There's a struggle going on in your mind. I remember feeling so disappointed in the organization. It was like mourning. The thing is, you can't unknow what you know.

or maybe you accepted from the faithful slave that oral sex was bad, but you did it secretly---same with masturbation.. or perhaps you put in some wonderful hours and placements on that report slip, knowing you might have exaggerated just a bit.. so, were you one who practiced what you preached?.

but to be fair, jw's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body.

Way back in 1988 there was a young immigrant man who started studying with someone in our congregation. My ex-hubby and I picked him up for meetings. One day he asked when he would learn the secret teachings. We all laughed and said there were no "secret teachings." He kept insisting, but we kept telling him the Society was transparent. HAH! I didn't know until I started lurking on this forum how many things I didn't know.
Oh, turns out the guy was only studying so he could write a book exposing the Watchtower Society.
leaving the org was not a doctrinal choice for me as it was for many on this board.
i left mentally because of the boredom and then i physically left by being dfd.
i have been reading here for about a month or so and now i know i made the right decision.

My ex-husband is a born-in who finally made elder at age 36. We moved to where the need was greater and he found himself in a really great group of elders who were truly sincere men. Eventually we had to move away to my parents' congregation where my father was the PO, leading a group of old-timers who didn't even crack open a bible at an elders' meeting. There was a lot of political crap going on as well. After a few years of breathing that poisonous air ex-hubby became disillusioned and discouraged and resigned. About 4 years later I woke up and freely shared my doubts with him. He agreed with me but said it actually strengthened his faith that Jesus Christ would clean the whole mess up. He's still plodding along in the same old rut.

segregation of black children is basically praised as "wise" and "probably an advantage to all concerned.

even as an elder, i had doubts as to this being "the one true religion".
i personally had chosen 2014 as one of those "make or break" dates.
fortunately, i left years ago.
I had my big "I'm fed up" moment in 1995 when they started fooling around with the understanding of "generation." I was in a car heading out in service and reading the "noo lite" in the WT. I said, "We're going to see 2000 in this system, aren't we?" I saw it as maneuvering on the part of the Society, and if they needed to maneuver it couldn't be the truth.
That started the ball rolling.
