  what i want to know is, what am i supposed to believe now?

  i was brought up a jw but i know that so many of their teachings and doctrines are completely false.

  IW, I do not know Ray Franz personally (and that is entirely my loss). I don't know if he has ever heard of me or my little (now destroyed) WTS Quotes web site.
  
  Frankly, I don't know why Ray's endorsement would change your mind, but that is none of my business.
  
  As far as I know, Ray has never posted here. I wonder how much he uses the internet in general; I suspect he is more likely to spend his spare time reading a book (or writing one!) than surfing the web and posting on discussion forums.
  
  Furthermore, I don't know if Ray knows about the merits of Lawrence's case. Not sure what he could add to the conversation (although it would be WONDERFUL to see him here posting), unless all you are looking for is a Superstar Endorsement.

  Worst case scenario: missionaries are put in prison (and I assume Chinese prisons are NOT exactly the Ritz-Carlton!) and possible sentenced to death. Either way, the Missionaries, and every other JW (thanks to the inevitable feature article in Witchpower and Asleep!) has their persectuion complex verified. The cult's grip gets tighter.

  If my encouragement to get people to help out were perceived by you as a demand, I apologize. That was not my intention.
  
  As for Island "Straw Man Argument" Woman: If *THAT* was what this was about, you would be absolutely correct. Fortunately (for Lawrence) the issues you obsessively focus on are NOT what this case will turn on (unless, of course, the WTS attorneys are as successful as you are at subterfuge and misdirection).
  
  As I said before: if you don't feel comfortable donating, then simply do not.
  
  I, like many others here, know Lawrence in "real life", recognize the merits of the case (IW's red herrings not withstanding) and are comfortable with contributing.
  
  So, for those of you that "are going to get around to contributing" and can afford it, and have already decided that it is a good cause, but you will "do it tomorrow" -- please don't put it off too much longer.

  she found an envelope with my name and "personal & confidential" typed on it taped to the door of our apartment.

  i asked her to open it and read it, and evidently there is some evidence of apostacy that they want to review with me this saturday (4-21-06) at 7:30 pm.. the funny thing is that i have not been to a meeting since 1993, the last time i was at a circuit assembly or district convention was 1995!

  Good point. We had an "Anointed" in my hall when I was a kid. Considering how the offical doctrine is that Jerhorver reveals his truths to the BOrg via "the anointed remnant", it was interesting to consider that Bro. Anointed received his spiritual food the same way the rest of us lowly peons did: he read about it in the Watchtower magazine!
