Yeah, that's one of the big things that made me really start questioning the JW's back when I still believed them. That and the asshole elders in my old congregation (screw you Ken Goans and Jeff Bivens). If you do any studies of cults you'll often find that they represent god as being very small and petty. Seeing as how JW's really aren't that different than many other cults its not suprising to see they share the same limited view of god.

Bad influence of JW's
by Pardus inwhen i think about growing up as a witness, the worst thing my mind was subjected to was thinking about, and actually believing that, everyone, even "good," moral people, would die at armageddon except "faithful" jws.
the more i thought about this, the more i came to believe that i don't want to serve a god that would kill billions of people simply because they were not jws.
if that did happen, i would not be happy in paradise, laughing and enjoying myself, knowing that jehovah and his armies had slaughtered so many people for that ridiculous reason.

These people would totally ignore their own family if they were disfellowshipped. They would also turn in their own mother if they thought she was doing something wrong. Face it, they're cult members. You may care about them but caring doesn't equal results. I say that now, I said it back when I was a JW and was trying to explain why the janitor elder who cared greatly probably wasn't the best person to be talking to when it came to family problems when a professional counselor was just as available.
Stop worrying about your friends and just take care of yourself. Find the thread about letting friends and family go. It'll do you good. -

If they were complying with Ceasar they'd pay their taxes and quit whining about how people should make donations as well as quit bitching about how horrible other religions are for passing said plate around for people to put money in.

Speaking from experience, those parts of the country aren't exactly what I would call normal. Granted I haven't spent enough time there, I have spent enough to know that one of the reasons it not real normal place is not being their version of a good little christian is enough to make you a HUGE outcast. They hold their bibles and everything involved very highly.

After years of this empty practise, A TERRIBLE THING HAPPENS
IN PRIVATE TO WITNESS KIDS. They say in their minds:"My parents are idiots. They are religious fanatics"
And THEN THEY THINK THIS DEVASTATING THOUGHT!
"So, why should I listen to anything they say?"
Hey, did you know me when I was JW? Sure sounds like it. My parents were always overly paranoid about everything (still are) and I found that out pretty quickly. They would go on about how various things are so horrible and eventually I found out that some of then were actually pretty damn nice! After seeing that I pretty much decided that the only person I would listen to when deciding if I should or should not try is myself.

It angered me that someone could be a loyal Witness for over 40 years, and then they are totally forgotten by their "brothers" and "sisters" when they are no longer able to sell magazines for the corporation.
That's actually fairly common among cults. Once a person stops being useful to them there's really no need to care about them. Its not like they're going to be able to sell any once they're in a home so why bother wasting their busy time on them.
As for the issue of JW's selling their magazines and other crap, if you'll remember a while back they did in fact sell those very magazines for a set price. The only reason they switched to the "donation" arangement was because they would have had to pay taxes on them if they didn't and they wanted to avoid that. Funny how this wonderful "new light" came at just the right time wouldn't you say? Not only that but even if someone only asks for gets a donation a small percentage of the time they still probably come out ahead anyway. If they can dupe some unsuspecting schmuch into taking their literature (and I use that term in the loosest possible sense) chances are they will probably "donate" more money than they would have paid back when it was mandatory. -

Smoking and apostates
by Elsewhere inmrmoe got me thinking... is it just me, or does a disproportionate number of apostates smoke?.

Don't smoke and with the exception of the last time I went drinking never have. My buddy smokes and for some reason it just sounded fun that night. Incidently, that was the night I stopped drinking. Once I throw up after eating/drinking something I never eat or drink it again. No more pop sickels, hot dogs, bread sticks or alcohol.

1. Is Jehovah the Lord?
2. Is Jesus the Savior?
3. Is Jesus a true god or a false god?No, no, and no. If you ask a person who doesn't believe in the bible what do you expect them to say?
