  Cali - Pornea?

  anyone from the u.s. ever hear california referred to as "cali-pornea"?

  whether you're from cali or not, was it your impression that california jws had a reputation as being more "worldly" than dubs from other states?

  i was just talking to a friend of mine who is the talk coordinator at his hall.

  he was telling me that he cant get brothers to come and give talks at his hall.

  i remember when i was giving talks that was all the rage.

  Now I understand that these people are trying to have actual balance. Not the
  balance that WTS means- seek the kingdom first and foremost, do more, more, more.
  They believe the doctrine, like I once did, but they don't act like they are going to
  displease Jehovah if they don't do more, more, more. It's not the bottom of the
  barrel, it's less warped.

  I agree with that. Some actually are getting wise to this.

  In my church, the leadership are constantly telling those with lots of gifts, talents and abilities that they want to offer, to take care of themselves and not try to do/be involved in everything.

  When trying to make sure people don't become unbalanced with their perspective they always remind everyone "God first, family second (not in a neglected way), THEN church responsibilities.

  It feels so much better than WTs approach on "reaching out"

  i got this message from a forum member.. i think you may be confusing the wts' understanding of the "sheep" of matthew chapter 25 (who have not yet been separated from the "goats") and the "other sheep" of john chapter 10. the two groups are not (i.e.

  no longer) considered synonymous.. .

  what am i missing?

  Always wondered why we had to prepare ahead, it's so easy to find the 'answers', then everyone pats themselves on the back on how they've 'made the truth their own' and 'oh how I've learned'.

  I NEVER used to prepare for meetings/WT studies etc

  What was the point? You could find the answers and get the points in seconds - when the paragraphs were being read!

  They even changed that 20 years ago if you remember. They used to ask the questions, take the answers and THEN read the paragraph in summary.

  Once they changed it around and read the paragraph FIRST there was definitely no point pre-studying.

  Did they think we were morons . . .

  After reading many topics.. I'm confused. Is this a JW forum or an ANTI-JW?

  i'm studying with a jehovah's witness and it makes quite a bit of sense but i've been reading many topics on here and it seems that i can find every christian denomination and every religion except jehovahs witnesses.

  do any jw's actually browse here?

  maybe i'm just getting unlucky and picking the wrong topics where everyones discussing about how they used to be jw's.

  There are things the Witnesses have gotten right (No trinity, no hell fire).

  As Michael is obviously new to Bible study I think he should be encouraged to come to his own conclusions.

  And be allowed to see all the different perspectives.

  The above is purely your own opinion (to which you are perfectly entitled) but you know that many here do not agree with you.

  Lets not be guilty of the same mistakes as the WT

  Not sure how long you've been studying or how long/what kind of a friendship you have with your "mentor".

  But if you really want to see the true face of JWs ask the question below and take a big step back.

  "You know those nutters that make the news saying things like 'the world will end this week'?

  "Yes"

  "Well when it doesn't happen do they become false prophets like Jesus said?"

  "er . . .yes"

  "Is it true that for at least 60 years up until 1995, JWs preached that God had revealed through the WT that the generation of 1914 would see paradise restored?

  " . . . er . . . (shuffle, shuffle) . . . (attempt to change subject) . . . er . . . what have you been reading/who've you been speaking to . . . ?

  "Well is it true?

  " . . . well yes . . . but . . . "

  "Ok come back and see me in 7 years (2014) and apologise for personally spreading false prophesy. Then I'll tell you what I've been reading/who I've been speaking to.

  If you didn't know the above maybe you should check out what you are getting into.

  Seriously - do your research. And welcome.

  Looking For A New Church

  being raised as a jw is a double edged sword.

  on one hand, you get a phenominal boot-camp education on the bible, what it means, how to use it in your life (even long after leaving the society).

  on the other hand, it makes looking for a new home-church a bit of a challenge.

  (I'll also take a minute to clarify: some churches belive in the same-entity concept of Jehovah, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit; others have a duotheism of Jehovah and Jesus being the same individual, and the Holy Spirit a separate entity.

  I have yet to come across any church that teaches any of the above.

  I use the term "trinity" to descibe both theologies, although I know it's *technically* incorrect for duothesim

  That is the crux of the matter. You have a problem with the above quotes, but you are eliminating churches from your search that actually agree with you.

  My Uncle is still Pioneering at 84 years old and will never see the end!

  my uncle is still an elder and pioneering at the age of 84. he started studying with the witnesses in the early 1960's and was made an elder a couple of years later.

  he has auxilary pioneered for the last 40 years.

  today, he is elderly,fragile,has heart problems,can't hardly walk,and he still continues to auxilary pioneer.

  They might see the end. But obviously not because of any 607/1914 time frame.

  And the reward might be at the end of their life.

  The WT errors don't necessarily negate this.

  It might not be what they were expecting . . .paradise earth etc.

  I actually believe that the big surprise JWs will get at the end is that loads of others make it too.

  Proving the WT wrong but not God or his promises.

  In his grace I think he'll forgive many because most aren't responsible for the wrongs.
