What are the fruits that we are supposed to recognize?

i posted most of this on another thread but i want this to stand alone so i can refer back to it in the future.

one of our resident apologists has given her response on this thread.

you can judge the relative worth of her response for yourself.. "by their fruit you will recognize them.

"By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."-John 13:35 The most important identifying factors for "true" religion hinge on how persons follow these commands. Individual "imperfection" is irrelevant. Choice in doctrines is secondary, to be considered only after first determining whether the religion follows the law of love.

While love is a identifying mark, I would think that TRUTH itself is also a mark. Love itself proves nothing, as there are plenty of non-Christian religions that teach the concept of "perfect" love. As the Lord said in John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." So Truth sanctifies us, it determines who we are and what we are. So knowledge of the Truth is important. ALthough not the perverted knowledge that the JW are fed, as their Truth is not stagnant, it's ever changing and how can one ever learn about God and Christ, if they keep changing what God and Christ said and meant?

i'm new and have posted something along these lines recently on another thread, but i'm wondering, do marriages between non-jws and jws work?

by "work" i mean can they be loving and happy?

and what about kids?

Beard stories. Nothing but beards.

i've done a jwn search on beards and had some great reads.. i've learned the history of russell vs. rutherford and knorr and the hippies.. here's what i'd like to hear about.. either you or someone you know who grew a beard and the fallout because of it.. for me, i'd love to hear about the squeaky clean elder who decided to grow a beard and got removed because of it.. katie kitten, from england, on another thread told the story of her dad, the squeaky clean elder who grew a beard in the 70's and got away with it.. i don't think that would happen in california 2009.. anyway, what are your beard stories?.

i'm all ears.

I knew a brother who had a skin condition and couldn't shave. and as long as he kept it nice and cropped, there was no problem with it as far as the congregation was concerned. He did serve as an elder.

On another occassion, we have a visiting speaker one day who showed up at one Sunday, he was dressed like "Huggy bear" from the old Starsky and Hutch" show, for all you youngste out there, just picture an old time pimp. He had a beard disguised as sideburns. He introduced himself to the P.O. "Hi, I'm brother so-snd-so, I'll be speaking today". The P.O. took one look at him and said "Oh no you're not" and sent the brother on his way. The P.O. gave the talk instead.

I knew a white bethelite brother who had aspirationss of being a travelling overseer. He was moving up fast in bethel and had made friends with some of the GB, this was before the new younger guard they have now.

Anyways, he married a black full time pioneer sister, and that was the end of his career. One of the GB members took him aside and told him "you can't do this, this is not good for your advancement." He married her anywasy and like a prophecy come true his career at bethel was over. They left bethel and served in a local congregation.

Are JW's the only ones imprisoned for their beliefs?

i'm sorry to gadget, who brought up a similar topic & it reminded me of something i was told 2 days ago.

is it true that jw's are the majority of people who are currently imprisoned for their beliefs?

can you give me examples if this is or is not the case?

Now the reason why the JW's get persecuted, is because they have a martyr complex. They go around making a nusiance (sp?) of themselves. They want to be noticed, "look at us". Funny they want people to know who they are and what they do. Something newsworthy geets published, mentioning that they JW's, is nice. But when someone rapes a child, embezzles money, murders, and it gets mentioned that they are JW's. The JW's cry "why do they have to mention he is a JW, what does that have to do with what he did?" Well, I can ask the samething, why does the paper have to mention that the man who saved a life using CPR was a JW, what does that have to do with anything? Can't have it both ways.
