We had an elder who had a family, was the service overseer, seemed to have more than enough money to rarely work but enough to live and pioneer from time to time.
He was a travelling salesman but never really seemed to be away from home. Turns out one of his business calls in another area was a witness too

Service Overseer Elder hadn't been out that way for years. Just was submitting fake invoices for milage. He got fired and reported to the CO but
nothing was ever done about it and the brother still serves as an Elder in good standing.

IMHO the average dub will walk away from that watchtower study thinking that investing in stocks is wrong. Why don't they give examples of people
who have made a lot of money in the stock market to balance things out.
You are correct that Alex took on more risk than he could afford by trading on margin.(if Alex even exists?) The problem with examples like this is that
they demonize investing and saving for the average dub equating it with being in bed with Satan.

To my knowledge, the WTS has never said "you can't" or "don't" invest, it has simply cautioned that doing so carries certain risks and not to invest in a way that demonstrates greed. Sorry, this just doesn't strike me as conspiritorial or hypocritical.

This came up with a friend of mine that is fed up with being harassed by one of the elders. My friend still believes it is the truth but I don't know for how long. My friend told me that there needs to be some kind of recall mechanism for abusive elders if the congregation doesn't want them as elders anymore. Good luck I told her!
