Just at your meeting. Our "local needs" were significantly different, but still a WTF topic.

Question
by Fading Begins ini am sure that this has already been discussed, so maybe someone could direct me to the correct link.
i just haven't been able to access this site as often as i would like.
at the meeting tonight (i wasn't there but was told about it), the brothers were told to pack up a "survival kit" with enough provisions to last for six months - water, medications etc.

In effect the GB says the new testament was only written for the 144k - right?
by Comatose inbecause if you just read it then its plain that all should partake of the emblems and go to heaven etc.
they get around that by saying it only applied to those when written who all anointed and then a small group today.
so they take away the bible for the average witness.

Comment from my dad, "They are smarter than me."
by Faithful Witness inmy jw (converts of about 5 years) came over on thursday and ate a turkey dinner with us.
we didn't call it thanksgiving, but that was obviously what it was.
they were proud to give me my own copy of the new revised and improved nwt bible.

The revised NWTs are NOT only for JWs. The recent shipment to the congregations is for placing in the field ministry. Keep up, Brother Mike!

I have heard this. I don't think its new. In discussing the blood doctrine for example, on several occasions I have been asked, "Do you think you're smarter than these brothers?".
My wife says that. To look humble, I have to say, "of course not". However, next time she says it, I'm going to say: well . . . um . . . at least with reading comprehension, YES!

The elders came by and my DA letter
by Crazyguy inthe lead elder co of my hall said he was going to push for a jc meeting.
i could tell all along all hes interested in is protecting his god the org.. so i'm 90% sure now of going on the offesive and first having a family meeting telling them i'm offically quitting and how its going to play out and how i'll will be shunned even though i have commited no sin.
i also may explain a little of why and how i came to this decision with out bashing the org to much out of respect for my wife.

Writing a letter to disassociate yourself is playing by their rules.
I disagree with this sentiment, and other similar sentiments, but only based on the content of the letter, and for this reason:
Everyone, then, that confesses union with me before men, I will also confess union with him before my Father who is in the heavens; but whoever disowns me before men, I will also disown him before my Father who is in the heavens. - Matt 10:32
I can see myself writing a similar letter in the future.

Are there ever any scriptural reasons why a man would get a separation from his wife?

Libelle, it's his own rationalization. In my experience, elders are pretty staunch about requiring proof that one is scripturally free to remarry. I've seen them go to great, great lengths to get proof thereof. I've never seen them make up proof, though that doesn't mean that doesn't happen. What gives them proof? The only thing I've seen, aside from the marriage being dissolved due to infidelity in the first place, is a letter or verbal statement directly from the other person that basically says they've had a sexual relationship with another, thereby freeing the person from the marriage spiritually speaking. And it has to be a sexual relationship. A casual friendship with someone of the opposite sex doesn't count. Adultery must be involved, otherwise all bets are off.
If you were to find out that he was getting remarried, all you would have to do is submit a letter stating that you have not had relations with anyone else (if that were true), and his world would come crashing down. If you do end up having a relationship with someone else, then you would basically be freeing him, scripturally speaking. I've known elders who intentionally cheated on their wives just to get out of the marriage and free them. It's not an uncommon occurrance.
Best wishes to you. Divorce is a tough thing to go through. I may be going through it myself in the near future. I'm dreading the process, but not the outcome.

CO explaining at Circuit Assembly how to measure neighbourly love
by Daniel1555 ini attended the circuit assembly this weekend.
it was boring as always (except for one positive thing that was said was that we should be gentle especially the elders).. there was one thing that left me absolutely speechless.
the co was explaining how to measure neighbourly love: by the amount of time spent in fieldservice.. the next point he mentioned was that we should strictly adhere to the disfellowshipping arrangments and not find excuses to speak to df family members.. .

I could just imagine the Samaritan whipping out a Watchtower or Tract and preaching to the beat-up Jew lying on the ground! LOL!

Why do we have Assemblies?
by Rattigan350 inwhy do we have assemblies?
was the topic of the book/brochure study last week.. the answer not presented is that they are the organization's black friday.
stores do black friday as a loss leader to get people into the stores to spend money on more pricey stuff, not discounted.. assemblies are put on to give away books and other literature and have dramas to get people in to donate and contribute more than normally done.. yes, religion is a business.

SFPW, I'm actually pleasantly surprised at your response. It's well-reasoned, and not entirely one-sided. Kudos to you!
That said, I'd venture to say that if District Conventions and other assemblies were suddenly done away with, there would be a collective sigh of relieve among the majority of the ~8 million JWs. However, we all know that's not going to happen any time soon. It seems to be going in the complete opposite direction. Not only do we have the Special Assembly Day, the Circuit Assembly and the District Convention, we now have the Annual Meeting, which, for the first time, was broadcast to ~25% of JWs worldwide.

I want to add evidence to the Jesus is not Michael thing, for anyone who cares.
I'm shocked that I overlooked some really important detail, which, for me, nails it entirely.
In Daniel 10:13, we know it speaks of Michael as "one of the" foremost or first princes. Which, that in itself would lend credence to this issue. However, more importantly, we should pay attention to who it is that is speaking, the one who had the appearance of a man.
Verses 5 and 6 describe this one who had the appearance of a man. Clothed in linen, hips girded with gold of Uphaz, body like chrysolite, face with the appearance of lightning, eyes like fiery torches, arms and feet like burnished (smooth, glossy, polished) copper, words like the sound of a crowd. Does this sound familiar? Revelation 1:12-15 has a similar description: clothed with a garment that reached to the feet, girded at the breasts with a golden girdle, eyes a fiery flame, feet like fine copper when glowing in a furnace, voice as the sound of many waters. This is none other than the Christ. Thus, in Daniel 10, this one talking to Daniel is the pre-human Jesus, and he is referring to Michael as someone else entirely.
