Meeting announcement for emergency contact info of non-JW friends & relatives (?)
by LongHairGal ini just saw this post on reddit and can hardly believe it.. if i remember correctly years back they told you not to have anything to do with non-jw friends or relatives.
they discouraged you from bothering with non-jw family and to avoid them on holidays!!
i needlessly missed out on some delicious holiday meals with people who genuinely cared about me.

Since when do salesmen care about existing customers?
The whole Jehovah’s Witness religion is set up to recruit and sell. They still haven’t totally shaken the door to door salesman business model and the real estate flipping business.
Old people can’t pour concrete or pound nails and many aren’t good salesmen. They’re a liability, unless they have money. Those are the ones that they cater to if they think they can get a chunk of inheritance money.
In our congregation there was this old bachelor who lived in a modest home but owned millions in real estate and had a sizeable bank account. One of the elders helped him out for many years hoping that the congregation would get the money. When the old guy finally died he had given it all to his worldly nieces and nephews. Lol

Annual service report - yet another analysis - big trouble for the WTS
by FFGhost inthere's already been a couple of threads on the 2021 report with insightful comments, but i'm vain enough to want to start my own topic with some additional thoughts..... as others on the other thread noted, it's useful to compare the 2021 numbers not only to 2020 but also 2019 (the last non-pandemic report).. there are some really troubling (if you're a wt headquarters guy) news in the latest report.. 1) baptisms plummet.
2021 - 171,393. baptisms dropped 20% in 2020, and 30% more in 2021. the total drop from 2019 to 2021 is an amazing 44%.. one could argue that without in-person assemblies and conventions you'd expect baptisms to drop.
but....if someone really wants to get baptized, jws will find a way.

The Poor the Wealthy and the Middle Class
by Simon inthe poor spendthe middle-class savethe wealthy invest.
the unique circumstances of the lockdown and stimulus checks has highlighted these differences in stark ways.. on one hand, you have jumps in sales and valuation of companies like foot locker and nike, as people spend their "free" government money on sneakers.
they blow it on useless tat.

Government backed bonds based on currency printed up by the federal reserve don’t seem like a great investment plan right now unless the yields go higher. In addition the yields mean nothing if real inflation (not the CPI bs numbers that they feed us) is higher than the yield. You are still going backwards
The other issue that investors don’t see is taxation. RRSPs (Canada) are tax deductible when you buy them, but tax payable when you redeem them. The government has this all figured out so that when you cash in your investments they can tax you on them and deduct some of the money from your government pension.
If I had to do it over again I would have bought collectibles (sports cards, ertyl toys, hot wheels , comic books) when I was younger. Also maybe some gold and silver coins. If you keep these in their original package I don’t see this as being riskier than the stock market. The greatest benefit of these kinds of assets is they are out of the monetary system. You can sell them for cash and that money is yours. All of it.
