Has the WT ever said slavery is wrong? Last Sundays WT seems to say no.
by BU2B inin last sundays wt there was a paragraph talking about how the 1st century christian congregation was united despite differences.
rich and poor, jew and gentile, and get this.. slave and slave owner!
the wt has admitted that not only slaves were a part of the congregation, but that slave owners were as well, with no sanction on their behavior.

33 percent of Americans reject evolution
by Simon inhttp://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-57616373-71/33-percent-of-americans-reject-evolution/.
that seems to be a disturbingly high number for a western / educated / developed nation.. does this have anything at all to do with america slipping behind in the sciences?
it seems hard to imagine they could not not be linked somehow.. no surprise that the jesus party (republicans) reject evolution the most.

Jeff T- I find it amazing that you seem to know what constitutes scientific ignorance and what does not. You listed things, some of which have merit and some that do not, but to put all of those things, Anti-Vac, Flouridation opponents, and animal rights activists, all under the umbrella of ignorance is troubling. I suppose if you believe anything, supported by studies or not, that conflicts with the establishment view, than it is ignorance?

In last Sundays WT there was a paragraph talking about how the 1st century Christian congregation was united despite differences. Rich and poor, Jew and Gentile, and get this.. Slave and Slave owner! The WT has admitted that not only slaves were a part of the congregation, but that slave owners were as well, with no sanction on their behavior. In fact Paul told slaves to be obedient and submissive to their masters in EVERYTHING and work hard as to the Lord.
That said, Slavery is illegal in the world and therefore JWs would not be allowed to own slaves becuse it violates "Ceasers law". However do they feel that the slave owners of the past were wrong to do this? What about the owners throuought the Americas over the centuries? Were they wrong to have slaves according to the WT?One of the most disturbing aspects of the Bible is that it says nothing negative about slavery and in fact condones it. The practice of buying and selling humans like objects is disturbing to most yet even the NT condones this practice. Jesus nor Peter or Paul did nothing to end it, therefore we must conclude logically that the God of the Bible supports the practice, something most religions are very uncomfortable with and im sure have a healthy amount of cognitive dissonance about.
In a side point, although the WT has banned polygamy for its members, even in lands that it is legal in. This is not cripturally supported. The only mention about it in the NT is when the qualifications for special positions are discussed. It is there that "husband of one wife" is outlined. Since this was a special requirement for service, logically there would be others in the 1st century congregation who were "husbands of more than one wife".
While I do not personally believe in polygamy, I feel that it was wrong for the WT to again split up families and children and again with no scriptural basis. When the "new light" about this came out, or today when someone is studying to become JW and has 2 or more wives, they must dismiss all but the first as a result breaking up familes in the process and separating children from their siblings.
You know how dubs like to say how the world would be so much better if everyone was JW? Well if everyone was JW we would still have slaves on cotton, sugarcane, and tobacco plantations, no rights for women, etc because no one would have stopped these things. They would have just waited on God to fix it. Also if everyone was JW there would be no engineers, doctors, scientists, or any of those "worldly thing". Also there would be no blood fractions for them because after all, who would donate it without the "worldlings" around.
Sorry for the somewhat incoherent rant Im out -BU2B

Understand: Our salvation is not Jesus' primary concern
by pixel in...at least that's what the sunday study said:.
"at the same time, we need to understand that our salvation is not jesus' primary concern.
his main purpose from the beginning to the end of his earthly ministry was to work for the sanctification and glory of his father's name".

Is it not reasonble to think that if Jesus did use God's name, the pharisees and saducees, and scribes would raise enough hell to get that recorded in the Bible?
They tried to kill Jesus multiple times for lesser things than uttering the name that it was forbidden to speak. If he did say the name, it would have turned off prospective Jewish converts, possibly stumbling them. In addition, If Jesus used the name, wouldn't it make sense that at least some record of peoples reaction would have been recorded?

Nice,I caught the same thing last night! Not only that but the youngish conductor went on about how even through the Great Depression in the 30's the work has always been voluntary. I whispered to my wife that that is just not accurate. I believe they changed the policy as a result of the Jimmy Swaggart situation in '89! The article was certainly deceptive, but the comments by the conductor and the audience were even worse. Just like in Orwells 1984, inconvenient facts of the past are forgotten. They love to say how the voluntary donation work is PROOF of Jehoveers blessing.

Tower of Babel built by Babies!
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthe weekly tms bible reading assignment is not read, or not carefully read, by most of the sheeples.
it doesn't really matter, because the consideration of the bible reading material is one of the shortest parts on the meeting with a limited number of comments, and those comments are restricted to less than 30 seconds or you will get counselled.
over and over, the dubs are told to read the bible, yet the organization gives no real encouragement to read the bible by keeping everyone busy in the recruiting work and using relatively few scriptures in their "talks".. why?

And this would have required all 4,000 males to all work together on the project. Who would run the farms needed to feed these people? Who would do the hunting?

JWs in Florida and California. Is there really a difference?
by BU2B ini have heard over the years from many different people about how jws in those states are unlike elsewhere.
the parties they have, the way they dress and the permissive attitude.
i just heard from a sister that is from florida, that if you are not "spiritually strong" you will "fall out of the truth" down there.

The BEST way to "wake up" a JW
by Phizzy inwe have debated this over many years and in many threads, as all of us have family and/or former friends still in.
it seems that there is no "best" way to wake up a jw, it is as elusive as the "true" religion it seems.. but a comment made by poster "emery" on another thread stood out to me, he/she said :.
"what i have gathered is that most witnesses seem to be in it for emotional reasons.
