  Is Walmart right or wrong?

  here in quebec, walmart decided to close a walmart store because the 190 employees wanted to become unionized.

  walmart said that they weren't making money at that store, and that's why they are closing.

  we all know that the real reason why walmart wants to close is because the employees want to be unionized.. in this day and age, do you think that walmart is right, or the employees?.

  Walmart is wrong. I stopped shopping at Walmart because of the way they pay and treat employees.

  I stopped shopping there because of the way they treat their vendors.

  DA-ing Announcement in the Society's New Book

  on the 20th of march, introduces a change in the df and da announcements.

  announcements will read the same: "[name of person] is no longer one of jehovah's .

  I like the question of what it means that so-and-so is no longer a Witness.

  Back in the day, that's the way I remembered the announcement..that either "so & so was Df'd" or "so & so was no longer a JW." I found it weird that we would annouce that they were no longer a member of the congregation. I always wondered if this was done by the Society in order to distance themselves from being sued.

  "[Name of person] is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses."

  They've been saying that for years about people who are inactive, or miss a lot of meetings. I think they'll use this as a means of getting rid of people they don't like.

  I was told when they anounced my Da'ing, that's how they stated it. This was some 5 years ago. As a matter of fact, prior to that when I was an elder and it was my turn to make the "special" anoucement about someone being I don't believe I ever used the words "disfellowshipped" or "disassociated" but rather was instructed to state that "so and so no longer a member of the (fill in the blank) congregation." I recall the PO being very specific on how I was to make the announcement. Again that was some 6 or 7 years ago. Maybe the Society is just making sure all congregations are following procedure. Gag! Almost makes me choke saying that.

  Also, CRR, you are correct that Bush didn't take office until 1-20-01...but the fact remains that he STILL has a Negative Job creation record. I don't care how you slice it...he's the only president since Herbert Hoover to not creat a single job in his first term. The numbers just don't lie.

  Please explain to me what exactly Clinton did that created jobs and what Bush has / has not done to create jobs?

  Bush takes office while there's a recession and then 911 happens yet we still have 3 - 4 % growth of the economy? I find that pretty amazing, esp. considering how badly much of Europe and Japan are doing.

  It isn't Bush who's created this economy, it's the Wal-Marts and mega-corporations and we who support them (either by buying the products they sell or being stockholders that demand more profits). I'm no Allen Greenspan but I'll give you a personal example. I own a small, engineering and manfacturing business. Need a new product designed an manufactured?, I'm your man. Anyway, one of my biggest clients sells house hold products to Wal-Mart. You as a customer want lower prices, Wal-Mart puts pressure on my client for lower cost (no matter what the cost) and he puts pressure on me. I hear it all the time from them "What do you mean you can't cut your costs by 30%? I can get that same machine built in China for much less....blah blah blah." Well, a Chinese toolmaker makes oh, about a dollar a day. My guys make anywhere from $18.00 to $25.00 an hour plus benefits. Nothing steller but a decent living. Now multiply this problem nationwide and you see the problem. Good paying, manufacturing jobs are leaving the U.S. faster then you can blink. So when I go out of business and my toolmaker who makes $22.00 an hour is out of a job, what will he need to do? Since there aren't any manufacturing jobs left, he's going to have to work during the day at Wal-Mart making $8.00 an hour and at night at some trucking firm (making $8.00 an hour) unloading Chinese made goods. He'll then spend his money at Wal-Mart because it will be the cheapest place to shop and that's all he can afford to buy...cheap Chinese made goods. The irony kills me.

  Is it legal for the WT to Disassociate someone?

  since it is well defined that when the wt kicks you out you are disfellowshipped - there action.

  and that when you want to leave you disassociate - your action.

  how is it that the wt can da you?

  IMO - from the WT's point of view, I would think they would want the elders to conclude that an individual Da'd themselves instead of Df'ing as much as possible. This way, if the individual decided to sue the WT, the Society could make the argument that the person left the WT not that they were kicked out. If someone is Da'd for voting or joining the YMCA, a jury will believe it's a stupid rule but they will realize that a JW who does either is breaking the WT rules and the WT has the right to kickout any who break their rules. On the other hand, it was interesting to see the court battle between the Boy Scouts and it's fight to keep out gay scout leaders.

  Personally, I'd be scared if a jury / court can punish a private orginzation for enforcing it's own rules.

  Why does free will always have to lead to men doing really bad & stupid things? And why would God allow this? At best, God is very irresponsible.

  Just because my 13 year old son wants to build a home made cannon doesn't mean I'd let him. I guess I have more brains then God does.

  DA'ing coming up, to speak out now or not?

  hi there, i know its up to me in the end, but just wondering, what would most of you do?

  my da'ing could be tonight, should i take the opportunity (before they can no longer speak to me ) to tell a few jw's that i am being da'd for telling the truth, or not to bother.

  does it matter anyway.

  Looking back, the one thing I wish I would have done before being Da'd was write all my JW "friends" a letter explaining why I was leaving. It probably would have fallen on deaf ears but it would have been satisfying to know that they knew thr truth, not some rumor. Plus, if in the future they desire to leave, I could have left the door open. I believe a lot a JWs want to leave but have no one on the outside to talk to. Probably most in my former congregation think that I want nothing to do with them. It's their religion, not them personally.
