tonights book study in part is about jesus throwing out the merchants and money lenders in the temple... how do they manage to tally that up with asking for funds for all their various projects?

it seems hardly a meeting goes by without some kind of money plea?

don't they realise that they are doing the same thing that jesus got so angry about and threw out of the temple?

So true island man. I had the same exact thought yesterday. Same thing with how they define "uncleanness" They make up so many rules on what is uncleanness, when does it cross the line into gross uncleanness, when does it become greedy etc.. and add on many rules to define this. What about oral sex within marriage? How is that not a pharasaical man made rule? What about the prohibition on civilian alternative service? They had to make up rules about what was neutral and what was not.

They talk about how we do not have laws but we have principles. Arent principles supposed to be up to an individual to decide how to apply them? If a religious body determines exactly how principles should be applied, and makes rules based on principles, how is that any different than being under man made law again??

Why don't parents of an abused child go straight to police, why go to an elder first??

i hope i don't come across as judgemental but having read a lot on the current child abuse cases and the different threads on here, i am left wondering why on earth a parent of an abuse victim would go to an elder with the problem first and not straight to police?.

as a parent myself i know that if anything like that happend to my child (this applies to when i was still an active jw as well as now) i would not hesitate in going to the authorities as soon as i found out, it wouldn't of crossed mine or my husbands mind to go to an elder.

maybe after we had reported it but definitely never as the first port of call.

Their attitude of not wanting to bring "reproach" has actually backfired. If they had encouraged the parents to go to the police, there would be no lawsuits.

Also so many of these cases are from decades ago, people in their 40s reporting something from when they were kids. This is great and everyone should do it, but where are the current cases? You have to know that this is still going on right now! I would love to see parents go to the police first, not the elders.

They get you both ways though because if you appear in court against a pedo elder who does not have "2 witnesses" then you are taking your brother to court" If you warn other parents its slander! They make the victims and parents of victims into the bad guy, and the pedos as the victims.

Name Some Stupid Watchtower Rules or Ideas

there's a lot.. one rule that is dumb is that a brother must wear a suit for a sunday public talk that he is giving.

any other time, the brother could wear a suit coat with a different pair of pants and not be counseled for it.. another dumb idea is that you cannot date a person unless you seriously might marry them.

if you're on a date, you were supposed to always have a chaperone and holding hands might not be allowed as well as sitting together.. what other dumb rules and ideas can you add?.

no doubt you have heard about the nurse that thumbed her nose to the state and went out of the house in spite of being ordered to stay at home.

what is your opinion on this?.

Well if she is not infected, and not showing the signs she should not be quarantined.

Of course they do. This is a level 4 disease, the highest level of containment is required. The US has not been following protocol and been very sloppy with this outbreak so far.

I am a huge supporter when it comes to personal freedoms and consider myself a libretarian, however in the case of a disease this deadly, quarantine is required by law. A voluntary quarantine is not a quarantine at all.

The pharisees were merely the leaders of "Jehovahs Organization" at the time. They were only trying to "keep the congregation clean" from "worldly" non Jews. What is there to criticize? The GB should be praising their fine example in my opinion.

The hypocrisy never ceases to stun me even though I should know better. Criticizing the Jewish leaders for discriminating and looking down on non Jews. How do JWs look at non-JWs?? To not talk with them after school/work unless you are preaching to them, and that they deserve to be destroyed. ALL non-JWs are BAD ASSOCIATION by default! How much worse can it get? They truly are pros at seeing the straw in everyone elses eye and cannot see the huge beam in their own. They are totally blind to it. Its not just their comments at the KH, its also permeates their conversations.
