  How Do OLD AGE JWs Feel?

  i just want to know if jws that have been in the "truth" all their lives, having given all for the "kingdom" die in peace or whether in the autumn and winters of their lives, they are stung by nagging intrusive thoughts... "i have given my whole life to this organisation and where is the new system?".

  i ask because these people were taught they were in "the last days" when they grew up many decades or even a century ago.

  how can someone go that long believeing it was going to be tommorrow?

  Hi Ballistic

  I knew a number of "old timers" in my former congregation.

  They would regularly attend meetings, yet mostly they became quiet during Q+A items and particularly during the watchtower study.
  Often they were ignored because they no longer were in the forefront of activity.
  I believe the continual repetitve talk about better times ahead took toll on these poor souls.Their spirits were slaughtered.
  The Watchtower's trumpet of "the one that ENDURES to the end will be saved.", I think was the only thing keeping them going.

  every now and then when watchtower officials feel the rank and file members are begining to drift through apathy, they introduce special leaflet campaigns.remeber the armaggeddon tract?.

  well how about everyone, swamping the watchtower with our mailing campaign?.

  any ideas for a tract title?.

  reliance on the watchtower for understanding, often lead to uncertainty in the congregation of jws, as to what is acceptable behaviour and what is not.. example: some years ago i recall one sister who was troubled by the fact, that she, had happened upon her daughter while out visiting with friends one day.

  it troubled her(conscience) because she wasnt sure if she should have spoken to her or not.

  her daughter was dissfellowshiped.

  Life in a small town

  we live in a small town in england where for 30 years we were stalwarts of the local congregation, and then walked away, not df'd or da'd.

  there is virtually only one main street, and the reaction of the jws to us is a lesson in human behaviour.

  some ostentatiously shun us, some "love bomb" us, and one elder whom we have known since he was 10 years old, actually walked away when we spoke to him.

  Example: some years ago I recall one sister who was troubled by the fact, that she, had happened upon her daughter while out visiting with friends one day. It troubled her(conscience) because she wasn’t sure if she should have spoken to her or not. Her daughter was dissfellowshiped. she felt the need, to speak to elders in the congregation, she was directed to appropriate Watchtowers.
  This person was sincere in wanting to do the right thing(in the watchtower's eyes), but natural affection between mother and child, had clearly been clouded over by the Watchtower "control mechanism" which spells out rights and wrongs on matters like these.

  if the rank and file members of jehovahs witnesses reject the watchtower's thinking on bible doctrine in some way, they are considered apostate.. yet the governing body of j.ws, themselves have rejected teachings of previous governing body members who have long since died and have proceeded to change interpreatation on things many times over,from russell to fred franz.

  guess what they call it..........apostasy?.
