Actually, I pointed out to her that the way it's translated now is closer to accurate, and that if she looks at the Interlinear (one of the parallel bibles in the app), she'd see it. She said the Interlinear is "too confusing". I think she simply doesn't want to think all that much.

i thought the watchtower would weaken acts 17 and revelation 2, eliminate people who question serious doctrines like the bible-based governing body, five-hundred-year generation, blind obedience without checking the bible and the systematic elimination of our critical thinking skills like cults usually do.. .

The other translations took liberties that are not in the original Greek text. For example, the phrases "to check up on Paul and Silas" or "to see whether Paul and Silas' teaching" don't appear in the original text. The NLT and CEB and other translations add these phrases for clarity. The NWT does not in this case, but it doesn't change the meaning. I would say, however, that they did change the word "received" to "accepted". That's kinda sneaky since a quick lookup with an interlinear would show "received" as the primary meaning of the Greek word " ἐδέξαντο " (Strong's 1209), though "accepted" is a secondary meaning. The vast majority of translations use "received". Not quite sure why the new NWT changes it except to just introduce a subtle idea that the Beroeans accepted what Paul and Silas said instead of simply received it. Seem like an odd change, though.

Yeah, it's in there. It's in the outline at the beginning of Acts. For chapter 15, it says "Letters from the governing body". In the new JW Library, searching for that phrase yields zero results, so it appears they did not include the outlines in the search results.
do you think this could have been an experiment to see how smoothly these events can be processed, and what the reaction is from the rank and file?
it would sure save a lot of money if events like this could replace at least the one day circuit assemblies.
there has to be some recognition that the "flock" is becoming weary and they don't have the funds to be travelling to these events.
It could be. I know of one KH in my area that will be "testing" having the Special Assembly Day at their local KH with the three congregations meeting there all attending. This, in spite of the fact that the Assembly Hall is less than 30 minutes away.

True... Jesus never did that, but the first century apostles DID. Remember the "daily distribution" in which the Greek-speaking Jews' widows were being overlooked and which the apostles had seven certified men appointed to take care of? (Acts 6:1-5)

i read a comentary about how the jw's changed the greek word so they could claim that the great crowd are not standing before the throne in rev 7:9 but out side the inner temple and in the court yard so to speak on earth.
my question is does the bible say somewhere that the inner temple means heaven and out side the inner sanctuary is the earth?.
Interesting point... Rev 7:9-14 and Rev 22:14. Note the robes. Who does that apply to? WTS says the 144,000 in Rev 22. What do you think?
