with your loved ones' and hope nobody notices that they never refer to the marital relationship.
