ECigs contain Nicotine.... Watchtower June 1, 1973 13 "The drug . . . that causes the addiction is nicotine. . . . Within a minute or two after a person ‘takes a drag’ on a cigarette, nicotine is present in the brain. But 20 to 30 minutes after the ‘last drag,’ most of the nicotine has left the brain for other organs . . . . This is just about the time when the smoker needs another cigarette. . . . When there is no nicotine, the body ‘hungers’ for it. So much so that the body sometimes becomes ‘sick’ without it. Withdrawalsymptoms—a sick feeling—begin. . . . Some of these symptoms are drowsiness, headaches, stomach upsets, sweating, and irregular heart beats." 14 Even worldly governments have been moved to issue serious warnings against the danger of tobacco use. Do, then, persons who have not broken their addiction to tobacco qualify for baptism? 15 The Scriptural evidence points to the conclusion that they do not. As has been explained in other issues of this magazine, the Greek word phar·ma·ki´a used by Bible writers and translated "practice of spiritism" or "spiritistic practices" has the initial meaning of "druggery." (Gal. 5:20; Rev. 9:21) The term came to refer to spiritistic practices because of the close connection between the use of drugs and spiritism. Tobacco was also used initially by the American Indians in this way. It can properly be placed, therefore, in the category of addictive drugs like those that provided the source for the Greek term phar·ma·ki´a.

On the silent lambs site they mentioned that the Conti case was the first of EIGHT that they were working in California. If Bill is free to answer, are any of the other cases going to a full trial like the Conti case, and how are they progressing at this time?
Do you have a link to where this is mentioned on Silentlambs website?

With tobacco, does the WTS consider it "wrong" just if you smoke it or is "chewing" tobacco just as bad in their eyes? Thus in this case "smoking" the issue with the WTS.

Even if someone regularly smoked cigarettes made from another plant—be it marijuana, lettuce, corn or something else—inhaling smoke day after day is unnatural. Do you not agree that inhaling any smoke regularly would pollute the lungs and likely could imperil one’s health? So whether the smoke be from tobacco, marijuana, or some sort of nicotineless cigarettes, smoking simply is inappropriate for people who want to live in accord with the counsel at 2 Corinthians 7:1.—Compare Romans 12:1.

g01 7/8 p.9 Drug Abuse—There Is an Answer! ***How Safe Is Marijuana?
A number of countries are considering legalizing marijuana, mainly for medicinal use. The drug has been found to alleviate the nausea caused by chemotherapy, and it evidently helps AIDS sufferers to overcome loss of appetite. It has also been used as a pain reliever.
While there is disagreement about the results of research findings, tests that were reported on in New Scientist magazine have established some of the harmful effects of marijuana.
A Harvard University test compared a group who smoked marijuana daily with a group who used it less often. They found little difference on standard mental tests. However, on one test dealing with adaptability, the heavy marijuana users scored much lower.
Another university tested a group of regular marijuana smokers and a group of cigarette smokers, over a period of 15 years. The marijuana smokers usually had three or four joints a day, while the cigarette smokers had 20 or more cigarettes a day. Equal numbers from both groups suffered from coughing and bronchitis. Examination of the lungs revealed similar cell damage in both groups.
Although the marijuana smokers indulged much less often, it was found that a single joint releases three times as much tar as a cigarette. Furthermore, New Scientist reported: "Marijuana smokers inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer."
In addition, immune cells from the lungs of the marijuana smokers were found to be 35 percent less capable of fighting bacteria than were cells from the cigarette smokers.

Marfan’sSyndrome In the article "Coping With Marfan’s Syndrome—When Joints Dislocate" (February 22, 2001), Michelle says that she takes morphine daily. How can an addictive drug be used by a Christian?
S. D., United States
It would be wrong for a Christian to sue drugs simply for the thrills or fo the highs they produce. However, one who accepts a painkilling narcotic under the direction of a physician because of some medical problem could hardly be called a thrill seeker. Of course, even in circumstances like that, a Christian must weigh the possibility of addition and other harmful side effects from taking such a medication.—ED.

The Governing Body - their own worst enemy!
by cedars ini've been giving some thought recently to what's going on in the minds of the individual governing body members, and what makes them tick.
the process of listening to their talks for my "getting to know you" youtube video series, though draining, has been very enlightening.
i now feel i know some of their individual personalities a little better than i did previously.. then there has been the tumultuous events of 2012. it's been interesting to note the way the governing body has responded to some of these issues, and how in most cases their responses have been woefully inadequate or even counter-productive as regards their long-term interests.. for example:.

The only question posed by a current BOE to a newly appointed man before the announcement of his appointment at the congregation meeting is:
"Is there anything going on in your life that would disqualify you as serving as an elder that the rest of the BOE could not know about?"
I highly doubt anyone has ever come right out at that point and said, "Well you know there is this one thing......."

Could the New Light About the Faithful&Discrete Slave Open the Governing Body to more Lawsuits?
by frankiespeakin incan a skillful lawyer use this information in court as evidence of lack of fullfillment of fuduciary duty on thier part since they claim to be the only true religion and obedience is a life and death matter.. just saying could not the governing body just be falling into a trap of thier own making and not even be consciously realizing it?
and maybe consciously and unconsciously thier legal team is pushing them that way conspiracy theorys could take many turns on that one.. how about conspiracies that operate in the collective unconscious level, conspirering against them unconscious to them making themselve thier own worst enemy..

I'm not aware of what forms they use, but "never" is a questionable claim to make. Updating policies and forms is trivial (unless the legal dept are compleat (sic) eediots (sic)).
True enough. Never say never. Yes there are report forms required to be sent to the WBTS. For this directive to be ignored would require the cooperation of 3 elders taking the stance that they refuse to communicate with orders from Mother. Granted there have been elders that simply refused to follow these orders and some have even gone directly to the Police with allegations confirmed or not. However that rogue conduct is met with swift judicial action and the elder is removed, reproved or simply cast out of the congregation.
Even in the event of 3 elders choosing to bybass headquarters directive, reports would be generated in congregation files openly reviewed by the traveling Circuit Overseer. In that case you would have 3 elders on the chopping blocks.
I suppose I should say it is highly unlikely that the BOE would not send a very specific report(as it is generated by the WBTS with Q&A) to the WBTS.
So, the WTS' awareness of allegations or even abuse (as statuatory rape) doesn't mean they are dealing with predators. The Condi case involved gross negligence such that it was relatively easier to prove.
That is exactly right. They have a database of tens of thousands alleged and convicted sex abusers in their possesion locked away and only a miniscule percentage as ever faced exposure or been offered up to authorities who will properly prosecute the individual predator.
The WBTS certainly DOES NOT DEAL with these predators as mandated by law.

Healthworker,
Thank you for posting this drama as it unfolds. There are so many going through the same pattern of tribunals all around the globe. It would be amazing if they could all be collected here in detail. By the courage of others we are all strengthened. I look forward to hearing more from you.

That's EXACTLY the point of the new policy: it gives WTS an excuse, a plausible legal deniability, IF the local elders don't notify them of a problem. If they didn't notify the WTS, the elders would more likely stand alone.
However the WBTS will never be able to avail themselves of that avenue of scapegoat because according to long standing policy, all bodies of elders are required to file a report for all matters of sex abuse- alleged, denied, confirmed or otherwise to the Watchtower. There are specific forms used currently by BOE to forward this information. How could the WBTS ever claim they were not alerted by localized BOEs?
