i went to this congregation from 1969 to 1979. in 1979 it was dissolved and everyone was assigned to two new congregations.
i was only 10 yrs old, so nobody told me why.
but isnt it ususual for the sunflower name not to be carried over but two new ones to be made.
Must've been something pretty bad going on there.
My ex-husband was at Bethel in the early 70s. He told me about congregations that were running prostitution rings or engaging in wife swapping that had to be dissolved and the faithful publishers split up among other congregations. Maybe it was something like that and the "sunflower" name had been sullied by the wrongdoing.

i was born into a family already some generations into jehovah's organization.
from the time i was four years old i can remember my birthday being no more significant than me turning four years old.
later i saw the significanse of it when my classmates had their birthdays, but i knew it was wrong.

i had this funny thought tonight that my experience having been df'd has somehow made me feel like i have more to offer in a forum like this.
it's like going through dfing has allowed me to see the absolute worst this religion does.
i've seen the ugliest and come out of it.
about 10 years ago....one of my best friends was one month from getting married.
then i got a phone call from him.
he didn't go into detail but he told me that he had made a regretful mistake and that he told the elders.
Boy, do I understand how you felt. My best friend in JWs came out as a lesbian, left her husband and kids, and moved in with her lover. Of course, she was DF'd.
This action didn't occur in vacuum. She was distraught emotionally, but there was nothing I could do to help her because she was DF'd.
I felt terrible that she hadn't been able to confide in me or lean on me for comfort.
Luckily, a year later we reestablished contact (in your face, WTBTS!) and when I decided to leave my husband and the cult, she was there to help me. We've been BFFs again for years now.
The thing is, your old friend knows exactly the mentality behind shunning and understands why you did what you did. Hopefully, he's not bitter and will respond to your extended hand.

so this is what my soon to be ex says to me today...the same person who is courting wooing and flirting with a sister and has been for a very long time even way before i told him i wanted a divorce.
he tells me that they "dont spy on people any more to get proof" that my just telling him i did or him telling the elders that i did is "sufficient" for him to be free.
he also said hes not allowed to talk to said sister any more because she is "spiritually free" but not divorced yet!
I left my husband and the organization on the same day. He asked me to let him know when I had sex with someone so that he could be free to remarry. A big part of me wanted to refuse, but based on his personality I decided to give him the evidence of my perfidy. I ran away from him because he threatened my life, so I wasn't about to give him a reason to hunt me down.
I sent him an email. That's all he needed.
Oh, and it happened during the day. LOL!

D2D is just easier than street work. In D2D you can go a whole day and not talk to anyone but the Dubs in the car. In street work you're talking all day. Even if it's ineffectual the R&F will keep it up.
