What IS Gods name anyway?

i am sure this topic has been brought up many times here but i don't always have the oppertunity to read all the posts so i am going to raise it again.. i went to the meeting the other day with my wife and this came up in the talk.

the speaker saying how improtant it was to have the right bible to get the most out of bible reading.

the right bible being the nwt of course because it uses the divine name which we all know is jehovah...or yahweh.

What about the words Jesus said when he was in agony on the Cross (torture stake etc.) Didn't he cry out My God My God why have you forsaken me. Surely, Jesus would have used God's name at that critical time, if it was necessary?

The JWs try to make you think that they are the only ones using God's name (which of course isn't true) just as they try to make you believe that the JWs are specially chosen as they have the faithful and discreet slave class, and I think that anyone who reads Crisis of Conscience will soon come to realise that the FD class do not exist.

Question: ONLY ANOINTED ARE UNFORGIVABLE ?

minimus got me to thinking in his thread about the unforgivable sin and judging apostates.

i hope someone with a clearer memory than mine can confirm or deny what i remember.

i have some vague memory that the society taught that only members of the "anointed class" (144,000) could commit the unforgivable sin against the the holy spirit because only they had been called by it personally and, therefore, only they could reject it consciously and willfully.

Yes I definately remember that teaching, but it always was one of those doctrines, that I never could accept. I don't know if the teaching has changed on that issue now. Sorry not much help there.

what to believe now?

this is my first time posting here or on any ex-jw forum but i want to know if anybody else is not sure what to believe anymore.

paradise on earth sounds great and it was drilled into me for 11 years, it's just kinda hard to shake.

what about armageddon?

So glad that you have joined the forum. Many of us have asked that question and are still asking now,

I believed that I had the truth ( over thirty years as a JW), but what a shock to the system to realise that things

that we were taught were in fact, in many cases, lies.

I have bought a few different translations of the bible, and am now trying to actually read the bible more

often instead of WT & Awake mags and society literature as number one reading material.

You will find a lot of help on this forum, but it will take time to come to terms with what has happened

in your beliefs.

How long were you baptized until you left?

i'm interested to find out how long each of you were baptized until you decided to leave?.

i was baptized december, 1989 and left six years later.. if only i didn't get baptized in the first place, then i could tell my family how wonderful the holidays were!

for KT - it was 29 years - having survived 29 yrs within the Org. the great tribulation is going to be a "doddle" !

when was it that the individual congregations became a registered charity in their own right ?

Thanks for the information, I have checked out the Charity Commission links and the info wll be very useful.

The congregation's accounts were not prepared in the correct format (SORP - Statement of Recommended Practice) as they did not show the restricted income seperately, we pointed this out to the P.O. and he said it was a mistake and that it would show up in the next year's accounts, IT NEVER DID! We've heard the latest excuse is that when they became a charity in their own right in 1997, they seemed to think that they could change the restricted fund set-up as well, and as you have read in our earlier posts, they have lied to the Charity Commission about ever having a specific fund for a lift for the disabled.

Ray Franz' Book

howdy, i'm new here.

21 years in & now about 1 year drifted away with no meetings for spiritual food other than the memorial.

so, in my brother's view i am either spiritually dead or the next thing to it.

Although everything appears to have been said about Ray Franz and his books, I still want to add my little bit, I can never thank Ray enough for having the courage to write those books, and with so much humility and as a REAL christian, I was half-expecting a bitter man, but what a surprise. His insight into the Organisation and double standards etc. would have been impossible for the ordinary JW to ever find out.

We wrote a letter to Ray & Cynthia to thank them for the wonderful information, but did not expect a reply, and yet within one week he wrote back to us (and this was from USA to UK) and it was a very upbuilding letter, one which I will treasure. Quite the opposite to the local elders who came to visit and discuss our "doubts" - UN involvement, false prophecies, paedophiles etc. that was nearly three months ago and they still haven't got back to us !!

I'm sure that you will benefit greatly from Ray's books and of course the other books mentioned here too.

How Do YOU Help People Out Of The Watchtower?

what have you personally done to help people come out of the watchtower?

are you actively speaking to your friends and/or family about what you now believe?

were you disfellowshipped for speaking out against jehovah's witnesses?

Make copies of all of the UN, Paedophile, Stocks in War Shares documents and gave them to a couple of very good friends (JWs). Then bought them Crisis of Conscience and when they had finished reading that, we then gave them In Search of Christian Freedom, (after of course, making sure that they wanted to read these books) They had been witnesses for thirty years and now have decided that Jehovah is not backing this organisation. They had their first shepherding call on Weds. with the threat that they (elders) would be back !

We now have to talk to a few others, who we know are totally disillusioned with the Org. Hopefully, they too will see the light.

Should I go to the meetings?

i'm having a bit of a problem.. my mother recently decided to go back to the meetings.

it isn't enough that i've made a personal decision for myself to not go.

but i find her constantly trying to push me to go.

You won't be doing yourself or your family any favours by staying in the Org. and not standing by your principles. A saw a good bit of advice here a few days ago, - some-one (sorry can't remember who) said that some can make giant strides out of the org. others need to take baby steps (or words to that effect) perhaps in your case, those small baby steps, may be easier for all concerned.

Need Help with Info Sheet

my somewhat "inactive" mother says she's getting the feeling that i'm losing my faith in the wts and has asked me to explain to her.

problem is, i locked up because it's been so recent and my mother can be quite intimidating.

she's a "see it to believe it" person and has suggested that i show her proof.
