You wrote a very eloquent essay that could be anyone who was raised as a JW and left. My experiences
are slightly different (I am female, white and went to college at age 18). However, you expressed my feelings
for me. Your insight on the racial issues is what I have observed. I hope you continue your writings-you
express yourself beautifully.

I think it is exciting that you joined the military. I wanted to join at 18-the college benefits would have been
worth it (I have epilepsy, so I was refused). Not to mention the team building experience and learning how to get along with others and on your own. I hope your military career is going well.

Good luck in all you do and keep well during this time of conflict.

Update from Bethel....

just received word from my parents who were visiting with a bethelite [8>] couple over the week end (circuit assembly).. my dad's on the defensive because i have begun to tell him exactly what i think og the wbts.. anyhow he wanted to let me know, per this couple, the jw are housing firefighters and even feeding them!

I cannot seem to get my mother to understand that....she thinks that by asking for more cash, they doing a good deed!

just received word from my parents who were visiting with a bethelite [8>] couple over the week end (circuit assembly).. my dad's on the defensive because i have begun to tell him exactly what i think og the wbts.. anyhow he wanted to let me know, per this couple, the jw are housing firefighters and even feeding them!

Patriot-I believe you. I somehow received an e-mail at my home (I do not know how they got my
personal e-mail) from a woman who stated she was from NY and the brothers were there preaching
ground zero.

I cannot believe the city or the feds would allow the JW's in, however, stranger things have
happened.

Anyway, I am cutting and pasting one of the e-mails I was able to retrieve from AOL's trash bin. I got this
from someone who read my question on this web site. I asked what JW's were doing to help. I cannot figure out how she/it
tracked my AOL account. Her earlier e-mail was much longer and much more detailed. I deleted it. She stated
that the JW's were at "Ground Zero" and preaching.

This is the e-mail I received from this person...she did not identify herself. I did not e-mail her back.

TXXXX, I have some emails I can send. I know they set up a table at the end of brooklyn bridge to help the many who traveled that way - they provided water, food, etc. This tragedy affected JW's also because we have friends and families that worked in the towers, in fact one of my friends was just getting ready to tour the tower when the plane hit. She was among those running through the streets for safety. I can
assure you that the WT society is rendering aid, they are just more quiet about it.

According to my mother, in the Chicago area, nothing is being locally done to get aid to those who need it-either in the
org or not.

as a witness what occupation did/do you hold?.

i was speaking with a friend of mine that is a former witness and we remarked about how many of us have worked in some sort of janitorial work.

As I grew up, I was told to become a secretary....this would hold me until the perfect brother came along to marry me and "take care" of me-then I could have kids and pioneer. I now have a B.S. in Business Management and a Paralegal certificate-no kids.

Most of the "sisters" I knew growing up (in the 60's and 70's) did not work. The "brothers" were carpenters, truck drivers, funeral directors (two in one family), small business owners (carpet to meat distribution), one CPA (self-taught) and insurance salesmen. Since we lived in an area where many new immigrants came, we did have quite a few janitors. I cannot think of one doctor or attorney at the various congregations we attended.

We attended 5 congregations in and around Chicago. My mother was a dissenter who would argue with the elders, get on the bad side of them and high tail it to a new congregation to "start over". She is now totally brainwashed (I think somehow they removed it) and will not dispute anything. Just a little background to give you my perspective.

Since I was a JW when the Jackson 5 were hot, I do not recall any discussion on this.

I posted a quetion on a JW site, asking what the JW's were doing to help. I got a few responses. All were the same. All were from the official JW web site that says they fed and gave water to people.

My opinion is "big deal"...other organizations are doing much more. One of the posting I read said they were down at ground zero ministering to the workers. Perhaps the heroic workers do need hope, however, telling them this is the beginning of Armageddon cannot be too helpful.

I asked my mother what the local congregation is doing (she lives outside Chicago) and she said just asking for more donations. They, of course, do not tell where the donations go, but my guess, is that very little if any is going for humanitarian aid to the victims or their families.

Interesting letter. How frightening.

Reading this reminded me of all the Saturday and Sunday mornings I missed as a child. Going door to door and begging people to listen. Very few did. The adults would always try to take a child with so the "householder" would be less wary when opening the door. If the child were allowed to lead the conversation, the thought was, perhaps they might purchase a magazine.

Now they want to go to bus stops and parking lots. UGH! I will be even more wary when I go out.

Mailing Postcards as Aposed to Letters?

i have recently sent out about 60 postcards($.25 each) to the jw's notifying them of the wtbs being a ngo of the un.. the entire postcard was used up, with some of the information in bold print, and underlined points made to stand out.. included were the un internet site address,telephone #, for verification and breif explanation of what is required of a ngo.. granted there is not very much room for information, but it may have a pluss side to it, because jw's are instructed to not open and read apostate material, they may be more likely to read some thing they don't have to open, and more than one family member may read it?.

some of the postcards i put my return address and some just my initials(depending of past mailings responses).

i figured just putting my intials on some, may cause them out of curiousity to read it to see if they can figure out who sent it.. any observations, or pointers?

I think that is a good idea. I am going to send one to my mother.

I think the JW's will be furious, then curious. They might read it and if another family member sees it, they might deny seeing it. They might start thinking though. It might make some light bulbs go on.

I MOVED OUT!

ok, so i moved out on saturday.

i am not 18 for 17 more days but my mom asked me to leave early all the same.

on friday things got hairy, we had jw friends from out of town visiting, and i exploded.

Good for you!!!

I also moved out when I was 18. I just happened to live with a single mother JW who was terrified I would end up poor, pregnant and going door to door--and married at 18. She encouraged my education over the elders objections. I got to go to college. I got grants, loans and worked to pay my way through. It was worth it. A whole world is out there waiting for you to discover it.

I was never disfellowshipped (at least that I know of) however, everyone in my immediate family was. My father for smoking, my older sister for fornication and my mother for fornication. My mother appealed and got her "conviction" overturned by the governing body. She only did it once. ;)

Anyway, if it is any consulation, you will make it. I did. I went to college and learned about other people and religions. Do you really think that God is going to only save people who call themselves JW's? What about Mother Theresa? All she did was help people. How can that be evil? You need to sit and logically think about things like that. What about women's rights? Do you see a similarity between Afganistan and the JW's? No education, should not work, etc.

You are important and have your whole life ahead of you. Try not to let the shunning and negativity worry you. Do you really want people like them for friends? They judge without facts. They rip families apart by demanding that non-believers have little contact. How healthy can this be? It is not. Bottom line. They are a mind controlling cult.

Please do not give up. It will be hard. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.
