The unity is especially enjoyable when you start questioning and having your own opinions about some matters. The unity is only maintained by means of tight control and kicking anyone out who may pose a threat to it, whether intended or not. Forced conformity it is! Some have to pay dearly for it.

There is something that has always bothered me...
by braincleaned init always bothers me that the society boasts unity, as jehovah's witnesses don't have other branches and groups stemming from them, like the amish for example.
the wts is justified to brag unity of belief; to the point where the same program is taught in the whole world.. i blame those who leave and yet continue to believe in jehovah and jesus (i'm an atheist).
it seems a schism is above those who dissent from the org.

starting fresh
by rather be in hades inwhen you left, did you feel the need to start your life over?
how did you go about reconciling who you were with how you feel now?.
better yet, for those born/raised in, how did that transition affect you and are you ok with who you used to be?.

There's no reason for shame. Think about all the illusions other people hold on to. I think every single person alive has some kind of illusion they accept and never confront. Many are afraid of looking truths in the eyes, truths about themselves, or their circumstances or their spouse or something else. It's human nature. Sure, we were in a cult, but that doesn't mean we were weak minded. Staying in the cult despite what we've come to know would mean we are weak minded.
It's a whole other story for born ins. We were molded to accept it all from childhood on. We saw some good things and concluded it's all good, it's all true. Being conditioned doesn't mean one is weak minded. We didn't know anything else and the truth appeals to feelings of superiority, we thought we knew it all while all those poor worldly people had no clue. We thought we knew the all the secrets.
A challenge for me is figuring out who I really am. I have no clue right now, also don't know who I can be and want to become. What's also hard is getting rid of that "never going to die" idea and living a responsible life.

LostGeneration has an excellent point. JWs are controled by fear, they don't even know it. Now that I'm fading I see how much fear has been "inculcated" into me. There are some Witnesses who genuinely care and have love, who will be good friends, but many are the out of sight out of mind type. You only exist in their world if you're regularly at meetings and in service. They tend to stay away from "weak" ones. It's quite the opposite of what they teach, but they can easily justify these things. The foremost friendship and loyalty belongs to the Organization. Everything else is conditional.

After a couple of days pondering the "new light" FDS change . . .
by leaving_quietly inso, i've had a chance to ponder this "new light" of the change of definition of fds now for a couple of days.
the initial reaction was of astonishment, and just plain anger, and i can see that i'm not alone in that.
however (assuming matt 24:45-47 is prophetic, parable or not):.

Why worry about it ourselves? They have to answer for their actions. We do not. (This statement, of course, is for those who still believe in God and Christ... those who don't, just ignore.)
Sure, they'll be held accountable. Why worry about it? Look at the toll their "food" is taking. It's unhealthy, unbalanced and leads to lots of heartache. Your attitude parallels the "wait on Jehovah" attitude. We have a responsibility to do something about evil if we have the chance. Just tolerating it and looking the other way won't help anyone and quite frankly, I find it selfish. We can't change the world, and we can't change the Org, but we can at least speak up and try to do something whenever we have the chance. I think it's our responsibility. So we may have to answer for the lack of our actions if we choose to do nothing.
Finally, we're all reacting from peoples' notes. They write what they hear, or think they hear. None of this is printed in black and white for all of us to clearly see, analyze and reason on. So, I think it's just prudent to wait and see what they say on the printed page. Then, and only then, does it become an official teaching.
You're right, it still is likely that it's true. It's the culmination of a developement that has been taking place over the past years.

The reason for the New Light on the FDS
by Badfish innew websites have been popping up such as anointedjw.org in which witnesses who believe they are anointed are spreading the word that anyone can become anointed and go to heaven.. under the previous teaching that all anointed are part of the fds, then these sites would have much more credit because, after all, they are anointed (and therefore part of the fds).. there are copies of numerous letters to the society posted on anointedjw.org, so the society is obviously well aware.. the easiest way for the society to discredit these sites and thus discourage their message is to strip them of their fds status.
now, the fds is only the governing body, not the rest of the anointed..

You may be right. If so it wasn't a very smart move, Anointedjw have already received e-mails about this rumored change. Those with a little awareness might actually be shaken up by this. It almost looks like the GB are trying hard to get more people to leave, with this change and the latest BOE letter.

You know, I saw a documentary a while ago about our concepts of time, it was explained that time is not as easily definable as we think. And that it is not linear, it doesn't "stream" forward as we are accustomed to think. At least that's what scientists say.

Thanks Mrs Cedars. And thanks Cedars for writing another interesting article. Sometimes I get the feeling that the GB folks are quickly digging their own "graves". This and the latest BOE letter make them even more open to attack.
@Soft+Gentle: I wouldn't get my hopes up. Sorry to say this, but look at the many things that are already openly wrong, who's bothered with it? Even if people see things going wrong, they'll "wait on Jehovah" and do nothing. They don't see that they have responsibility, they just wait and shut their eyes. It's the same with my family, unfortunately. They won't be phased with this latest change. Many have a "I don't care, I just hope the end comes soon" attitude, it's what they focus on. Doctrinal questions and things that don't add up are of secondary importance.

Questions on new understanding (FDS - GB)
by Weana insome questions arise with the new understanding:.
was there a slave class between the 1st century and the 20th century?.
in w march 1, 2004, it was stated, that the slave could not be a single man, because "acording to jesus words" the slave had started his work in 1st century and would still be in action in 20th century.. was the slave in action in 1914?

Can't remember who posted that yesterday. The comparison to a Con is very fitting. They progressively lure you in and BAM.
