Fun with Gog and/of Magog!! What's really going on here???

the topic of gog and magog, or gog of magog is pretty hot right now.

gog....so hot right now...gog.... .

as has been brought out by many, no one seems to know who gog is.

DATA-DOG If anyone finds some older information on Gog, it would be interesting to read it. We could make a timeline of the WTBTS's "truth" about Gog.

WT 1932 June 15 p. 179 "GOG AND MAGOG"
Para 4 "A dogmatic statement as to what Gog and the land of Magog represent would hardly be proper."
"Based upon the certain truths that are revealed by the Scriptures the following conclusion as to the meaning of Gog and Magog is here set forth, to wit: Gog is one of the princes in Satan's organization, invisible, of course, to human eyes, with a possibility of the power to materialize in human form."

Para 6 "In Revelation 20: 7, 8 the distinction is made between Satan and Gog and Magog, which shows that the particular prophecy of Ezekiel, chapters thirty-eight and thirty-nine, is not directly applicable to Satan, but that it does specifically apply to one of Satan's chiefs, and those gathered under him in a division of Satan's organization."

Para 7 "The prophecy therefore seems to relate to the satanic organization of the earth, the chief part of which is Big Business, and also to other parts of that organization under the supervision of Gog, the prince of the Devil's organization"

Para 11 "since Gog is called "the chief prince" of Rosh, it is reasonable that Gog is the one that leads the fight at Armageddon, while Satan as the general sits in the rear and directs it"

So the WT starts by saying "we can't say for sure", but the rest of the article is pretty certain, with Question 12 asking "How do Revelation 11: 12-14 and Ezekiel 38: 15 further confirm the identity of Gog and of the chief instrument in his visible army?'"

The tale of Angelo and Dan! Have you heard this one??

long story, short; angelo was bad, he went to prison.

dan was bad, he went to prison too.

dan became a dub and studied with angelo.

Reminds me of a story of someone called "Peter" who was a criminal.
In a five year period he killed 13 women, attempted to kill 7 more and was given 20 life sentences when he was finally caught.

In prison he was repeatedly attacked by other inmates, even losing an eye in one stabbing incident.

Eventually he gets to hear of the Truth, has a Bible study and finally becomes a baptised brother.
Due to failing health he may not have long left, but this account proves the verse "that is what some of you were".

At least the Society have another one they can proudly add to their yearly statistics - the Yorkshire Ripper.

40,000 new kingdom halls needed

not sure where to post this, but the other day my jw mom says to me, 'the number is increasing they announced that we need 40,000 new kingdom halls'.

ok, who else has heard this, and how should i respond, other than to say well your cong is smaller now than it was 15 years ago..... where your growth?.

I didn't have a figure so estimated 20%. Are you aware of a more accurate number from somewhere?

On a side note I saw:

So if they were building 2,000 each year on average between 2000 and 2010, I wonder how many they are currently building each year. Maybe no more than in previous years.

According to the 2014 Yearbook there are 114,000 congregations worldwide.
There are fewer K.Halls than this because many congregations share a K.Hall.

If we assume 20% share a hall that leaves us with 91,000 kingdom halls worldwide

If a hall needs some remedial work every six or seven years this gives you 14,000 kingdom hall projects every year.

All this maintenance work and no mention of any increase.

Matthew 1:17 & 42 Generations

if we are to look at matthew 1:17, looks like there were 42 generations from abraham to jesus.. if we take 1948 bce (abraham's birth) and we take it to jesus baptisim (29 ce) we get to 1,977 years.. so lets divide 1977 years by 42 (the amount of generations), we get to around 47 years for one generation.. 1 generation = 47 years.. 1 generation + an overlapping generation (1 generation more) = 94 years.. this is all in the first chapter of the new testament..... comments welcome.....

The overlap definition from the WT is in two parts:
1. Those who were baptised and anointed, and who's lives intersected with the 1914 date.
2. Those who were baptised and anointed, and who's lives intersected with the earlier group.

If you were born in the 1830's, baptised and anointed, and lived to see 1914 (say, 80ish years old) you are in the first group.
If you were born in 1890's, baptised and anointed before 1914 and lived to see the 1970's (80ish years old) you are in the first group.

Therefore the first group extends from the 1830's to the 1970's - 140 years.
This is only the first half of the 'overlap'.

If you were born in the 1950's, baptised and anointed before all of group one died out in the 1970's and lived to see the 2030's (80ish years old), you are one of the overlappers.

Therefore the entire overlapping generation potentially extends from the 1830's to the 2030's - 200 years.
A 200 year generation.
Let's see what Jesus was recorded as saying:
Matthew 24:34 "Truly I say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen."

So the quotes from various scriptures enlarging on 'generation' are not really to do with assigning a specific amount of time, but simply show the absurdity of claiming three overlapping life spans totalling 200 years is what Jesus 'evidently meant'.

Does anyone have the Awake! January 1 1989? - 20th Century Quote

january 1 1989 contains the quote on page 12 "he was laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.

" this was later changed in the bound volume and on the cd library to "in our day.".

The most blatant was when everyone at the book study groups were given a sheet of 'new light' to cut out and stick into their Revelation books.

Since then it has been done in a much less public way. This underhandedness extends to the new website where the literature is available from 2000 only, and is subject to secret revisionism at any time.

10 february 2015. while charles manson is busy avoiding being displayed in a glass coffin by his now ex-fiancee, peter sutcliffe is managing his own mortality within the confines of broadmoor hospital.. .

the yorkshire ripper apparently met with funeral directors to plan his own send-off.. sutcliffe, 68, contacted holmes and family funeral directors, whose office is three miles away from the high security hospital in berkshire.. he apparently wishes for the ceremony to be performed in line with his jehovahs witness beliefs.. sutcliffe was handed 20 life sentences for brutally murdering 13 women in the north of england between 1975 and 1980, and attempting to murder seven others.. police believed his killing spree started after he was conned out of money by a prostitute and her pimp.. however, sutcliffe later claimed the voice of god had commanded him to undertake the killings.. the independent (lots of photos of broadmoor psychiatric prison).

The Bible gives a few indications about the length of a generation.
Unsurprisingly none of them are 200 years long (which is the length of the current teaching of 'generation')

35 years: (Job 42:16, 17) "And Job continued living after this a hundred and forty years and came to see his sons and his grandsons—four generations.

37 years: Jerusalem was destroyed about 37 years later when Jesus said "this generation will by no means pass away"

38 years: Deut 2:14 - And the days that we walked from Ka′desh-bar′ne·a until we crossed the torrent valley of Ze′red were thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war had come to their end.

(Mt 1:17) "All the generations, then, from Abraham until David were fourteen generations, and from David until the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon until the Christ fourteen generations":

- Abraham to David : 2018BCE -> 1107BCE / 14 generations = 65 years
- David to deportation : 1107BCE -> 607BCE / 14 generations = 35 years
- Deportation to Christ : 607BCE -> 29CE / 14 generations = 45 years
