i remember in one of my bethel entrants school classes, the instructor commenting on the events that went down in genesis chapter 3 and commenting that one of the reasons why the serpent was so persuasive was because he "evidently" partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.
because he had taken such a course, he could persuasively convince eve to do the same.
i can't remember what source material he used to support this assertion.

I have just had the sad task of taking my dog Shep, to the Vet. He had to be put to sleep. We had Shep 14 yrs. He was a collie/cross with a lovely temperament.
I shall miss his sad eyes and his velvet ears and his eagerness to please and have fun, he was a real companion.
Goodbye Shep

the uk government has announced that it is very serious about making it compulsory for citizens to carry an id card in view of the risk of subversive activity increasing.
it seems to me that this is the thin edge of the wedge.
i spent years trying to get out of a repressive organisation, and then even more years getting that organisations brain-washing out of my head.

I can see that already you have got a false Identity card.
Might it have been wiser though, to have a card with at least some likeness to yourself?
Unless your a cross dresser?

some scattered thoughts about the granting or denial of privileges of service as a control mechanism:.
this method of persuasion involving reward or punishment is so deeply ingrained in watchtower function, it is second nature.
although sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant, everyone from new bible study to traveling overseer is subconsciously aware of the possible limiting of his official opportunities to serve god and his brothers.. .

Your observations made me think about how the congregations are taught, on how to deal with wrongdoing.
Whatever the nature of the wrongdoing, the counsel and admonition is always the same, namely: DO MORE BIBLE STUDY!
So bible study became a type of punishment!
Which of course, is true<G>

``because the world scene is always changing, a family head may be inclined to spend an excessive amount of time on the job, with a view to building up his financial reserves for unforeseen crises.''.
do they seriously endorse living from paycheck to paycheck as spiritually meritorious, a responsible mode of living for heads of families with mortgage/rent payments, child support, health insurance, car payments, utility bills, a food budget, etc.
all this after they ``stack the deck'' against self-sufficiency and independence for the average jw famnily head by discouraging university education or other forms of specialized education so vital in today's complex economy.. that's why so many, even while professing loyalty and submission to the fds quietly come to terms on their own.

Yes, and I was one of those suckers, that never took out a pension because I thought I would never need one!
I saw it as a lack of faith" In Jehovah's promises" to invest in anything but Jehovah's kingdom.
I still feel quite stupid for believing things like that.

...suffering was not so bad.
his "perfection" and understanding of the situation would certainly have mitigated his suffering.. his death was not really death, not in any meaningful sense.
it was a 15 second nap, using bible reasoning.
Giving up a mortal body for an immortal one and knowing for certain that you will ressurected within a couple of days. Is hardly a sacrifice of great proportions, is it?
Not wishing to seem ungrateful and all that.

i am writing to ask for your help.
as many of you may know of the recent trial of erica rodriguez where manuel beliz was convicted of child molestation.
a new development has happened that in my opinion is absolutely outrageous.. the prosecuting attorney gary brueher has told erica today she is not welcome at the sentencing hearing.

You're still reading things back to front then?

Bridgette and all
It is a interesting subject.
I was watching a documentry last night about how some scientists are begining to find that our mental processes, can affect things outside the confines of our human brain. It showed how prayer does appear to work. They were not saying that God was doing this, but there does seem to be something in operation here that is challenging conventional scientific thought.
