I was interested in how many of you took up higher education after leaving the JWs, and how old you were etc. I started college at age 23 (still enrolled at 24), my mother got her GED at 35 - disfellowshipped and started college at 40 - and will graduate at 45 from the University of Florida in June. My inactive sister is a freshman in college, right on time.
My JW brother has two kids and washes windows. His wife cleans.
My dad has a respectable blue-collar job, but his boss is his best friend (JW).
I feel a little out of the loop because I am so much older than the other students, did anyone else experience that?

My story
by ConnieLynn ini have actually been on this board for a few months and never really posted how i ended up here.
maybe it would be healthy,,.
i was raised as a witness, my dad was an elder and my mom vacation pioneered, eventually she was an auxiliary pioneer, so witness activities were always going on.

It's so great when your family wakes up, isn't it? My sister and mom followed me out of the "truth" too. It makes it normal again.

ICE COLD BEER..bottles,cans or on tap
by OUTLAW ini`m sitting here in front of the computer with a nice cold bottle of molson canadian beer.i don`t drink canned beer unless i`m camping deep in the forest.its easyer to pack, and cans dont explode(bottles will)if your going up a rough mountain road.i prefer my beer stored in a bottle,i think the taste is a lot crisper.so how do you prefer your favorite beer?bottles, cans or on tap served in a frosty mug..

A dubbie next door.
by Marilyn inmy next door neighbours have a dubbie come and trim their trees every year.
he has come to know me as a lovely lady (acting is my greated gift) who has some jw connections.
it doesn't appear to have entered his head that i might be an............ apostate!

They can find you anywhere, even me - out in the middle of the Iowa countryside. I told them I was an apostate, you should have seen those women run - like I was contagious or something! That, and the fact that my two German Shepards don't like witnesses...
It happens to the best of us.

Why the hell do I have this pathetic life?
by Nicolas ini' so tired of this.

Hi sweetie,
You are getting great advice here, and here is my input: be careful not to judge your life by JW standards! Growing up JW meant that I was surrounded by "friends" and when I made my own way, I got depressed because I didn't think that I had enough. The truth is that I never really had any JW friends, even though dozens professed to be. So take it slow, and don't be shy. If you meet someone you think you'd like as a friend, ask them to do something fun. If they say no, that's the worst they can say.
And keep coming back here. We've all been where you are now.
Peace,

By the pricking of my thumbs....
by Xander in...some ancient wisdom this way comes?
pulling over from another thread.... i'm curious how many have dabbled in witchcraft/spiritism after leaving the jws.
or, perhaps, before joining.. i'm curious what experiences have been had.

Hi! I read the Witch's Bible Compleat and a ton of other related material a few years ago, but it wasn't for me. I'm pretty much into the "great spirit" mentality and believe in spirits in everything, much like the Indians. And I believe in Karma and fate too.
It's the only thing that makes sense to me, as far as the "GOD" thing goes. -

X-JW's what are ur views in politics & civi...
by Spartacus ini'm really into politics and current events.
i'm more of the libertarian type.
i voted bush the last election, clinton before.

I registered to vote as soon as I turned 18. I've voted in all elections over the last six years. I follow the old motto that if you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain. I voted for Ralph Nader in the last election (ducking).

Is anyone on the forum from Illinois?
by Leander inthis site has been a source of tremendous encouragement for me.
i've been able to truly learn quite a bit since i've started coming here.
i've also found the courage that i need which will help me walk away from the jw organization in the very near future.

Hi Leander,
I'm not from Illinois, but I am from Iowa, almost right on the border. Chicago isn't too far away. I haven't found ANYONE on this board that is any closer to me. Perhaps sometime my husband and I could see you when we visit Chicago. Or, we could have an Apostafest. Tough luck about the wife and family. My family is divided over the religion as well.
Take care,

Why do you care if your ex-wife has her picture and email on this site? Are you an embittered stalking ex-husband? Oh wait, you're just a rank and file who went through all the trouble of registering and making a thread. You remind me of all the reasons I left the organization... gosh you stumbled me all over again.
