I am so angry I am sick to my stomach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Ravyn ini just had a jw come to my door and i had to threaten her to get her to leave!
i told the woman right off i was 'apostate' and had no intention of changing it.
she kept asking me personal questions which i told her were none of her business and she said she would have the elders come by and i told her that if they came by the better be wearing bullet proof vests!

Please calm down!!!!
I can entirely understand and sympathize with your position. I do not have any relationship with my brother and nephews because of the Jehovah's Witnesses cult and it's beliefs. I was born into the religion and when I exited they began spreading rumors about me calling me an "apostate" and then alleged that I was dealing in illegal activities to have nice things.
As Vivamus said, they are not worth getting that upset over. Your blood pressure, health, sanity, and freedom (you did threaten her life) are just not worth it.
Calmly request to be placed on the Do-Not-Call list. Post a "No Trespassing" sign or "No Jehovah's Witnesses are permitted to trespass on private property" sign on your door. That should keep them off. If they knock anyway, then they are breaking the law and you are justified in filing a lawsuit and possibly winning some money.
I know it is hard to think rationally when it is something so personal. Do not let them get to you. That is what they want to do.

Well I am watching the news here in Orlando and they just showed pictures of both of them.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand the rationale behind the decision, but again the United States government is the largest hypocrite in the world.
"Do not show pictures of US soldiers killed in combat, it violates the Geneva Convention and is morally reprehensible"
meanwhile we will publicly display pictures of the bodies of leaders of the Iraq regime. Don't mind us. Do as we say, not as we do.

I have a question --about The Photos of Kobe Victim
by JT inwell i just got some photos of the young lady, the net is truly a dangerous place.
her email address , home address, phone number, even the tax accessment on her folks home.
how many bedrooms , bathrrom, the sq footage of the house and lot, the taxes they paid, etc.

If I were you I would be very cautious about lending credibility to photos plastered on the Internet complete with home address, phone numbers, tax assessments, home buyer info, etc. when the rest of the entire American media has not revealed even her name.
Sounds like a generated email hoax to me, or a boyfriend who is getting revenge on an ex by forwarding information about someone he dislikes.
Until this is confirmed, it will remain exactly what it is currently...
Speculation and unconfirmed rumors.

Kudos to those who see right through the WT formula of scare tactics and horror stories to stir the loyal JW members into a frenzy to believe the end is "right around the corner, imminent, and any day now" and to peddle those magazines.

it seems like i don't "fit" anywhere.

Should the U.S. Release Photos of the Hussein Son's?
by Funchback inmy *personal* opinion is that they should because the people of iraq will probably require some proof.
i don't have any interest in seeing the photos but i believe that their photos will spread throughout the internet and the news media and curiosity will eventually cause me to peek at the photos.
don't know why i would have interest in seeing a couple of lifeless bodies though.

I, like Elsewhere, cannot help but remember a few short months ago how the United States government was crying foul when the Iraqis displayed United States soldiers killed in combat.
If we are to hold our enemies to a certain level of conduct, we ourselves should be willing to do the same.
Now the situation is reversed. I sincerely hope that they do not make this public. If they choose to post pictures and video for public consumption, then it will just be another example of the blatant hypocrisy of the United States government.

Moral absolutes
by Aztec ini keep saying i am going to start a thread on this topic so here goes.... what, if anything, is always morally wrong?
murder, rape, incest?
how much do you think your belief, or lack thereof, in a higher power influences your opinion?.

I don't think people are understanding what is being said. No one is saying that a crime is not being committed. All we are saying is that you cannot, with 100% absolute certainty, say that any specific action (rape, murder, etc.) is always and forever wrong. Therefore there are no moral absolutes. [parentheses mine]
Even our legal system understands this. There is no crime where they skip the trial and go right to punishment. Extenuating circumstances happen.
No one here is saying that those guilty of crimes should not be punished!
Summed up briefly and precisely. No need for further explanation.
No problem Thunder. I apologize if anything I said offended you.

Some people's belief systems are so strong that they refuse to understand. Thanks for calling me a "waste of skin" Thunder Rider, I genuinely appreciate it. No one insulting you.
I will illustrate another example so perhaps some of you can comprehend.
A region is at war. Picture in your mind something similar to the violence and cruelty of Vietnam. Soldiers are conquering the town, and a platoon of men who serve the enemy side raid a home. Of course they are heavily armed having engaged in combat, so to attempt to fight them would be futile. They see a beautiful teenage girl in this family and unfortunately desire to use her for sexual purposes. It is obvious they want to have their way with her. They ask for the girl, and make it painstakingly clear that if they are denied they will kill the entire family. Is it morally wrong for the girl to give in to unwanted, forced sexual intercourse to save her family? An instance in which a rape saved the lives of people? Ethics itself teaches that people must act for the greater good of the majority, and no matter what, different people's opinions are going to vary on this subject.
Expatbrit explained it best in his most recent post.
Something else that occured is that it is very easy to confuse an action with a label for an action.
Take rape for example. Rape is not actually an action. Rather it is a label for a specific occurence of an action that fits certain criteria. The action is sexual intercourse.
In order to make a moral judgement on a specific occurence of sexual intercourse, we ask questions that will shed light on the context and circumstance of that specific occurence. Questions such as: what were the ages of the participants? Was the act mutually consensual? What are the personal circumstances of the participants as respect to relationships with others etc?
Once we have this individual information, we then assign a moral label to the specific occurence of the act. These can be negative, such as "rape" or "adultery", or they can be positive, such as "making love" etc. There are a range of labels to suit the various circumstances of the specific act.
In order to be a moral absolute, you would have to say that all occurences of the act (i.e. sexual intercourse) are either wrong, or right. This is obviously unworkable, and show why moral absolutes do not exist.
It is also why saying that "rape is an absolute wrong" doesn't really have any meaning, because,"rape" is a morally relativistic label, applied using the process of moral relativism.
as for your other unnecessary comment Thunder:
As a side note, why is it that if a "professor" teaches it at a higher learning establishment, that it bears more credibility than simple common sense?
Obviously you are again referring to me. The explanation given in ethics courses make absolute sense. Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them wrong. I have presented scenarios and facts to support my position. What have you done? Relied on emotion and opinion? If I am not mistaken, you have a book which is advertised on this site from time to time. You experienced abuse in your past. Therefore, you are speaking from a biased perspective. This is not intended to insult you in any way. You just may wish to rethink insulting others as you are composing your post and hit "submit."
