What is the reasoning used to connect the "Gentile Times" of Luke to the 7 times of Daniel 4? Is it simply the word "times"?

The times of the gentiles
by Freeholyspirit inhttp://lets-watch.com/gentiletimes.html.
they have botched their chronology so bad just to come up with 1914-1918.. this modern day deception concerning the gentile times began in 1823. .
1823 rev john brown realizes that the period is 2520 years long and using erroneous secular dates, believes it started in 604bc which he claims is the accession of nebuchadnezzar.

Even seeing problems with the doctrine, in my experience it took some unfair treatment - both towards myself and others - to really get the wheels in motion.
If not for that, I would probably still be going thru the motions with a few curious academic problems waiting to be solved.
And that is part of the 'unfair treatment': People, elders and COs especially, just going thru the WT authorized motions, mowing good hearted people down in the process, and making robots out of everyone else.

I also appreciate your's and other's comments too. At the very least, if our ideas survive the gauntlet here, we can say that they are OUR ideas or beliefs, rather than something we were just told to believe.
Listening to the various comments here also provides a broadening out of one's viewpoint.

Whacky comments! What the craziest comment you've ever heard?
by toweragent inlast week a sister in my new hall made the following comment,.
"a brother once told me that it is better to be wrong with the organization, than to be right and be on your own without the organization.".
wow.

"A brother once told me that it is better to be wrong WITH the organization, than to be right and be on your own WITHOUT the organization."
And then the conductor said, "How true that is!" And we moved on...
Then whatever is the purpose for them studying the Jeremiah book?
Jeremiah was basically a lone figure trying to do right amidst a whole organization ("Jehovah's earthly organization" - the Jewish nation) that was doing wrong. What if Jeremiah had taken that same attitude? Do any of these people ever use their minds?
Unfortunately, you hear this stuff and you are "floored" and only think of the nonsense of it later.
This week the CO said that when u don't get up for service there's an angel standing by your bed who goes back to Jesus and says "I wanted to go out in service but he wouldn't get up".
How's that for more guilt and pressure?
I'm thinking, 'How's that for juvenile idiocy.' That sounds like something you would tell a toddler.

America cooperated with England when America was the weaker power, and now England does with the US now that it is the weaker power. This cooperation does not suggest equal coexisting rulership of the world.
I am of the opinion that GB-USA do form a historical co-power. But at the same time, I also agree with this point that they have never had an equal partnership. First one, then the other was dominant. So if the definition of "dual world power" requires that they be always equal, then, by that definition they were not.
On the other hand, much of the discussion focuses on military power. Right now, and for some decades there has been a clear distinction between the military power of the two. But I think economic/banking power - not just how much each has, but how much economic controlling power they have - the lines are a bit more blurred.
Also, as mentioned, they have similar ruling/economic philosophies, historical ties, and have together (not equally, of course) presided over a unique time period (call it what you will - "the enlightenment," or "the industrial revolution" - or both). Like the Medes and Persians who were also not always an equal pairing, imo hsitory has a niche carved out for them together.
But I'm like you, its not worth arguing about. But I do appreciate the different perspectives.

Breaking Bread at the Lord's Evening Meal
by Bobcat injust a question to elicit comments on a thought i had never considered before.. r.t. france, writing in the nicnt commentary on matthew says (about the last supper), "in breaking the bread he [jesus] symbolizes his own death .
france seems to indicate that there is some symbolic significance to the breaking of the bread.
he doesn't go into any more detail.

Just a question to elicit comments on a thought I had never considered before.
R.T. France, writing in the NICNT commentary on Matthew says (about the last supper), "In breaking the bread he [Jesus] symbolizes his own death . . ."
France seems to indicate that there is some symbolic significance to the breaking of the bread. He doesn't go into any more detail. And, of course, the bread had to be 'broken' for all to partake of it. But it is interesting that Jesus does the 'breaking' rather than let each disciple break off a piece.
There is very little detail in the gospel accounts concerning this. It doesn't say he broke it into 12 (or 11) pieces. It only says he broke it.
I know that at the KH there is no significance associated with 'breaking the bread.' Often, if not always, the bread is already broken into a number of pieces before the meeting starts.
I was just polling for thoughts to see how others viewed this aspect of the Lord's Evening Meal or if any had any more info about this.
Thanks for any comments.

What Does the Bible REALLY Teach: The Meaning of Your Baptism
by 00DAD inwhat is the meaning of your baptism?
to whom do you belong?
the book, what does the bible really teach?
-

00DAD:
That was an interesting find (i.e. no mention of F&DS or GB).
Here are some other curiosities:
The Bible Teach book says this about the two baptism questions:
*** bh chap. 18 p. 182 par. 21 Baptism and Your Relationship With God ***
The speaker then invites all baptism candidates to answer two simple questions as one way to make a verbal “public declaration” of their faith.
The book makes the questions look like an after thought - "one way to make a verbal declaration."
Yet, at the assembly, right after the questions the speaker will say, "Your affirmative answer to those questions indicates you are qualified to be baptized."
I had a 'run-in' of sorts with a DO about baptism where he finally admitted that the questions are "vows." He used that word, but he was trying not to. I posted about this here (see posts 55 and 56).
Here is another one, although, not so far reaching as baptism:
The phrase "Judgment Day" occurs only in four places in the NWT - Mt 10:15; 11:22, 24; 12:36. "Day of Judgment occurs two times, both in 2nd Peter. But the WT maintains that "Judgment Day" is different from "day of judgment" (although they are exactly the same in Greek).
At any rate, the Bible Teach book has an appendix chapter on "Judgment Day." (pages 213-215) Yet, not one of those verses in Matthew is either quoted or even cited. I find that so odd. How are you going to have a chapter about a Bible subject and never refer to any verse that specifically mentions that subject?
