Hi sweetie,
You are getting great advice here, and here is my input: be careful not to judge your life by JW standards! Growing up JW meant that I was surrounded by "friends" and when I made my own way, I got depressed because I didn't think that I had enough. The truth is that I never really had any JW friends, even though dozens professed to be. So take it slow, and don't be shy. If you meet someone you think you'd like as a friend, ask them to do something fun. If they say no, that's the worst they can say.
And keep coming back here. We've all been where you are now.
Peace,
Jessi

By the pricking of my thumbs....
by Xander in...some ancient wisdom this way comes?
pulling over from another thread.... i'm curious how many have dabbled in witchcraft/spiritism after leaving the jws.
or, perhaps, before joining.. i'm curious what experiences have been had.

Hi! I read the Witch's Bible Compleat and a ton of other related material a few years ago, but it wasn't for me. I'm pretty much into the "great spirit" mentality and believe in spirits in everything, much like the Indians. And I believe in Karma and fate too.
It's the only thing that makes sense to me, as far as the "GOD" thing goes. -

I registered to vote as soon as I turned 18. I've voted in all elections over the last six years. I follow the old motto that if you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain. I voted for Ralph Nader in the last election (ducking).

Is anyone on the forum from Illinois?
by Leander inthis site has been a source of tremendous encouragement for me.
i've been able to truly learn quite a bit since i've started coming here.
i've also found the courage that i need which will help me walk away from the jw organization in the very near future.

Hi Leander,
I'm not from Illinois, but I am from Iowa, almost right on the border. Chicago isn't too far away. I haven't found ANYONE on this board that is any closer to me. Perhaps sometime my husband and I could see you when we visit Chicago. Or, we could have an Apostafest. Tough luck about the wife and family. My family is divided over the religion as well.
Take care,

Why do you care if your ex-wife has her picture and email on this site? Are you an embittered stalking ex-husband? Oh wait, you're just a rank and file who went through all the trouble of registering and making a thread. You remind me of all the reasons I left the organization... gosh you stumbled me all over again.

Ex JW Down and Outs.
by refiners fire ina large proportion of the ex jws i know and stay in contact with are pretty much down and out.. i stay in contact with 4 from my past.. out of the 4:.
3 of them are long term unemployed.. 3 of those have psychiatric problems.. 2 of them dont have a stable relationship.. only 1 of them is a reasonable financial success.. my perception of the ex dub world is one of destroyed lives and, too a large degree, hopelessness.i base this perception on those ex dubs i know.
course, they are all hard core apostates.

The JWs set you up for failure if you leave. You can do a lot of drugs and screw around a LOT before you realize that you can think for yourself. A lot of my destructive behavior in my teen years was my unconsious self doing what was "expected" of me - killing myself with bad habits. It was like they were pointing at me and telling their kids "this is what happens when you leave Jehovah". The JWs always loved to ask my Dad what I was doing when the answers were juicy. Now that I am better off (wonderful husband, excelling in college at 24, great friends and most of all - HAPPINESS) than most of them, they don't want to hear about me.
It's all about knowing what YOU need. Not what they tell you that you need. -

Deleted Because Boss is DF JW
by VitoJW ini am new here.
tho i have lurked, this is my first real post.. i was doing "personal research" for the last 5 years, tho was helped along recently when i was deleted as an elder because i work for a company owned by a disassociated jw.
there is no real definitive info in print, other than the infamous 9/15/81 wt, but the co held a mini-crusade and got me axed.. nothing personal,.... just business.

Here's my 2 cents:
My dad and his boss are best friends and JW. His best friend stopped attending meetings and doesn't believe any longer. My dad convinced him to just "drift" away so he doesn't get DF (and so he can continue to be friends with him and work for him). My dad says he doesn't know what he'll do if Troy gets DF'ed but at least he isn't going to automatically shun him. -

Modesty in Dress and Grooming - May KM
by expatbrit inok you slutty and independent slobs, pay attention.
how many instances of loaded language and mind-control techniques can you spot in the following article from the may 2002 km?
whoever gets the most wins a brown suit from goodwill.. modesty in dress and grooming- km may 2002.

They approach the "modest dress" issue from the prospective of appearing different from the "world". The issue is a lot broader than that bullsh*t. What they really don't want is the ugly people to be more noticeable. If you dress everyone in lumpy poop-colored clothing, they ALL look ugly. And it shoots sex appeal right out of sight.

Dateline story
by Smitty inwe can probably forget the dateline story for a while.
if it came out now, jw's would look like saints in comparison to the catholics.
at least jw's delete the servants and not move them from congregation to congregation.

Hi, I think Amazing's statistics are GRRRRREAT. It helps the less knowledgeable of us see the whole picture. Just my two cents...:)
