AWAKE Says We Shouldn't Judge Apostates!
by minimus inthe february 8, 2003 awake has an article entitled:"is there an unforgivable sin".notice the good news for apostates or those who once associated.
"some people who were once faithful christians have purposely drawn away from god, perhaps because of bitterness, pride, or greed, and are now apostate fighters against god's spirit.
they willfully oppose what the spirit is clearly accomplishing.

My uncle was from the deep south and whenever he gave the public talk he'd say "GEEE-ZUSSSSSSSSS" like that. After a couple of dozen of those I'd have to go outside and let the laughter out.

by Yizuman inseems that the page view out number the posters who actually reply to the thread.. my guess is that there's alot of active jws who are still active within' the so called "truth" are visiting this forum and reading all the threads.
i don't blame them for not wanting to reply for fear of being found out.. how many of you were still active when you found a forum like this one and lurked around for a long time?
how many of you left the organization as a result of reading this forum or other forums like it?.

First I'd like to address the original question! I was already out of the org for many years when places like this became available on the internet. Oh how I wish there was something like this when I first left! The mind control continued even though I had left. Finally, it was David Reed's newsletter and Randy Watters' newsletter that helped me see the hypocrisy, failed prophesies, deceit and cult tactics that I was able to rid myself of guilt and fear.
Many continue to follow a faith that celebrates Christmas and Easter, both of which are based on pagan customs
I just love this argument. I mean, I really do. If we were to follow this logic completely, there would be very little we COULD do. Our calendar... months and days... wedding rings... anniversaries... what was so wrong with paganism anyway? It's just another belief. Just because kids like Easter eggs doesn't take away from the fact that Christians celebrate Jesus' resurrection and the hope it brings for all of us. Do you think a little kid clutching a stuffed bunny is thinking about its pagan roots?? Do you think about pagan rituals when you look at your wedding band?
Christians commemorate Jesus' death too, on Good Friday. Unlike JWs, who commemmorate it by passing bread and wine which is to be consumed only by an elite few. That is not Biblical.
Not looking to pick a fight! Just stating my opinion.

HELP!!! Hubby turning home into 'Book Study'
by Skeptically Yours inmy husband, who's a ministerial servant, was approached by an elder and asked if he'd offer our home to become a 'book study' meeting place.. i'm a bit of a loner, and need lots of peace, quiet, privacy, and solitude; plus to boot you all know i'm living this sort of double life, you know, just doing the very minimum to remain a witness.. this is awful!!!!!!!!!!
i can't deal with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
take care!

With all due respect, I think you have a bigger problem than the book study. You must love your hubby very much to do yourself the injustice of being spineless, either that or you are afraid of him.
If he goes ahead and agrees to the study even knowing you don't want it, IMHO that would be a sign of great disrespect for you and borders on abuse. He should have said "OK honey, we won't have it" immediately after hearing your objection and not make you wait to see what he'll do.
HUGS to you and I hope it all works out.

Were you born into the jw faith?
by nakedmvistar inhow many of you on this forum were born into the jw faith?
do you think this put you at a disadvantage when leaving the org.
do you think that someone who becomes a witness later in life would have an easier time adjusting back to a "normal" life?

I was born and raised a JW. I had a horrible childhood, my mother was depressed and life was nothing more than humiliation after humiliation at school (I was in the pariah clique), topped off with humiliating door-to-door work and 5 hours of mind-numbing boring meetings.
To top it off we weren't the most 'theo' family, my father only went on Sunday to placate my mother, and she preferred getting her own territory and dragging me out in service rather than go with the study groups. So I was a pariah at the KH too.
It's interesting how many of us left because we couldn't imagine living forever with only JWs. I would rather be dead, so I left.
It wasn't hard for me to assimilate myself into the "world." I reveled in my freedom, I loved the holidays and singing the national anthem and voting and being like everyone else. The worst thing about being a JW was how abnormal I felt. It was a real relief to become 'normal.' I'm not a pariah anymore.

But what "good news" are they actually preaching?
That in order to survive the coming Great Tribulation(TM) you have to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses, otherwise you'll be annihilated and your eyes picked out by crows (including children.)
That's not such good news for 99.9% of the world's population.

Not intrested in Christmas
by sleepy in.
i'm just not interested in celebriating christmas.maybe the witnesses had that one right.. if i had children i would probably give presents , just so they don't feel left out , thought not having them myself did me no harm , maybe it made me stronger.but christmas is just one big fake pushed by big businessess, i am not their pawn to be played with.. ok you can have a good laught a few drinks and all that but all the while we are being taken advantage of by the comercial world .imagine the money they would lose if their was no christmas.. can't wait for that big turkey tomorrow though.

I like giving and getting presents. They don't have to be expensive, but it's fun to tear off wrapping paper and watch other people's faces as they tear off their wrapping paper and see a present. I don't buy for the sake of buying, I try to choose stuff people would really like. It's a nice feeling.
Sure, there's commercialism, and some people take to extremes. And yes, there are some people I have to buy for because of family political reasons, and yes that sucks. But it doesn't ruin it for me. I make lemonade out of that lemon by trying to find meaningful gifts instead of wrapping up a generic picture frame.
As a raised-JW I like Christmas, I feel like a little kid and so glad I don't have to PRETEND to not want Christmas like I did as a little girl. "Oh no, I don't mind not getting presents, or having a tree. I don't mind standing out not making Christmas cards in art class. I don't mind not being able to hum along at pretty carols. I REALLY don't mind going out door-to-door on Christmas morning and freezing my little skirt-clad butt off while peeking through doors and seeing trees and lights and music and smelling turkey and cinnamon."
NOT!
Merry Christmas to all
Hugs, V
