I am not making this up... My grandmother, an active JW had a boob job at the age of 68 in an effort to win the affections of a man who was studying at the time. She pulled strings, got him baptized in a hurry and is now happily married with perky little breasts. Oh, those spiritual priorities!!!

Do all Bethelite marriages end up happy?
by freddi ini just wanted to know if anyone out there knew the stats for bethelite marriages ending happily ever after.
whenever i would visit bethel, it seemed as though all the married couples were in it for life.
i know that marriage is supposed to be until death do you part but we all know that things do occur.

One of my former best friends married a Bethelite. They left Bethel and moved back to our hometown. Things quickly deteriorated, they had only been married a couple of months when Alice showed up on my partents doorstep, beaten. She had snuck out, her husband would not normally have allowed her out of the house, he was afraid she'd have an affair with any man she came in contact with. They divorced shortly after that, but she was so traumatized that she did not remarry for many years.
I have had other friends who have dated and/or married Bethelites who have found that thse men were not always able to adapt to life in the real world.

Help - I'm in Love

based on this i don't want to do anything to hurt her.
i am not a witness and though i would like to pursue her romantically my sense is if she were to accept my overtures it could ruin her life since her family is very involved in witnessing and close association with one such as me could lead to reprimands for her.. my question is this.

I have been in the same situation. I was an active JW when I met my non-JW husband. He was a customer in the health food store that I manage. I was in the throes of a rancorous divorce from my once JW ex who pretty much managed to destroy me emotionally and financially. Into my life waltzes this kind, beautiful man who loves me, JW or not. We kept things quiet for as long as we could, but the news got out that I had been seen with a "worldly" man. At this point all hell broke loose. I started getting daily phone calls from the Presiding Overseer. Those became daily visits, very morning at about 9 AM. (I think they thought that they would catch Gary there in his bathrobe...never happened.) My then best friend, a Witness, then decided to pop out for a surprise visit. She found Gary having dinner with my daughters and I. You would have thought I was a serial killer. The pressure from the elders kept increasing until they told me that I could no longer be a part of the congregation if I continued to see my now husband. Then without further ado or a letter from me, they disassociated me and made it plain to my friends and family that it was because I was a highly immoral individual. Wth the exception of my parents, none of my family will speak to me. I have lost total contact with all of the my childhood friends.Do I regret any of this? Hell, no. I would not want to relive the pain, but such a burden has been lifted from my shoulders. The biggest reward of all is that I am married to Gary(our first anniversary is next week), who is a most wonderful hsuband and father to my daughters.
Just be prepared, if you and this lovely lady pursue a relationship, that it may be at a great price to her. If you are as kind a man as you seem to be, you will be worth that price.

How to Leave WT and Intact
by JT inone of the most painful things i continue to see here on this forum as well as all the others is that many who want to leave wt simply don't know how to leave and remain "intact" as it were.. i recall talking with jw who "formally disassociated themselves back in the 70s and it was not till the 90s and the net did they finally feel free.
or many who jump up and write a letter off to mo larry and curly (congregation service committee).
while i feel there is absolutely nothing wrong with writing a letter for many it is a matter of.

How I wish that I could have "gone gently into that good night." Unfortunately I was too high profile. My mother is an "elderette" and the PO's right hand girl. I didn't even have the opportunity to write a letter or anything. I was just informed via telephone that I apparently did not wish to associate with the congregation any more. They informed me! No elder's meeting, no committees. The PO then announced at one of the next Thursday meetings that I DA'd myself. Don't be mistaken, no sour grapes here! They did me a big favor. But it hasn't been without cost. I have lost my relationship with many of my family memebers that I love dearly.

My Lonnng Story...

it's a story that's been told many, many times - i was pretty much raised as a jehovahs witness (my mom was baptized when i was 6 years old), and i simply followed along and accepted for years what i was being told.
going through school, i just learned to be different (which, in some ways, is a good thing... im hoping that will make it easier to break free).

by slipnslidemaster inin one of the threads i read today, they were talking about looking into your eyeballs to diagnose cancer and the like.
also selling herbs.. my comment and question is this: it seemed like in my congregation and the surrounding ones, alot of the sisters were into kineseology, reflexology, herbs, vitamins, color therapy, aroma therapy, etc.. alot of touchy feely hippie crap.
while i personally agree that there needs to be more synergy with eastern and western medicines, it would appear reading the boards that alot of witnesses are into this sort of stuff.. is this your experience?

larc, I beg your pardon,I had forgotten that the lovely Zazzu and I had discussed that a couple of months ago.
Here is something that does get my goat-- in my area it seems the local JWs are of the attitude that it's okay to let your health go to hell because you will be made all shiny and new in the New System. They ten to be grossly overweight, over drink and just generally avoid taking care of themselves. Does this attitude seem to show a lack of appreciation for the gift of life?

Oh, I very much agree, larc. I just meant that I try to achieve a balance and not go to far either way in terms of health care. In terms of natural or allopathic medicine, I try to take the wisdom from each culture and glean out the rest.
