From my experience, if you were rich in the world, you were generally "rich in the truth" .. all the millionaires that I have known, specifically businessmen, have all held elderships in the congregation .. most didn't deserve them.

End gay cures
by irondork ini just signed a petition to put a stop to phony "gay cures" happening right now in france - and touring to another 9 countries.
this has to stop - these "gay cures" are extremely dangerous and so damaging it drives many to self-harm and even suicide.
with sessions planned in 9 more countries, france must lead the way.

A happy life for a gay ex-JW
by Steve_C ini'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but here goes.. i've posted a few times before about different subjects.
in some of those posts ive mentioned that im gay, and in others ive referred to my wife and kids.
i thought id share a bit more information to any who were curious about this.

That's so awesome. While my ex-wife is not gay, coming out to her was one of the best experiences ever. She was so supportive and I think she felt a massive sense of relief due to the 18 years of "awkward" love making that she blamed herself for. We were recently discussing our mutual dating adventures and she was having a "I should be looking for a JW brother" moment .. ( she's inactive but hasn't really exited the way I have ) I just laughed and told her to avoid the JW brothers, since she'd likely just bag another repressed homosexual .. I honestly think there are a lot more of trapped in the organization then anyone wants to admit.
Since leaving the organization and coming out publically I have learned a lot about what life is actually supposed to be like .. it's amazing how blind you are in a place that teaches you that only there can you really see ... Ironic.
I am so happy for you that your situation worked well for you. Your kids dodged a major bullet being raised by a loving couple that accepts themselves for who they are and kept them from the blinding ignorance of a thought controlling organization -- kudos!

Questions about disfellowshipping and 'non-sanctioned' shunning
by Steve_C inbasically, i have a couple of questions about the current rules regarding disfellowshipping and shunning.
by current i mean since 1999.. sorry, but i have to put a bit of my history to clarify my situation.. i was a born-in who was baptized in 1983. got married to a sister in 1984. then the kids came.
by the mid-1990s my wife and i had become increasingly irregular, so that by 1999 we were both inactive and only went to the memorial and conventions.. in 1999 i committed adultery, confessed to the elders, and had a judicial committee.

I am also dealing with the "you're not disfellowshipped but I have judged you evil" shunning ... Parents disowned me, brother and sister both will have nothing to do with me .. most of friends ignore and do not return calls.
My closest friend in the world, who has largely stayed on the fence, text me tonight saying he needed to talk to me tomorrow, which will likely be the "I can't have anything to do with you" conversation..
The organization teaches its followers to be judgmental and reactive .. they will deal with that training despite any official word one way or the other, if you are doing something they deem unworthy.
It's sad, lame and ultimately destructive to all involved. It's best to be as distant as possible from any of it.

How many JW pedofiles do you personally know?
by oldlightnewshite ini was just thinking that out of the 200 jws that i actually know, at least 4 of them to my knowledge are pedophiles.
i know for a fact, through personal confidences.
that means, as far as my circle of jovo friends/acquaintances goes, 2% of them are kiddy fiddlers.. without mentioning names or details, how many do you know of for a certainty to be pedos, and what percentage does it work out at, considering all your circle of jovo friends?.

I know of one in my old hall ... came out of prison already reinstated and in good standing, but the elders actively covered up his actual crime, and we (ministerial Servants and Elders) were told, when asked, to answer that he was in jail for fraudulant business practices.
He also rents out a "garage" apartment that he uses as his address for the parole officers, but actually lives in a different city about a block from an elementary school. I specifically informed the elders and the CO about that, and was told that it was not my concern and was read scriptures about minding my own business.
He also would frequently show up for Sat service with no pre-arranged partner and end up taking one of the younger ones with him to "let the parents have a break" .. So infuriating .. everytime I was there I would instantly offer to work with him, despite my disgust, just to prevent him from being with some random child out in service.
He also filed for divorce from his wife, even though they still live together, so that she would qualify for welfare support. The elders were fully aware of this and have no problem that he and his wife are now technically living together unmarried. All of this was "overlooked" due to the "extremely sensitive and confidential nature of his case."
It's amazing the lengths they will go to hide a pedophile in the congregation

"Evidently" the New Watchtower Propoganda Buzzword is "Clearly"
by LostGeneration inwe have seen hundreds of examples of where the watchtower uses the word "evidently" to make their doctrinal point.
(page 9, para 6).
(page 19 para 5).

OK... is it just me, or does this paragraph not make any sense at all :
Clearly, our not knowing the exact
day or hour when this system will
end has been a blessing for us. Rather
than being frustrated or disappointed,
we find ourselves drawn ever closer
to Jehovah, our loving Father, as we immerse
ourselves in doing his will. How would "knowing" when the end was coming cause frustration or dissapointment? Exactly the opposite, not knowing, and pretending to have "figured it out" over the last 100 years has caused dissapointment and frustration, which could have been avoided if "mother" and "father" would get their shit together and communicate a bit.
"Clearly" they don't know shit, but that "clearly" helps them draw closer to their imaginary friend who will "clearly" one day wipe out all wickedness from the earth ... oh wait, yeah that's right, "CLEARLY" that's not gonna happen.

Serv. Mtng DEMO from last week: How would a "real" householder respond?
by Open mind inmy wife and i call in to the cbs/tms/sm once or twice a month and only listen to the announcements.
last week the announcements included a demo of a jw woman trying to peddle mags to a female householder.
her intro went like this:.

My standard response ...
"Hello So and so ... I'm an apostate, would you like to come in and learn a bit about your religion?"
They usually just walk away.

Has Anyone Seen "Prometheus"?
by Low-Key Lysmith ini loved it!
but then, it went right along with my own personal beliefs concerning mankind's origins, so i'm a little biased.. wondering what a religious person's thoughts would be?.

Was not a huge fan of the movie .. pacing was off, I have no idea why Charlize Theron is in that movie, her character seemed completely pointless. I share SBC's skeptism about being able to move, let alone run jump and play, after that type of surgery.
Also, it seems a little ignorant to assume that aliens would come, seed their DNA on this planet, and then 3.5 billion years later here we are .. a race that looks identical to them.. Evolution just doesn't work that way. The odds of us looking ANYTHING like a pregenitor species are astronomical.
I also was EXTREMELY dissapointed by the lead up and execution of meeting the aliens. The whole freaking movie is about going to meet them, and when you finally get to a being that has been evolving for at least 4 billion years, the only thing it does is rip off a head, kick someone and run away?! Really!? let down.
I also was a little perturbed by the fact that it seems they are ignoring the AVP cannon that has established that the predator race created the aliens, not the Engineers, but that was a very minor issue.
Positive -- Michael Fassbender.. He was freaking amazing in the movie, and was pretty much the only thing that salvaged it for me.
