i dont know if any of you have noticed this, but the watchtower library is now available online: .
http://wol.jw.org.
notice it only contain a subset of all publications, for instance the watchtower only goes back to year 2000. .
I'm sure the whole thing has been "sanitized" for their protection, removing the bits that don't agree with "present truth."

OMG, I remember that article and that sentence! We made a HUGE deal about that back then! Lots of excitement. That scan is absolutely accurate.

so simple, yet it could have prevented so many broken marriages if someone had just said something.... .
"therefore, if any man can show any just cause why they may not lawfully be joined together let him speak now or else hereafter forever hold his peace".
It wasn't said at my wedding in the US.
When my "worldly" cousins heard me promise to deeply respect my husband there was an audible gasp.

when you left the wts, how long did it take you to realize that most of the people around you are decent folks, not "worldlies" or "bad association"?.
how hard was it for you to accept this reality?.
it seems to me that even after realizing ttatt, it often takes a long time to realize the extent to which the organization's indoctrination still governs attitudes and thoughts....
Realizing that JWs did not have a corner on the "good people" market was one of the motivating factors for me to leave.
It was one of those, "If this isn't true, then what else they've taught me isn't true?" Tumbled like a snowball after that.

*** w75 5/1 p. 285 a contrastmissionaries with an urgent, lifesaving work ***.
another speaker, f. w. franz, the societys vice-president, forcefully impressed on the audience the urgency of the christian preaching work.. he stressed that, according to dependable bible chronology, 6,000 years of human history will end this coming september according to the lunar calendar.
this coincides with a time when the human species [is] about to starve itself to death, as well as its being faced with poisoning by pollution and destruction by nuclear weapons.. franz added: theres no basis for believing that mankind, faced with what it now faces, can exist for the seventh thousand-year period under the present system of things.
Of course, JWs quickly forgot all about the 1975 hype, so this gap explanation really didn't matter.
More like the borg tried to sweep it under the rug. I was 16 in 1975. I remember it well. It pissed me off when they started trying to blame the rank and file for the 1975 gaffe. My father quit his job to pioneer back then.

deuteronomy 23:1he that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the lord.. .
how exactly did they know if one "stone" was damaged ?
It's not like they had bathroom stalls back then.
did he ever get his law degree (old thread) does he practice law?.
or did he take over his in-laws sell cars to the wtbts dealership?.
what happened to the book ?.
An anecdote: My brother was at Watchtower Farm and was allowed to get married and bring his wife into Bethel service in 1986.
At their wedding I was in the receiving line, and this elderly German brother shakes my hand and says in a low voice, "Even Brozzer Schroeder's son vas not allowed to bring a vife to Betel. Heh, heh, heh."
Apparently, there were some hard feelings about Albert Schroeder's privileges.

Or...
They're outsourcing the preaching work to India.

for me it has been a journey through these books: "crisis of conscience", "in search of christian freedom", "combatting cult mind control", "releasing the bonds", "i'm perfect you're doomed", "confessions of a teenage jesus jerk", "evolution for dummies", "the god delusion", "god is not great", and "the end of faith", along with various books about zen philosophy.. these movies have also been important: "religulous" and "worlds apart".. some books i am interested in reading next are "the spanking room", "growing up in mama's club", and "1984".
who has read these?
do you recommend them?.
"Crisis of Conscience" really helped me see the corruption of the WTS.
The movie "Religulous" knocked the scales from my eyes with regard to the specialness of Christianity.
Another movie, "What the Bleep Do We Know?" helped expand my horizons.

are they awake on the watchtower?.
http://www.catholic.com/tracts/are-they-awake-on-the-watchtower.
bangalore.
Excellent article! I knew the Society pulled info out of context, but I didn't realize they twisted quotations.
Such an approach is not unusual for the WTS, which often misrepresents or confuses official Catholic doctrine, and then refutes the mistaken notion rather than the actual teaching. This approach is called the "straw man" tactic. The misrepresented belief, which is essentially "made of nothing" and thus called a "straw man," is set up and then easily refuted or "knocked down." To the unsuspecting person, this tactic makes the WTS appear quite scholarly and biblically astute. The danger, however, lies in the fact that the WTS is refuting beliefs and teachings which are not legitimate Catholic doctrine.
