"now let's pay more than the usual attention to (insert name of any and all part or talk)" since we were obviously deficient in our listening skills at every single meeting.

i watched the episode with my daughter and while there were things that were right on track, iot didnt have the feel of a jw family. regarding the dog tags...my dad wears his and my grandmother had them. it was so if there blood card was MIA they would be covered. my daughter had the reaction i wanted to hear...that she doesnt see how god would want someone to die over that.

Relationships & JW's
by Kool Jo ingood day:.
just a query....how did growing up a jw impact your views of relationships, in terms of love/marriage?.
were you too gullible, naive?.
-
joyfulfader
my relationships in the org were completely disfunctional. its hard to have a positive physical relationship because its drilled in your head that sex is bad sex is bad sex is bad and then poof...u get married for the wrong reason to one of the available single men in ur area who has the right "spiritual" qualifications and its ok. sad thing is the sex wears off (if ever was actually any good) and u r left with someone u barely know and dont even like. then ur stuck. there r no other options. my bf now is amazing and wonderful and he is an athiest. i love him for who he is and not because he fits the jw mould.

Birthdays & Christmas
by Rattigan350 inwhat is the deal with people criticizing jws because they don't celebrate birthdays or christmas?.
it is as if when someone is born, from a baby, to a child, teen, adult; that one has a responsiblity to celebrate christmas (and i thought it was a free country); and others have a responsiblity to celebrate others' anniversary of one's birth.. i don't get the criticisms as if celebrating either is a great thing and the not celebrating is a bad thing.. data on star trek said that he does not understand why people celebrate their birthdays - a day one can not possibly remember.. what are you actually celebrating?
the fact that you made it another year?
-

You have obviously not had child diagnosed with a terminal illness so that each passing year is a celebration of an immense milestone. There are some people who can't take those birthdays for granted.

Going to 9:30 am meeting. Oh Joy...NOT! Cliques anyone??
by OneStepOut93 inyep.
curling my lashes and putting on pant hose to be"modest" and ready for all the dribble that's going to be said.
*sigh* plus i have to deal with mary-sue or little miss perfect as i call her.

my former hall was the worst. certain families ONLY associated with their own families or a select other few. the gossip was heinous and perpetuated by the clique who were the elder/pioneer families with money. then there were the fundamentalist jw's who were also family that were in a usually silent but perceptible feud with the gossipy, wealthier clique. made for an uncomfortable situation for many when they were at odds. was part of the reason i left. watching them made me physically ill. cliques r so prevalent and so divisive.

As a JW, how did you feel about shunning?
by jwfacts ini am interested in the answers for a new poll.
also, feel free to suggest other options, wording etc.agreed in full with the watchtower guidelinesagreed with shunning in general, but not for familywas stumbled by this practice but shunned as instructeddid not agree with the practice and secretly associated with disfellowshipped people .
for me personally, i did not agree with the practice and secretly associated with disfellowshipped people, even whilst at bethel.

Sadly i fell into the category of following the guidelines of shunning to a T. I even spent a total of 4 yrs df'd. shunned by my father (but not my mother). I look back in disgust at my behavior. i was Df'd unjustly one time and then again during a catastrophically difficult time in my life when i needed more support than i ever needed in my life. i worked my butt off to come back each time. Thankfully I am out for good...faded successfully so far. I will never again think of myself as better than someone else because a group of ignorant elitists tell me it is so. The GB is a dictatorship carrying out its own version of ethnic cleansing. While they may not actually murder masses of people, they maim and scar them usually forever and make them like refugees in a strange land by casting them out from their own families. abandoning them when they most need support. despicable.

the only scenario that i can see positive is the abused woman separates from her husband (rightfully so), divorces him and fades away never to be heard from again. her ex husband is left unscripturally divorced and unable to remarry. spares any more women of his abuse and frees her of it all. may be unrealistic but would be great if it was an option.
