Decided to sign up...

so i decided to sign up after many years of lurking.

started researching after finding out about ray franz, which inevitably brought me to this site.. i'm still well and truly inn, but don't want to give any information out, i'm sure you guys know the reasons.. since "jay double you .

org" came online, there has been a definite sense of hysteria with everyone who is "inn", and i get a feeling it's going to get a whole lot crazier as the years press on.. one point i would like to raise is that i feel, without a doubt, that 2034 is going to be the new finish line.

In search of WWWW (What's Wrong with Watchtower)

in more than 40 years of doorknocking not a single person was ever able to sit down with me and kindly and patiently explain exactly "what's wrong with watchtower" in simple terms and baby-steps that i could grasp at the time.. of course i have to admit it is not as easy as one might hope.. this morning one possible (not simple enough) summary came to mind:.

the bible promotes belief in jesus and the liberating and transforming gospel message about him (in both the nt and ot).. the watchtower instead promotes belief in a visible golden calf and pseudo-mediator between god and man in the form of:.

blind authoritarian clerics who have co-opted the word "elder" and turned it into a title (aka apostate "clericalism").

Perry, it's true! Most Christian religions do believe that eventually the tent of God will reside with humans on earth. It's something that they don't dwell on tho, because Heaven is the first step...and the bible doesn't give much detail about it. There is not much rash speculation in Christendom about this, but those of us who study our religions know this is a tenet of our beliefs. So for witnesses to constantly say, 'false Christianity' doesn't believe in everlasting life on earth, this is untrue.

What is phenomenally impressive is that they can set a date for the end of the world, and than string people along for over a hundred years!!!! Those are some FINE manipulation skills, right there!

I too doubt they will say anything outright about specific dates in the next few decades, but they will give little hints suggesting they are in the know, which will drive the crowds wild.

I want to ask again, didn't receive an answer...with all this official website promoting they're doing, aren't they concerned people will see sites like this one on the same Google page? Because it's not like they can say to a person on the street, 'be careful about those other sites, those are evil schemes...'

their view of apostates seems to be out of the realm of the ordinary, the natural.

its as if the words of apostates are supernatual or spiritistic as if apostates are some kind of jedi knights who can slightly wave their hands or twitch their eyes and bring one under a spell.

Now that we're speaking about books or movies that influenced us, I read any rand's Anthem as I was leaving. Couldn't recommend it more. I do not agree with all her beliefs, but this book was truly inspiring. It's short and easy too. I kept a copy of it on my dashboard, even in the KH parking lot, hoping others would think about reading it too. It's about thinking as an individual and escaping a controlling society.

Yes logans run was something I saw when I was quite young, at the drive in theater, but it affected me a lot throughout the years. I always thought about that part when he finds that old man with the old books.

And the Time Machine and how in utopia everyone is dumbed down and can't think for themselves.

how about that scarlet johanssen movie, The Island? Everyone promised to go to paradise.

I added The Giver to my Netflix queue based on someone else's recommendation here.

Joining sports teams is the BEST thing kids can do. That transition from elementary school to middle school? Rough! If your kids are on sports teams, it's a breeze. They already have lots of friends from other schools they will see in middle school! The kids in little league are really good kids, and you will meet a lot of really good parents too. The coaches are good people. I wouldn't have met so many neighbors I truly respect without little league. Couldn't recommend it more!!! So definitely push this with your ex. Bring the matter to court, if necessary. I think I know who the judge will side with ;).

Yes I cringe. I don't think the bible was trying to be scientific, everything in genesis is for a human perspective. I believe in God, I also believe in the Big Bang, evolution...I believe God used these things. it's like he set it into motion, and then stepped back for a long time, decided dinosaurs had gotten too large and decided to just keep the small ones that tweet nice. Other planets, they are part of the Big Bang. I took astronomy at the junior college when I was still a witness. Had many arguments with my parents and even other witnesses. It was back when astronomists suspected other planets but hadnt found any yet. Had just noticed gravitational wobbles in certain stars. Witnesses I told said 'no, that's ridiculous, there aren't any other planets!!' They will deny anything until there are pictures. And even then. My father hardly believes in dinosaurs. Even though they've found full skeletons. They might as well be flat Earthers, really.

Yeah I agree that they're NOT a positive force in their communities, since they don't do real charity work or get involved with community organizations! in fact, the worst things get, the happier they are, cuz they can say 'see?'

I was quite the rebel to be the PTA president when I was still a witness! Most don't do stuff like that.

However they are in general not a Negative force in their communities, either. Not to the public, anyway. Inside, we know how messy everything is under the facade, and how miserable.

most other places i've seen are nothing but filled with spite and hate.

this site is reasonable and supportive...thank you for that!.

Gone and forgotten, yes, merry Christmas, happy birthday, and happy new year too! And I'm hoping you stay healthy. 50 is a great time to start living on your own terms!!! If you are confused about what you believe, but are a spiritual person, pray for direction, and study, using reference material that isn't witnesses to get a different perspective.

A Mind at War

right now, i feel like my mind is at war with itself.. on the one side is reason, logic.. on the other is tradition, hope and fear.. reason and logic are challenging life-long beliefs.

they are telling me, "is this any more believable than the story of the lord of the rings?".

certain doctrines of my belief system are crumbling.. my mind still wants to hold on to the belief in a creator, his son jesus and the bible.

Cappytan, if you want to leave this thing and still have a faith in God, study. Read apologetics websites. Read the New Testament. Notice how often Jesus is mentioned next to God, and notice how often he's mentioned in wt literature or in talks or comments. It's completely different, and this is a result of brainwashing. Even when scriptures are read about Jesus, follow up answers will be about Jehovah. Witnesses have changed the bible. Get yourself a good version. Some include Yahweh in the Old Testament as it should belong, but don't add It wherever the heck they want to in the New Testament, where it shouldn't. There is absolutely no case for adding it there. Do some research. Get out your interlinear Greek Scriptures bible. The purple one. It helped me immensely!!! When you've researched every single thing witnesses differ from mainline churches on, then read about fundamentalism. It helped me a lot to move from fundamentalism. It's the only way that I can have a faith, because I have a scientific mind. We can talk about these issues later. But I am completely at peace now, I have a strong faith, I am part of a very good church community, where people care about each other but they don't judge each other (seriously!) and there's just a lot of worshipfulness gratefulness and joy.
