I always thought I would survive basically for the same reasons mentioned by Cedar. When I started to feel that I could no longer comply with all of the regulations imposed on me by the organization, I decided it was time to get out. I started to fade, them I found that I no longer believed anything they said. I decided to take my chances with God by myself. I decided I would survive or die but I would be the one making the rules for me.

When you were active, did you feel you would survive Armageddon?
by Band on the Run ini am curious about this issue.
personally, i never felt i would be good enough for a split second.
one would think that knowing you can not be good enough to survive would it make it easier to leave the witnesses and live for the present.

How can one be a witness of events unseen and unheard?
by kepler inback in the 13th century, the rumors coming to western europe of things happening in central asia could have been much worse.
events then were about as apocalyptic as anything we have experienced in our own day.
much of the world was coming under new management, that of the descendants of genghis khan.

You have all done a good job of reasoning and answering the question of how you cannot be a witness to these unseen and unheard events and how you must contort the words used in the Bible accounts to make them fit a certain belief. As a born-in, you don't question what your parents teach you about what you should believe. Although there were some born-ins who recognized it was false reasoning before others. When everyone in your family believes this unreasonable belief, you just never question it; until you begin to think for yourself. Even then, you are asked how you dare question the FDS when they are the ones who taught you the "truth" in the first place. Most people would think you were crazy to believe someone when they told you an event happened but it was invisible.

RIP Nora Ephron
by Farkel inthank you for your remarkable contributions, awesome humor, wit and sensitivity in the cinema.
you were a ground-breaking female director, and intuitively knew as a writer how to entertain people, make people laugh, make people cry and give people joy.
no one but you could make guys love "chick movies" when they really aren't wired to do that!.

One of my favorite directors. I always listened to the parts in the DVDs where she told us why and how they had decided to film the scenes in the movies. She will certainly be missed.
Poopsiecakes, although I had heard of "When Harry Met Sally" I had not watched it until last month. I really liked it. I added it to my DVD library.

Latest convention brochure on,,, the Governing Body
by cedars ini've finally get my hands on a pdf of one of the two newly released brochures, this one entitled "who are doing jehovah's will today?".
here's a link so you can download your own copy.... http://www66.zippyshare.com/v/98881625/file.html.
predictably, the brochure is extremely vague on key topics.

Many of us Witness veterans can remember when WTS literature would talk about "types" and "antitypes", "typical" and "antitypical" fulfillments of Bible prophecy. There is a school of theology which holds that the Bible is deeply allegorical and full of symbolic dramas. There is Biblical precedent for this as can be seen in the discussion in the book of Hebrews about Sarah and Hagar. Many took that discussion and ran with it, applying it to the Bible as a whole
I remember all of those "types" and "antitypes" and those different classes they placed people into. Those studies used to be "deep." It made you think you were learing something important. Who would have thought it was meaningless, imo.

How many ex-jws poster here now believe in Hellfire, immortality of soul, trinity, etc;
by booker-t ini am just curious about this because although i agree with many of the posters here that the wt society is guilty of many horrible deeds, i still believe they are right when it comes to doctrinal things as i mention.
especially hellfire.
i just don't see how anybody that has studied the bible for many years like many of the ex-jws here can make an about face and go back to believing hellfire.

I attended the session on the book of Daniel at last year's SBL (with John Collins, Michael Segal, Stefan Beyerle, and others), and the discussion was very stimulating.
I have not studied any of these subjects since leaving the borg. Since getting on a few jw sites, I have encountered quite a few terms I am unfamiliar with. The discussions are interesting. I had never heard of the Book of Watchers so I googled it and found some information on Ezra that you mentioned in "The Journal of the Hebrew Scriptures." I intend to read it this week. My question is "What is this SBL session that you attended." Sounds like an interesting session.. Your posts on this thread have been informative.

How do you deal with your "down" time?
by compound complex inby that, i don't mean so much what you do in your leisure time but how you manage the freedom to choose what you will or will not do.
off the wt treadmill, i no longer feel guilty about what is now my neglect of theocratic activity; however, after a nonstop week such as i have just lived through (barely), i am doing nothing, going nowhere, and accepting no new obligations (for the moment).
i can stare at the sky, enjoy the beautiful day and not worry that demons are rushing to fill the void in my empty skull.. you?.

COCO, I have been going to University since about 1992 except for about 5 years that I took off. I finally decided to stop going last January. I feel so free now. I work three night out of the week so the other four nights I do what I want; sleep as long and late as I want. I may get up at 2 am and get on the computer or read and drink wine. I like to say that I am the boss of me. I have been out of the organization since about 1982 so I have forgotten what a hold they had on our lives. I am just now remembering how bad it was by reading what is going on at this site. Yes, it's great to be free from their constant demands on our time and energy. I cannot believe how much more control they want, even telling convention delegates what they can were when they go out to eat. It's wonderful to do as us to do as we please.

A JW book stand just started near my work
by biometrics ina jw brother has setup a bookstand in a shopping mall area (outdoor) near my work.
i must say he's put some effort into creating the counter, and display stand.
at first i thought it was a coroprate stand selling insurance or something, then i saw "awake".. he had a really comfortable chair, and looked bored watching people walk past.. the local gov allow market stalls there three days per week.

I encountered an elderly JW preaching from his car. He was parked close to the entrance of WalMart and called passerbys to his car and gave his semon. I let him talk and then asked him if he knew when the world was going to end. He handed me a small paperback book (Reasoing book?). He told me this book would answer my question. I gave the book back to him. I really wish I had taken it so I could have seen what they said but I didn't. Haven't seen him since.

So ... what happens when we die?
by sacolton inwhat do you personally believe happens after we die?
i don't believe we really know everything about god or the afterlife.
i do believe that we do transform to something beyond our physical comprehension.

As bad as I hate to say this, my gut tells me cofty may be right. I don't want it to be that way. I would like to have an afterlife but am not sure there is one. Therefore, I will live this life to the fullest.
I confess to being confused.
