Are YOU a Thinker?
by alamb inthe recovering thinker.
hi, my name is bob, and i am a recovering thinker..... it started out innocently enough: i began thinking at meetings now and then to loosen up.
inevitably though, one thought led to another and soon i was more than just a theocratic thinker.

That was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!
I am a heavy thinker too! I would even take shots of thought during the meeting about the Crispy Fried Chicken I was going to stop and buy after leaving!
ROFL! -

Incest
by LoisLane looking for Superman inas a born in, one of my earliest thoughts has always been jehovah has an angel that writes down everything in a big book, all the good things that happen to me/others and everything bad that happens to me/others.
i faithfully and honestly believed that.. in march of this year i read c of c. by 5 am the next morning i was out.
24 hours before, a true, steadfast believer.

At what age do people 'wake up'?
by Splash ini was thinking about this question recently after being at the meeting when new pioneers were announced for the 2013 service year.. we have a dozen or so pioneers in the congregation, and most are in their 20's.
some absolutely love the things they are taught and can't wait to spread the good news.. others in the congregation are going through the motions, tired of hearing the same old same old but have no way to change things now.
then there are a couple like me.

Splash: Sophie, You must've hit 'snooze'

I think I started to wake up in my late 30s…took me 7 years to realize I did not want to live like that anymore and I was gradually feeling more at peace and happier about life.
But I have to admit, I NEVER thought I would leave!!!!
Oddly enough, my life is no different except that I am not a JW anymore. I am not dragging myself through the motions of the Truth. I don’t miss it.
edit: Now that I think of it, when I left in my late teens, it was for the same reason I am leaving now: I want to LIVE!
As many young people then, was I felt like the org too restrictive…and I am not referring to the immorality issue, because that was the furthest thing from my mind. I wanted to EXPERIENCE LIFE!
So I guess I woke up TWICE???? -

"Our Reader's Ask" November 2012 Public WT
by dontplaceliterature inhas anyone seen this?

*facepalm*
I can only imagine pulling out the article...written by WTBS and asking a JW why this doesn't apply to them! So hypocritical!
Oh no! You can't make sure of any of the teachings inside...you no longer need to think for yourself because those 8 guys wil do it for you...no independent study...no questions...god forbid you got a doubt...stamp that out!!! Wow!
Its amazing how clear things are when you stop drinking the "Kool-aide"!

Blues brother!!! I AGREE!!! There is nothing that says that!!! Ugh!
Thanks Glander!!! Will do!
Fernando: thanks! Now you KNOW! They are going to say that this does not apply to THEM!
Im still floored that you can't just walk away! Amazing!!!!
I read this today: "I said, "Wouldn't it be redundant to disfellowship me? After all, I left ten years ago of my own accord." He said, "But you can't leave. You can never leave us. We can expel you. But you, having been baptized into The Truth, are one of us until we say you're not.""
Its a quote from the sister who left Bethel in Knorr's day...she has since passed awesome writer...been reading a lot ...name escapes me! CEDARS! HELP!!!)
I read that and thought: ARGH!!! Jonestown! Do they even realize how crazy they are? If you walk away from the beliefs you are cut off? How about we just shake hands....say it did not work out...walk away! OH WAIT! That's just too normal!!!

Any born-ins have this attitude about converts?
by Nambo inso there was this great gang of us, from south london, manchester and wolverhampton, went to socialise with a group in fishguard in wales.. amongst the conversations one of the single sisters stated, "i could never marry anybody who used to be in the world".. i guess a lifetime of knocking on doors had given her the impression there couldnt possibly be a convert in her midst, never mind later alone with her in her mgb.. so whats with this, did you think we had rat scabies or were possesed by demons or something?.

I agree that "hotness" trumps any stigma of being either too inexperienced or visa versa. Pretty people have no trouble getting the opposite sex to date them.
This may be true outside the org, but inside the org, even beautiful women are passed over if the born or raised ins think the women are "damaged goods." The brothers would make it well known they wanted "tall, big boobed, small waisted, virginal, elders' daughters who were also pioneers." These fellows would turn their noses up at the most gorgeous sisters who had been in the world, divorced or were single mothers.
We've had threads here about beautiful sisters who married plain or ugly, boring brothers. This is partly why.
LOL! One of the reasons why I left the org as a teen was because I wanted to go into the entertainment/modeling/fashion industry! I would tell you guys who I was compared to in the modeling industry but that may blow my cover!
I came back in and looks and brains never mattered to the super spiritual guy... I was "damaged goods". Whatever...they all did me a favor! :P
