Repercussions for sexual immorality
by Veryconflicted inhello, i was hoping to get some clarification about how people are disciplined for immorality as a jw.
i became involved with a co-worker a few years ago, she was fairly aggressive and she initiated a physical relationship very quickly.
at the time i did not know she was married and a jw.

Yes, move on.
As far as repercussions for her, that depends on how well she is able to lie and hide it. You'd most certainly be painted a lying crazy person if you try to confront it.
Either way she will not be pursuing you beyond sex. That should be glaringly apparent.
For your mental health, grieve, and move on. Don't expect closure. This gal is messed up.
The bitchy side of me wants to say 'blow it all wide open' , but honestly it would be a waste of your time and energy. Or not, you were taken for a ride for several years. Id have a hard time letting it go.
The ball is in your court. You could take her down if you wanted in terms of the jws. But what is the price you will pay if you do or don't. That's the only thing I would be focused on. The price you pay.
Is 1 women on this planet worth the turmoil?

Waco Mini-Series on Netflix. Powerful and Scary.
by Simon inso we binge-watched the waco mini-series on netflix.. wow, what a powerful and enlightening programme!
even if you think you know what happened, it gives you extra context to it all.
it's very well done even if you just want a great drama series, but it's way more than that.. there are of course some dramatization and slight historical inaccuracies for the purpose of story-telling but it was very informative.

If anyone asks to much personal info on this matter I will not discuss as it hits really close to home but I will answer what I can that I feel comfortable answering (could be a legal issue).
How did I end up in the Waco Methodist home ? My JW guardian would drop me off when she got mad at me.(weeks at a time) Yes you read that right. Sick isn't it.
If it were not for a very amazing Judge in that county ( will not say the name of that most amazing Judge) that followed me from the age of 4 until adulthood I would not have survived.
Anyway back to the discussion.
David K did this. Do you mean that the netflix movie didn't show him literally burning some of his own followers alive? Before the raid!? Shocking.

FinkThe fires by all accounts came from the BD's themselves so you cant blame the ATF for doing that and no they didn't throw fire bombs into the compound.
Information came forward after the event by BD members saying that this was the religious cults theological doctrinal plan, orchestrated by David Koresh himself. This is factual. Ask me how I know.
Just because you watched the news. Listened to interviews. Saw a movie on Netflix. Suddenly people are an expert on this tragedy?
I went to the Waco Methodist orphanage home. As in ,I lived there.
Also met BD's. Before and, after>(the ones that survived). Dated one. Helped one leave Waco.
Come again?

Meanwhile how’s the Chinese economy doing?
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/covid-19-economic-impact/ This link is a month old, but shows the first quarter of the year being hit hard. And China does withhold lots of information so there that.
This one is more current but is wordy at the beginning. https://time.com/5824599/china-coronavirus-covid19-economy/
From the next article: The generally accepted view, as indicated by the median estimate from the survey for a fall of 6 per cent, means that China will report an official
in the first three months of the year.
This would be the which was the last year of the decade-long Cultural Revolution when the then tiny Chinese economy “was on edge of collapse”.https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3080273/coronavirus-chinas-economy-set-first-contraction-1976-covid
More,
https://www.euronews.com/2020/04/17/china-s-economy-in-worst-downturn-since-since-70s-in-virus-battle
China sure try's to keep tight lipped on things. I'm finding a lot of info out there and it does form an overview but not sure of the accuracy. I'd imagine they are trying to feel their way though the mess and nothing is completely certain except uncertainty.

Yes, absolutely. Protest are popping up everywhere.
I say mandatory masks for work involving the public. If someone doesn't like it, stay home and go broke. Or do work online.
There is general uneasiness and swiftly heading towards anger from the public.
I noticed tonight from several news outlets that many restaurants are going to defy state governors rules and open anyway. Along with hairdressers and many other businesses. All of them have said that they dare the governors or police to try to do something about it.
On that note much of the police force are saying they will not be enforcing stay at home orders any longer despite what the state says.
Fishermen in places where they closed fishing are coming out in droves. 2 state or federal employees per 50 mile radius can't/wont fight 100 fisher men in each spot. ( Which by the way no one is fishing anywhere close to each other, plenty of space). They don't intend to enforce. Least they be shot. I'm not kidding. Its happened before here, to many times and rangers know this. Around here if its not the bears and cougars you have to look out for, though there are plenty in the woods, its the people.
I see this trend gaining momentum.
Not sure what other options there are.

