It's official - JWs have least common sense of any religious group in US
by slimboyfat insome fascinating results in the latest pew research.
(how did i miss this before?
) including that jws rely on their religion the most of any group to tell right from wrong and rely on common sense the least.

It's striking that 48% of witnesses make less than $30,000 a year. That doesn't leave much for the contribution box. -

My first Halloween Party

3rd gen what a fabulous night!! Now I'm curious who the model is...pm me ;).
my daughters used to get embarrassed when I would suddenly have deep 'left a cult!' discussions with strangers, but now they practically start the conversations themselves. Conversation is so much more interesting when it's not about the weather....

I've felt like a normal person!! And I now do such scandalous things! I go to church, volunteer with charities, celebrate Christmas and vote. I mean I've gone completely off the rails :). -

Are there any references to bathing in the bible? Yes! Bathsheba bathed, and you know where that led her and the heartache it caused. -

Honestly, Do You Still Act or Think Like a JW?
by minimus inor do traces or attitudes still rear its ugly head of your past involvement with the witnesses?
-

I still get really really down on myself for past and present mistakes...mostly past, as im a better person now that I'm not a witness. I started a thread here (one of 2! I'm so lame!!) about the guilt I feel when I'm not perfect, and the responses helped a lot. Now I repeat this mantra when I'm feeling down on myself and it allows me to keep things in perspective:
I'm not perfect. I will never be perfect. I will do stupid things.

Until they're teenagers, most kids are kind of obsessed with following 'the rules', whatever those may be in their worlds. It's helpful if you can get kids and also THEIR FRIENDS to go together...friends from school, or non witness cousins. Of course to their friends, it's second nature to them and they are relaxed, and will in turn relax your 'coming out of it' kids. -

Handing out candy
by mikeypants ingrowing up my parents would barricade our home off by parking vehicles bumper to bumper - you would have to crawl under the cars or over the bumpers to get to our door.
also, we would turn off all the lights and hide in the back room away from the street.. that was the norm for me.
isnt that insane?

We would turn off all the lights and hide in the basement. I remember being terrified that children would knock on our door! So silly!!
Tonight we went to a neighborhood in town that I had heard was mobbed this time of year...and wow, was it. It's fun seeing the kids and parents from school. Trick or treating is community! Then we came and hit our favorite spots near our house.

Or those of us on the left will say it was caused by Fracking.
Earth is amazing isn't it? When these destructive things happen it gets even more beautiful. Kind of like the Grand Canyon I suppose. Simple erosion over a long period of time caused by a river=breathtaking beauty. However this was mysteriously fast! Yep, demons. ;)

HHH good observations. It's kind of a catch 22. Current elders getting burnt out and stepping down, so the remaining elders are getting even more burnt out, and nobody but fools wants this to happen to themselves, so they're not reaching out. Meanwhile those very burnt out elders are always told they're not doing a good enough job. I feel sorry for them, truly. What happens at the tipping point? Any thoughts? Maybe the more people leave, at least the fewer burdens for those remaining elders to bear.
