WT Elders school: Look how cute that kindly old elder is! Too bad the Talmud says we have to stone our victim anyway
by sir82 inmore haphazard thougths on the recently concluded elder school..... a big chunk of time was spent on a video which traced a judicial case, all the way from the confession to the elders through the decision to disfellowship the guy.. here is a very brief synopsis of the video:.
tearful late-teen or early-20's publisher confesses to 2 elders that he committed fornication with a "worldly girl" who is now preganant and wants to marry him.
the elders give him some "homework" to do prior to his judcial committee - read psalm 51 and an old wt article.

The 1919 Date

Can someone please give me a neutral explanation of the date 1919? Can the WT prove 1919 from the Bible? Or, is it more of a probability.
What about this quote? It seems like it is saying 1919 is probable, rather than fact:
*** wt chap. 14 p. 131 par. 8 How Does Jehovah Direct His Organization? ***
8 Since the slave class was loyally doing the Master’s work at his invisible return in 1914, there is evidence that it was entrusted with enlarged responsibilities in 1919. The years since then have been the time for a global witness to the Kingdom, and a great crowd of worshipers of Jehovah is being gathered with a view to their preservation through the great tribulation. (Matthew 24:14, 21, 22; Revelation 7:9, 10) These too need spiritual food, and it is served to them by the slave class. To please Jehovah, we therefore need to accept the instruction he provides through this channel and to act in harmony with it. -

Tax-free Religion
by turtleturtle ini have never understood why religions consider their tax-free status being taken away an attack on their religious freedom.
religious freedom and tax freedom are two completely different things.
if anything, wouldn't removing tax-free status from religion hinder these large corporations from engaging in questionable activity and being allowed a veil to protect individual members?.

I talked to an Elder recently. He mentioned the recent KM school for Elders. I proved to be a bit nosy. He said they showed a series of real-life scenarios regarding the way Elders handle congregational matters. One example he gave was a video that provided good/bad examples of what an Elder might do if a Sister, who just lost her husband in death, broke down crying during the song.
He stated that the KM meeting lightly warned Elders regarding being insensitive and mentioning the understanding regarding "no marriage for the resurrected" to the grieving sister. According to him, the KM school stated something along the lines of "We don't know that for certain, and we are just imperfect humans interpreting scripture".
Another doctrine change?

Thanks jwfacts. I appreciate your polite comments regarding my post. I also appreciate your site. It was the second site (and the main one) that opened my eyes (the first one being quotes-watchtower.co.uk)
@ blacksheep: I have verified everything I read on "apostate" website. I remember telling a non-baptized but raised JW friend that "I will only look at WT material I can verify on my own. Scans can be messed with". I was scared of the possibility of photoshop (I don't blame myself - just skeptical). I started collecting old bound volumes, brochures, books, etc. Now I can verify everything!
Some JWs are WAY to gullible and believe everything they read online, often times because they are pissed about something in the ORG. Luckily, my parents encouraged me to get a college degree. With graduate degree under my belt, I have learned, in schoo,l HOW to research. That is the best thing college taught me - independent though process and research methods!

MW Dictionary defines forbidden as:
: not permitted or allowed
Wasn't Golden Age issue written by a variety of contributors, unlike the Watchtower? The article is written by a Mrs. Maygrove. Can we be sure that this wasn't just her opinion, and not a firm doctrinal matter that all JWs were to follow?
