I remember my last convention 2011...I was "waking up" and an experience was given by a young man who decided to up and quit his job to pioneer. When asked how he supported himself one of the main ways he mentioned was relying on the "generosity of the friends". I remember getting this bewildered look on my face as witnesses around me applauded furiously. I felt ill and embarrassed that such a thing was being applauded!! I sat there looking at those around me incredulously murmuring "Seriously????" I don't think I applauded ever again. It was just another nail in the coffin. Applause for using others. Ridiculous. -

POF creeped me out although my friend met her husband of that site. I have tried other online dating services but just don't like that method. It's fun for a while with all of the attention but then it gets overwhelming for me. I did date a nice guy for several months but distance and his weird schedule were a problem. I don't know if I could stand to read the responses to your fake ad Kate lol -

Fun at The WT This Morning
by OneFingerSalute inso ofs was at the wt this morning, and on par.
14 the question was, "what trust can a faithful christian whose relative is disfellowshipped have?".
after awhile when no one else raised their hands ofs did, and was called on.. ofs commented, "one of jw can have the trust that god will lovingly give them the ability to uphold the disfellowshipping arrangement by totally shunning family members.".

Sounds like everyone has some great plans!! Anniversaries, vacations, time with family...love it!! So wish I could make it to Lake Tahoe!
LisaRose- I hope nothing weird happens during your visit to Eureka! Sheriff Carter will take care of it and perhaps Zane can provide some eye candy lol (a reference to one of my favorite shows)
Mine started with an island adventure in the Caribbean. My birthday is next month and my daughter turns 18 this summer. She is going on a Young Life retreat next month and she is so looking forward to it! She is on a spiritual quest. :)
And best of all I am doing a fitness transformation boot camp for 6 weeks. Scared but super excited!! All of this in addition to a trip back home for my nephew's birthday and my sister's wedding shower (she is getting married late summer) and a 24 credit course load while working full time :)
I think this summer will fly but I am so excited about it all!!!
Can anyone please send rain to NC?? My lawn and plants are crispy :(

I wonder what the turnover is for those that monitor the "apostate" sites. I can't imagine any one of them could remain exposed to reality for very long and not come to their senses and leave. -

I figured something like this was inevitable with their ultra conservative views on dating and affection. Those kids had no chance at a normal, positive view of sexuality. The repression I am sure is overwhelming. It's not an excuse for heinous behavior but it seems like the logical progression from being raised by Christian zealots. Sadly, I am sure this is only the first of many scandals to come as these young people strike out on their own. -

Sorry, I read how women in their 30's with kids are perceived as a burden. Not always true. Had to have a mini rant! -

Just hold on a second...I was still in while in my thirties, attractive, widowed with a child and had a well paying job, beautiful house and I was constantly avoiding "brothers" who wanted me for what I had. I was also pioneering for a while. I was always being set up with somebody somewhere. I was and am very independent and successful. I was mentally awake at 37 and totally out by 39. I am 42 now. I think it is unfair to stereotype since I ran into more mooching, loser single brothers to last a lifetime. Just because someone is a man does not make them the responsible party and the woman and her child(ren) the dependent losers even in the messed up world of JWs. -

I found this quote disturbing...living as a JW is definitely living under duress!!
"It is not a matter of servitude under duress just so that we can pass through the great tribulation. It is the way we are designed to live, the way that yields the greatest joy."
I can't possibly read anymore. This is probably the second or third time I have ever visited JW.org and the nonsense is just too overwhelming for my logical thinking process...

Prayer before a meal was standard practice growing up and my dad always said the same thing. Now my parents are the only ones still in. My sisters and their families and me and my daughter are out. My mom even knows I am an atheist but he still always prays before all family meals. He even prayed when they visited my home with my boyfriend present. I have no idea how to approach it either since they have accepted that we don't believe anymore but treat us normally. I don't want to mess that up.
My whole family will be coming for my daughter's graduation and I will have non witnesses there including my "not really boyfriend", my df'd friend (with whom they have associated with in the past) and some of my daughter's old friends from before who aren't baptized and some of her school friends...about 20 people. I do not want my dad to pray before the meal I am preparing in my own home but I too have no idea how to avoid it.
When I am at their house it's their rules but I kind of want to keep my house jehovah-free. My daughter is attending a church now and is not able to be influenced so that isn't a worry. I guess I just want my house...My rules.
I shall be keeping up with this topic to glean info for myself as well. I wish I could offer some advice!!
