Is it really a "black" thing? Personally, I'm tired of how blacks are portrayed in the media. The only time my 14 year old son sees African Americans on tv is either on COPS or some sporting event.
Why not point out the "black" General who took charge of the situation an probably saved a lot of lives while the "white" President let a situation go from bad to worse.
the higher education thread got me thinking about the thing i loathe, despise, hate with the intensity of a thousand suns about the wbts, namely, the loss of my childhood.
i remember when engaging in blistering arguements with my parents about being able to play sports or take up an instrument or dream of being an astronaut, or whatever thing the society frowned on that i wasn't allowed to do at the end i would always get the same final reply, "when you are 18 and out of the house you can do whatever you want.
i can go back and play pop warner football, or little league baseball, or play in the school band, etc?
Geez, I was just thinking about this last night as I watched my 14 year old son play in the homecoming football game. He had 4 sacks and ran in two touchdowns. My 11 year daughter was all dressed up in the school colors and wore one of her brother's old football jerseys. All night long she was running up and down the stands with all of her "worldly" friends scream the home team on. His team won 46 - 20. The atheletic / scholastic memories and opportunities both of them will have because I chose not to raise them as Jdubs will be worth the price I had to pay.
My JW mother once made a comment that I'm "trying to live my life through my kids." She just doesn't get it. It's not that at all. Simply put, I don't want my kids to miss out on what I was forced to miss out on. I remember being 10 or 11 years old, sitting in a tree, watching the little league games, wish I was allowed to play. I thought it was so cool that they got to wear uniforms like real basebal players. I remember being one of the best flag football players in jr. high but not being allowed to play organized, tackle football. I remember coaches and friends staring at me with puzzled looks on their faces as I tried to explain to them why I was want allowed to play high school football or any other sport. Probably the worst one was my brother getting A's in all his classes through high school and then deciding not to go to college. It's crazy. It's unforgiveable.

imo the true patriots are those who are willing to stand up and take the flak for saying "this isn't good enough, we demand better".

Simon's point about people all over the world having every right to criticise the US president, as they are very much affected by his policies/actions, tax payed or no, is a good one.
I have no problem at all with people being critical of the U.S., Bush, Ric, Cheney, etc....What I get tired of hearing is JUST the negative. So you think the war in Iraq was a stupid idea, ok, cool, no problem but what would YOU do? What is your solution to Iran? North Korea?
So many people here say that they are against war and thus have this need to bash Bush or the U.S. But when was the last time these same people wrote their own government about the trouble in Northern Ireland or Sudan?

IMO my impression is that you are anti-American (not that I care). I say this because whenever there is something negative if the news about the U.S., you are many times the first one to post something about it.
I believe others countries do certain things better then the U.S. but I do believe the U.S. is the best country in the world, just as I would expect others to feel that their respected countries are the best.

since gas costs so much, and people are mad, someone had an idea to get even with the garage stations who he thinks is screwing poeple with high gas prices.
i just saw this on the news on tv here in quebec.. he invites people to go and put only a few cents of gas in their car.
so just now on the news, i saw a man puting 6 cents of gas and he screwed his cap back on, and went inside the garage to pay...lol.
I'm not really sure that the avergare gas station is making a killing, unlike the gas companies themselves. If I owned a gas station I would post the price for gas alone and a seperate price for the gasoline taxes. I think people would be shocked if they knew how much of today's price is actual city, county, state and federal taxes.
