How will the owners of J Dubs Coffee, a
new downtown coffee shop, set themselves
apart from the dozens of other coffee shops
on the city’s main drag? The neon orange and
green interior might help, according to the
new owner.
“It’s going to be hard for people to miss
us,” said Jim Whitney, who owns the shop
with his wife, Felicia.
Whitney recently quit his 15-year job with
a wireless company in Massachusetts to open
up the coffee shop and launch his “second
career.”“Coffee is a multi-billion dollar market,”
Whitney said. “People have to get their coffee
every morning.”
Business people downtown have had
no shortage of options for their lattés, with
Dunkin’ Donuts, Gala Café, Ahhsome Coffee
and the Bridge Café – to name just a few
– all less than a block away from Whitney’s
soon-to-open store.
He’s banking on the hundreds of office
workers in the Brady Sullivan Tower and
patrons of the post office within the plaza
as built-in customers – especially when the
weather gets too cold for people to venture
very far from a heated office building.
“They might not want to walk across the
street,” Whitney said. “And there’s a 400-car
parking garage right behind me.”
He’s contracted with A&E Coffee Roastery
in Amherst, which roasts
fair trade beans, which Whitney
will use to create signature
blends. His goal is to have
each customer make a $4 sale,
he said.
The entrepreneur said he’s
also privy to the building
owner’s plans to renovate the
square, which is flanked by
Whitney’s restaurant, Subway,
Thousand Crane restaurant and
a formal wear shop.
“If I get in now, who knows
how much more vibrant it’s going
to be around here,” Whitney
said. “We want to be part
of Manchester’s rebirth.”
The roughly 500 square foot
coffee shop is still in pieces,
as Whitney and his carpenter
need to assemble the counters
and install the coffee machines.
The store will offer a variety
of specialty coffee drinks and
foods, from espresso to pastries,
some of which will come from his family
kitchen in Hudson.
“My wife, who happens to be an excellent
baker, will be making some of it in her spare
time,” Whitney said.
While Jim Whitney will be at the shop fulltime,
Felicia has a full-time job with another
company, he said.
The couple has three daughters, one who
lives a block from the store and attends the
University of New Hampshire’s Manchester
campus.
“She’s my built-in spy,” Whitney said.
“The student demographic is really what
we’re trying to get into.”
Along with his daughter, who will be manning
the coffee counter part-time, the Whitneys
plan to hire one or two other part-time
baristas.
“We want to get involved with the whole
culture of coffee,” Whitney said. “The way
you present it and how it tastes to the beans
you grow – there’s a lot that goes in to it.” ?7?????? My guess...not the "Amazing" Jim Whitney we know from JWN -

The service overseer (50's)and a cute young pioneer sister (20's) in our congo near WT Farms in NY got caught doing the nasty in his car while parked at a rest area in a relatively secluded park.
Apparently, he was teaching her the fine art of field "service" and return visits.
Big scandal...as they were caught by his own daughter (30's)...who just happenned coincidentally (or so the story goes) to be visitng the park with her husband and a friend that day ...they noticed the car and went to see if her dad was "around"...he was...and so was the "pioneer"...doing the "lecture" in the rear seat...
She got pregnant and bounced...he got dethroned and bounced...daughter got a medal for telling the elders about hed dad's "pioneer escapades"
Needless to say ...this was great fodder for the gossip circuit there but because it was so close to the Farm...the biggies told everyone to cool the discussion and embellishments...so the gossip went underground and the embellishments went into overdrive...
Could never figure what this young and relatively hot sister saw in this pompous jackass...maybe she kept her eyes closed the whole time while she was being "taught"...

In my congo (Mass, USA), 99 out of 100 could get lost and no one would care...much less search for them...and the elders are to be shepards of God's flock bought thru the value of the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ??? Not in my neck of the woods...it's all show and tell...superficial love at best...no one cares or takes much interest in anyone...far cry from just 10 years ago.

According to an Obama follower, it is anticipated that he will " allow me not to worry about paying my mortgage and will put gas in my car"...interesting take...for any who have some money...better hide your wallet...on the other hand, with Obama as president and Pelosi and Reid heading a democratic Congress, we will all get a first hand view of what a "tax and spend government is like" (in case we forgot)...after just 4 years the deficit could increase 50% (net of the reduced involvement in Iraq) and government at all levels continue to get larger. Increased taxes will be necessary to fund it (or greatly reduced spending which is not likely)
Obama is inheriting a gigantic issue re the finincial situation alone...the "credit crunch" is being resolved...but the country is in recesion and everything bad relating to business contraction will happen on his shift...one good point...it should have turned within 2-3 years just in time for him to run again with a more prosperous economy as a tail wind.
just my take...

Reassignment of Bethelites having negative impact on NYC congregations
by truthseeker ini was talking to a friend of mine recently who had some knowledge of the current situation with bethelites being let go.. he said that this is having a negative impact on some congregations in new york city because these bethelites are also serving as elders in their congregations.. when a bethel elder is reassigned, the congregation loses out on the leadership, and in some cases there are not enough brothers taking the lead to keep the congregation running.. as a consequence of this, a few congregations have been disbanded and merged with other nearby congregations.. has anyone heard anything similar to this?.

I have...not in NYC but in the congs near WT Farm...several have recently combined due to bethelites being assigned to other areas and some others in the cong joining a foreign language group (eg Italian). Those "left behind" are languishing somewhat...territories not being worked, morale down, etc. Interesting, that this is right at tthe doorstep of bethel (Farm upstate NY)...many JW's are tired and perplexed about what's happenning and why. No one levels with anyone.

Cognac...I'd warn her...wouldn't you had liked to have been warned before you married him originally?
Do it quietly and discreetly...give some examples of the abuse...if she listens ...fine...if not...you tried...she'll learn the hard way unfortunately
