On VH-1, all week, you could see everything about the 70's you wanted to forget. (Like 1975...I was waiting for them to mention the JWs and armageddon, but, they did not, alas.)
It has been a *trip* down memory lane....Tonight it covers 1978 & 1979. Two of my favorite years.
Argmageddon did not happen, disco was in full swing (though I had a secret hard rock thing going on) and I could still wear bell bottoms and platforms!

i admit i have never voted (shame), the last couple of years i have decided to vote but when the time comes i back out.
i like having the freedom to choose whether to vote or not but i never know who to vote on the day that counts and then i feel uncomfortable at the last minute.. how about you?

I think the key difference, and why the topic title related to the US is that we (from other countries) tend not to deny our countries past or even current wrongdoings to the same extent. For whatever reason though, some treat the USA almost as a religion that is infallible and will never do wrong. Maybe it is a cultural difference in how people identify with their countries, I don't know - not everyone does it, just a few.
I have never denied the US has done terrible things. I don't know of anyone on this board, even Yeru, who treats the US as a religion that is infallible and can and will do no wrong.
It has nothing to do with culture. It has everything to do with you refusing to accept that *most* of us have agreed that the US gov and mililtary has done *bad* things-and will no doubt in the future.
A post is put up showing the *other* Indians and it is dismissed without a counter. I could not find a picture of Ghandi crying behind a British Empire flag, or I would have put it up for fun....
Go on....have fun. Bash, call names. I know you don't *hate* us. You *hate* our government. And military. And yada, yada, yada.....

I don't see why people have a problem with this. Only a fool supposes that their country / government is without any fault. I certainly dont think the UK has never done any wrong.
No country, government or administration is without fault. Bringing up the Indians is simply ridiculous. As Uzzah noted, the British, French and Spanish were the perps there...the settlers of the Americas completed the job.
We might as well rehash history from Adam and Eve.
Do you all think that the US is going to change when GW is gone? Clinton was doing the same thing GW was doing...just not on as grand a scale. The next prez is going to have to deal with the same BS.
There is never going to be *peace and security* in the world as we know it. Perhaps the JW upbringing many of us had has clouded the view....
There is always going to be *someone* in power in the world...it happens to be the US right now. In 50 years it will probably be Chna and we will all be commiserating on a DB on how bad they are.
I know of many, if not all of the faults of the US. Having supposed faults pointed out, continually, by countries that rely on the US for aid money is annoying. My tax dollars go to help your countries. Remember that the next time your country needs something and American aid is offered.
BTW, living in the US gives a much better view of the faults. You don't know half of it....

We have all agreed that Americans suck; no you like us though. You hate our military, our leaders and our politics. But you will use the military and leaders and politics when your country is in an emergency...
