I'm not offended. I truly despise the JW religion and their leaders. I have love for some of the individuals in this religion. I just wanted to know for myself what they say they have done.

WTC Charity: A Blown Opportunity by WTS
by Room 215 inapart from the noble imperatives of christian charity, the society's rather tepid response to the need for emergency assistance in the aftermath of the wtc tragedy across the harbor illustrates how calcified the thinking of their leadsership has become.. i know, they've accepted a few overnight jw guests and accommodated some others, but when measured against the magnitude of their resources, these meager photo-op and pr-op gestures are tiny.. by failing to sieze the moment, they blew a priceless opportunity to cut a a firebreak across what they must know will be a maelstrom of publice outrage and criticism when the dateline story runs.

Hubby is stuck in New Jersey, can't get home tonight. The bridges are only allowing people to leave New York, not come into it.
I saw the WTC, both towers, collapse. It is unbelievable. People were crying in the streets. My co-workers saw the 2nd airplane crash into the 2nd tower. Everyone at my work knows someone who works there. 50,000 people. Probably 10,000 at least dead.
New York is in shock. People are wonderful here. A report of someone carrying a wheelchair bound person down 80+ floors.
If there is a god who is responsible for this, I say again, FU

Sharon's memorial
by Mulan inthe memorial for my cousin, sharon, who died of breast cancer on september 6, was yesterday.
it was standing room only, and it was obvious how many people really loved her.
i couldn't help but think of all the absent ones, who had been her lifelong friends, and how sad it was that they stayed away.

What I think is so wonderful about this funeral, as someone said before, is that Sharon was celebrated. HER life was spoken of, HER good works were brought out, HER family spoke of their love for her. None of this cold-no-fealing-this-is-what-we-believe BS of Jdubs.
My husband's jw step-father died a few months ago. They only thing they think about is "giving a good witness to the worldly relatives." Maybe 2-3 minutes of the whole "memorial talk" was given to discussing his step-fathers life. And most of that was wasted on how he became a jdub.
I'm so happy that Sharon was comforted in life, and in death, by a truly spiritual person.

Experiences: How you know it ain't the 'truth'
by LDH inplease post your experiences here for any lurkers to read.
when i was a teenager, there was a young lady early 20's who had moved into our cong.
she had a newborn son and had just married her worldly boyfriend, the father of the baby.

I felt it wasn't the truth gradually. Little things.
Like not being allowed to clap when someone was reinstated.
A sister I knew was disfellowshipped because the man she married did not have a scriptual divorce (he lied to her and she had no idea).Family members shunning my critically ill sister-in-law because she is gay. Refusing to lift a hand to help her.
Being lied to by an "Elder". Two friends were dating before one's divorce was final. Discussed this situation privately with an "Elder" on their committee, receiving assurances from him, then 180 degree turn around in their committe meeting. Emotional breakdown of one friend. She was no longer able to pioneer. They couldn't get married in a KH. Why? Because they started dating about a month before his divorce was final.
(As a side note, I would get up and leave the hall when a certain elder had a part or said a prayer. He disgusted me and I didn't care who knew of it).
Then, the big whammo!!!! The internet! Started doing research on JW's at work, couldn't believe my eyes. Showed it to the husband. He and I both took time off work and read Franz's books. Cried, was physically ill, couldn't believe my life had been so wasted. The memorial in 1999 was the last time we went to a "meeting".

We sold bunches of bound volumes and old books on Ebay. Made a bundle.
We were going to burn them, but were afraid that they would not catch fire (this is an old witness myth about "demonized" books LOL)

Lisa, didn't you used to live in NH or CT? You and I had a few run-ins with a girl named Jane on Witnet ;-)
BTW, she has her picture posted over on witnessesonline and she really is a dimwit.
