Can you admit that you "used to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses"?

i was reading about minimus' trip to the hospital and his telling them that he "used to be a jw" but he would take blood now if needed.. it got me to thinking; i don't like telling people that i used to be a jw.

that's in my past and i prefer to keep it there.

if asked about my upbringing or religious preference, i usually just comment on being brought up in a strict religion but i got over it..and then try to change the subject.

Yes and I love to tell people about the hypocrisy with the UN, issues with paedophiles etc. Only today I was talking with a neighbour and I admitted that I had been brainwashed for over 30 years. and that we are now shunned by so called friends of 30 years. She then went on to tell me that her two aunties were JWs and they had split the family.and discouraged their own children to mix with others in the family. I told her to remember what I said about them being involved in the UN, just in case they call on her one day.

so after over 4 yrs i finally read the book...i had a lot of my suspicions confirmed especially with all the doctrinal matters such as 1914, this generation, alternative service, etc.

the fact that the gb actually considered all of these things and almost voted for change on some of them but ultimately did not because of not having 2/3 majority is disgusting!

the malawi/mexico hypocrisy is appalling to say the least.

It's a wonderful book, we bought it a couple of years ago and also bought In search of Christian Freedom, At first I thought that I would be struck down with lightning for reading it, but very soon came to realise that what is being said by Ray is so believable because it can be seen in our own congregations. What an eye-opener ! It certainly helped us to make that all important decision to leave the cult - after over thirty years.

As you said - many thanks for Ray Franz, he has helped so many to see the true light

there are many things that i could say....many true accounts that i could attest to of unjust acts done to people and inexcusable sufferings caused by many in the congregations of jehovah's witness to others, at times by myself as well sadly, but there is nothing anyone can do now to make up for the wrongs that have been done to those that have been hurt....leave it in jehovah's hands that is what i have been told by those in charge., this has always been the answer....so i will do just that knowing that he will repay those who have treated others so badly and that continue to do so.

I've just read your letter and copied it to print out for my husband and some friends who also came out of the Org. when we did. It's a brilliant letter but I am so sad for you, It must have been sheer hell to have your children snatched away. I hope that you are back in touch with them now, and hopefully, they have come out of the Org. too. The paedophile stuff is sickening isn't it. Have you read the latest topic Re: Barbara Anderson v WT? I just wish that the governments/authorities would crack down on the Witnesses for shielding paedophiles.

I disassociated myself today....June 8, 2006

i wrote a letter to some personal friends in the congregation and enclosed the letter from the un.

i also wrote a short disassociation letter to four elders and enclosed the un letter as well.

i delivered them to the mailboxes and also mailed a couple.

Well done Arwen, its not an easy thing to do. I hope that everything goes well for you. We did exactly the same thing with the UN letter and our own letter - sent them to about 17 "Friends"and then to the elders. THe so called friends now shun us and a letter came back (eventually) from the elders - signed by three elders! so we assumed it was a disfellowshipping letter, but after-all of that it was still worth doing and at least we can now see how cultish the JWs all are.

I was really hoping that some-one would know where to buy this video.

Jeremiah Films do one but I'm not sure if it is the same one. Is there any way that it can be downloaded and stored on a cd, I really would like to show it to some ex-jw friends of ours, but they haven't got an internet connection.

It is worth keeping this topic current for a while so that new ones can view it.

I have just taken a look at the website for the film copany - Jeremiah Films - searched thro Google. They have some videos on JWs, but I'm not sure if they have this one "JW exposed" has anyone managed to get a copy of this video?

We were in the Organisation for over 30 years and have been DA for the past 4 years and have never come across this video. We have sat and watched it this morning and it's absolutely brilliant, has anyone an idea of when this video was produced? It was so good to see Ray Franz, Peter Gregerson, Carl Olaf J. and so many others.

We are going to see if we can buy the video - there appears to be a telephone number on the screen, so we will give them a ring this afternoon. Does anyone know if the tape is still available for purchase?

Scriptures/Beliefs That Never Sat Right With You

was there anything that you were taught that made you think twice regarding the watchtower's interpetation??

the scripture about jesus raising the temple in 3 days sounded like he was going to raise himself back to life.

i never really understood that scripture.

There were so many, we often talk about them, but of course I can't think of many at this moment.

There was the case of the copper serpent and Moses (Numbers 21) Jehovah told Moses to make a fiery snake and put it on a pole, so that if anyone has been bitten he could look up at the serpent and he would keep alive. .... It didn't seem that long ago when Aaron and the people made a golden calf and that didn't go down too well with Jehovah at that time. All seems a bit contradictory !
