alright it has only taken me 25 years but i have worked out how they get you to believe.. in all the publications they always present both sides of the story in a logical and often scientific way.
this makes you feel that you don't have to research further because you already know the other side.. the truth is they don't have the truth.

I can only partially agree. the "other side" of the argument is always presented in a PSEUDO-scientific, logically-FALLACIOUS way.
To those not educated or keen on either the Scientific Method or on proper logic (and the other side of the coin logical fallacies) it may appear the both sides have been presented.
To be completely fair, they utilize pseudo-science and logical fallacies when talking about JW beliefs also, so it isn't a one-sided thing.

So let me get this straight.
A farmer in montana, without any formal training in calendars or timekeeping (or, it appears, Judaism) has re-discovered some sort of top-secret ancient calendar.
And because of this, he (and his wife) is being oppressed by mysterious forces that want to keep it silent (the modern day calendar-cartel, I suppose)?
OKAY..................
Maybe this person has stumbled onto something of such earth-shaking consequences that a top-secret level in society is taking formal steps to stop them.
Or maybe this is a nut-job with both delusions of grandeur and persecution (which is the classical definition of paranoia).
As Kent Brockman (news anchorperson on TV's The Simpsons) says "Only time will tell."
(In the meantime, my money is on the later option).
over the last year after leaving the organization, i have done much research and read many books on the topic of jw's.
i have found peace in the fact that i truely believe that it is a false religion and that i want nothing to do with it ever again.
my problem is that i have been through, like most of you alot of emotions such as fear, anger, stupidity, (that i could allow myself to get involved so deeply in something), and many other feelings too.
Like many others, I too felt anger and rage and expressed it in the form of incivility.
However, I now make a concious effort to remember: THESE PEOPLE ARE VICTIMS.
It is not always easy, and the anger (over the wasted years filled with their lies and logical fallacies) sometimes comes back, but this is what I do. I ask myself "How would I want my mother treated?"
You see, I love my Mom (of course), and I try to approach every (now very rare) interaction with a JW from the perspective "This could be my Mom. She is a victim. She need help."
How would I want my Mom to be treated? With respect and civility. With kind words and gentle (but solid) logic.
And remember, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. I know, I sound like Mary Poppins. But there is another reason for me to do this: I don't fit the bill of "vile, hate-filled apostate" (the way the brand all us former members) and so by my actions I prove yet another thing the WT is wrong about.

somebody has been trying to send me viruses via the account addy but so far i have been savvy and they haven't been able to cause damage.
fortunately for me, i have 3 other email accounts.

The thing that strikes me is that they are, in a way, correct (I can not believe I just said that) .
I mean, music can be very emotional and be used to sway opinion... or should I say, more succintly, "indoctrinate".
I wonder if they realize that the "dark danger" of music is being used by them for that exact reason: to indoctrinate, to sway emotion, to bend personalities to their will.
As usual, a study of JWs results in a huge mass of contradictions and double-think. If someone else's music may be (even in an archaic, obsure manner) related to something "wrong" or "improper" then that music is dangerous. But WT music, which has the stated purpose of "drawing brothers together into one mind, one thought, one language" is not wrong.
OK Beans, now let's sing Song 110: We Thank You Jehovah (I know it's your favorite).

I was never in Bethel (thank goodness) so I always had the Rank & File perspective that Bethel, and Bethelites, could do no wrong and that only the most "clean", most "spiritual" brothers were there and that any wrongdoing, if/when it rarely happened, was immediately uncovered (since Jahoobee keeps his house clean) and corrected/removed.
Reading stories like yours, and learning that a sizable percentage were "less clean" than I was when I was a young man, really is an eye-opener. I think this is an important part of deconstructing the myth that the bOrg portrays.

Well, don't do what Beans did. He was in, stayed low for about, oh, one day, then quickly blew his cover by asking normal, intelligent questions and quoting WT material.
Oh, yes, they have a rule there "you are not allowed to quote the Society's publications because it is a violation of copyright". Yes, you read me correctly. They have never heard of "Fair Use" and when Beans quoted the some information that indicated quotes were perfectly legal, he got a warning.