Has Anything Positive Come Out Of This Coronavirus Isolation For You?
by minimus ini guess you could make a case of more families being together although that might not be the best situation.
less cars and pollutants mean we can breathe better.
if you were ever uncomfortable in crowds, this could be good news.

I cant think of many positives, but there are a few I suppose. I'll try.
I don't think anyone will look at me funny for looking to move back off the grid again. Its a simple peaceful way of life.
I realized even more that I have lived/ lead an unusual life for an American. Because of that I know so many out of the way private/isolated mountainous, and desert parts in the states and can go there whenever I like without seeing hardly anyone, if anyone.
The things left on my life goal lists will not be affected much by this pandemic should I live so long. Perhaps even more enhanced from a certain perspective.
It is now socially acceptable to stay away from people. I doubt many if any will make fun of me using alcohol to sanitize everything now, like some used to.
On a facetious note, there are/were some very unethical, nepotistic, thieves of business owners that got knocked out. And I don't care not even a little.
Also I'm hoping that this drives the cost of housing down as the price of housing here for the regular working class was unacceptable and had gotten to dangerous levels of inequality. As in a house with two people it takes working near 80 hours each just for a basic run of the mill apartment and still be able to save some. Or a home that would be 250,000 in Illinois could have easily gone for near 2 million here. Same home, same layout. With only 2-3 dollars difference in min wage. Sick.
Overall, I really wanted to move off the grid on my own terms. Not fight so hard to get up to speed living back on the grid only to get slapped back by this. Never again.
My big positive overall has seemed to be that I will never again entertain someone elses opinion on how I should/could, live my life or proceed forward especially when most of that advice is no longer valid, something this pandemic has exposed. I was actually on the right track for me but somehow bought into the narrative that I should live like a 'normal' (as if that carries anymore weight with me at this point) person with all this superficial luxury. Currently I feel split in two, but working towards redefining what I really want and can possibly achieve.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread
by Simon inthis topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

Others maintained that smoking was a good preventative measure (imagine!)
I can imagine.
I was at a cabin in the mountains in 2006 and the outhouse had stacks and stacks of old National geographic magazines. One of the ads was from Camel cigarettes. It claimed that smoking Camels gives you vitamin C. It was dated 1964.
I don't think enough is being done in the arena of 'science and medicine' versus the population growth in the last 60 years.
I do think this pandemic will change that. If anything, its clear that the system is very wobbly at best in regards infectious diseases and cures. I have high hopes that after this economic hit globally, that it will probably be a top priority from now on. At least I hope so.

Why are things wrong?
by Tim207 induring our family worship tonight a thought popped into my head while watching this weeks video on demon influence.
why is does jehovah not like certain things?
like why is homosexuality wrong?
-
caves
For me, growing up as a jw, just about everything was demonic. I lived in one of those over the top (even for jw standards) homes in regards that. Curtain moved with the wind, demons. Misplaced keys, demons. Horse got spooked, demons. Prank phone call, demons. ect....
Talking about demonic abilities apparently gives the demons more power and abilities. Umm okay. Yet the magazines and publications have pictures in them portraying satan, beast, demons killings, global desolation, famine, ect.... That jws will spend time studying , looking at, and commenting on.
We used to have semi trucks driving around that said ATDS trucking. I thought it said AIDS. Because I vocalized what I thought it said, the car was immediately pulled over and I got a butt busting on the side of the hyway. And long lecture about homosexuality.
Using the word 'magic' in my household was just about viewed like using the word 'fuck'.
To be a little balanced, not every jw home went overboard like mine did.
Why are things wrong? Because the GB says so. Many other religions do the same thing, because their leaders say so.
