I think they have to know on some level that it's all false. How could they not? All the scrambling with New Blight and threats of ramped up shunning to keep the sheep cowering I think points to the GB knowing something is very wrong and trying to stop the bleeding. They'll never acknowledge publicly that they're wrong because that would end their sweet lifestyle. Think about it. The GB have a lot to lose. A life where every material necessity is provided for them without their having to put any effort into a real job. The adulation and obedience of seven-eight million adoring sheep. Absolute power over every tiny aspect of their slaves' lives. Very few people would want to give all that up. The GB will say and do whatever they have to and keep the game going during their lifetimes, delaying the day of reckoning for some future group of GB to deal with.

The governing body are digging their own grave.
by atomant insurely the gb aren't naive enough to believe their own lies.what does it take for the majority of j dubs to wake up to themselves and finally realize that they are being robbed on all levels emotionally.financially, spiritually, intellectually and many other aspects of their day to day lives..

Ponderings of a Worldly Person
by Nevuela in35-year-old female in california here.
never a jw, but have had bible studies and attended several meetings and even a convention once.
i've always been agnostic with leanings toward the belief in some deity or other, although the more i learned from the jw's, the more i've learned to doubt, not just their teachings, but the fundamental teachings of all religions.

Hi, Nevuela. Your roommate could very well be reacting to this summer's conventions and the infamous bunker video. The whole convention was to emphasize loyalty and more loyalty to 'Jehovah' (which really means the Governing Body) and to shun non-JW or former JW friends and family. The bunker video shows JWs hunkering down in a (very comfy looking) bunker while the forces of chaos rage outside. At the end, riot police break in to round up all the good little Witnesses and (presumably) cart them all off to concentration camps. Its no wonder your roommate is paranoid given how the JWs are saying the end of the world is coming any day now. I was too when I was a JW. It's been 30 years since I was told I'd never finish school, get a job, get married, get old because the world would end. I'm 40 now and the world hasn't ended.

Paranormal Warning
by Cold Steel ini've heard some weird stories coming from jws about the paranormal.
i know about the warnings about items that come from unbelievers -- those don't interest me as much.
what i am interested in are actual experiences in stories of the paranormal you've heard or experienced yourself.

Sevan- we don't need a Satan for us to be evil. Its all about choices. Some people are evil because they like it, then blame the Devil when they get caught. "I'm not responsible! The Devil made me do it!"

Convicted Child Rapist Proselytizing. Is the Community Aware? Is the Community Safe?
by freemindfade inwow, this is awesome.
this really shows the jw passiveness towards child sex abusers.
there needs to be more of this exposing this!.

How dare a convicted child rapist show his face in a neighborhood with children! And how dare the JWs allow him to do it! Right here they were put on notice that this creep has injured a child. If they didn't know it before, they know it now. And if I were the guy filming, I'd call the police and report him. No way he should be roaming at large.
freemindfade- I'm not generally a violent person but I agree with you. Bastards who hurt kids should get the death penalty. Once someone has crossed the line and raped a child, that person isn't safe to have around. Put them down like rabid dogs before they can hurt anyone else.

Why THAT talk? Why NOW?
by dubstepped inin another thread there's a discussion about how the show must go on and meetings weren't even slowed down by the deaths or medical emergencies of ones in the audience.
for instance, one young brother's unbelieving father was murdered locally.
not long afterward he's assigned a part on an assembly about the resurrection or something.

I think a lot of it is sheer idiocy. The elders don't stop and use their brains when assigning parts.
My one sister was eleven or twelve when she was assigned a talk about how to have a successful marriage. Mom was PISSED and didn't keep quiet about it. She told an elder it was inappropriate for them to make a young unmarried girl lecture an adult woman on a subject she had no clue about. Mom ended up giving the talk herself, which was ironic given she was divorced after an unhappy marriage.

I knew a JW lady who claimed that a necklace she bought at a yard sale was possessed. It gave her nightmares and stuff started moving around her apartment. She was known to have mental issues so I don't think anyone else really believed her.
Another older JW lady claimed to have been attacked by a demon. She blamed it on her husband having an affair and that allowed the demon into their home. Never heard THAT theory before. She said she called out 'Jehovah' and the demon ran. Wimpy demon!

Maybe the little old lady will brush it off, but something may have stayed in the girl's mind. It may not be obvious today or tomorrow, or even a year from now but its possible a tiny baby doubt is gnawing at that girl's brain. I had a few doubts started in my head when I was kid from things people said at the doors. It took years for them to grow up, but they eventually did.

Necessary Family Business (NFB) is now acceptable according to the weekly WT Study
by Quarterback induring the last decade i've seen so many articles, and top speakers try to downplay that nfb policy.
now, this weeks wt study mentions a positive experience of someone applying having, "contact and applying nfb with a df relative".

Notice how the young man didn't come back for love of the religion? He came back because he was pining for his family.
NFB =
taking care of elderly family who thought they would be in the new system by now and are not finically prepared.
We certainly will not. So start being nice [ i.e. NFB] to your DF'd kids. You're going to need them.
In my home state its the law that children MUST support their parents when they're old and disabled. No ifs, ands, or buts. That's one law I would LOVE to see contested in court when it comes to parents who voluntarily cut contact with their kids. If your parents refuse to speak to you for 20 years and behave like you're dead, why should they expect you to care for them?

Trolley cart "witnessing" is getting ridiculous
by oppostate ini really fail to see how much actual "witnessing" is occurring with the trolley carts.publishers, usually pioneers, just stand or sit there not engaging anyone and count their time.. the only thing i notice that it's accomplishing is brand exposure for jw.0rg so the public is exposed to the logo and literature/poster card headlines.. take for example this "evening" witnessing by a pioneer elder while on summer holiday/vacation.. .
is this not a wth kinda moment when you consider the years of slaving, knocking on doors, business territory and bible studies we had to keep performing so we weren't branded a "weak" publisher?.

James Mixon- Girl Scout cookies are delicious! Perhaps the JW carts/booths would get more attention if they disguised the propaganda with a bake sale?

This generation will by no means pass away
by Darryl ingood morning i hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
there has been a lot of talk about the "new light" concerning the generation teaching.
it's been a major part of the prophecy concerning the last days and of course since jws are the only ones able to decipher and understand prophecy it is of great importance to get this main prophecy right.

The original teaching was that the world would end, finito! in 1914. When the world did not, in fact, end that year an explanation had to be devised. That's where the '1914 generation' teaching came from. Something to distract from the fiasco of Armageddon not coming. Which set the JWs up for another fiasco down the line. The 'overlapping generation' is just a way to shove the problem off a little longer for some future GB to explain away.
